1 SPANISH YEAR: Nursery (EYFS) Saludos- learning how to greet people in Spanish and say what we are called. Tapas- learning about some Spanish tapas and tasting some too! Los números- learning the numbers 1-10 and age. Instrucciones- learning how to follow classroom instructions in Spanish. El cuerpo- learning how to say different parts of the body. Los colores- learning several colours in Spanish El tiempo- learning how to say what the weather is like. El verano- learning how to say what you might do on a summer holiday. La navidad- learning about how Christmas is celebrated in Spain.
2 SPANISH YEAR: Reception (EYFS) Me presento forming and answering simple questions in Spanish and holding an interview with a favourite toy. Las festivals learning about a variety of Spanish festivals. La navidad- learning about Christmas traditions in Spain. Los sentidos- learning how to say how something smells, feels and tastes in Spanish. Also learning about the senses of sight and hearing. Perú- learning about the Spanish speaking country of Peru and the animals that live in the rainforest there. La oruga muy hambrienta- learning about the story of the hungry caterpillar. This includes learning days of the week, colours and some food items.
3 SPANISH YEAR: 1 (KS1) Saludos- revising how to greet people in Spanish and say what we are called. Los colores learning the colours in Spanish. La familia- learning how to say who is in our family. Carneval- learning about the Spanish festival of Carnival, celebrated at this time of year. Colombia- Learning all about this Spanish speaking country, including the artist Botero, many of the countries traditions and the story of Biblioburro. El arte Español- looking at the work of some Spanish artists, particularly Miró. Los números- learning how to count in Spanish up to 20. La edad- learning how to say how old we are.
4 SPANISH YEAR: 2 (KS1) Los sonidos- learning about the sounds of Spanish to be able to read new words and learn to spell them. Los números- recap of numbers Juguetes- learning how to say what toys we like and dislike. La navidad- writing a letter to Papa Noel. Guatemala- learning about the culture of this Spanish speaking country, particularly the tradition of worry dolls. En mi mochila- learning to say what items you have or don t have in your school bag. Las fallas- learning about the Spanish fire festival. Las formas- learning about shapes and describing them using colours. Gaudí- learning about the Spanish architect Antoní Gaudí Mis cositas- using bilingual dictionaries to talk about our favourite things.
5 SPANISH YEAR: 3 (KS2) Los monstruos learning different body parts and then describing monsters. Las descripciones learning how to describe someone. El tiempo- learning to say what the weather is like and give a forecast. México- learning about this Spanish speaking country, particularly the tradition of The day of the dead. Las fechas- learning how to say what the date is and the date of important occasions. La tomatina- learning about the Spanish tomato festival. La Navidad- Christmas Los cumpleaños- recapping how to form the date and learning how to say when our birthdays are. La ropa- learning to say what clothes you would wear to a birthday party.
6 SPANISH YEAR: 4 (KS2) Los sonidos- learning the alphabet in Spanish and revising the sounds of Spanish to help learn new words and their spelling. En el pueblo learning how to say what is in your town, how to get there and when different places are open. En la estación de trenes learning about travelling around Spain by train, buying tickets and making sure you catch your train on time! En el centro learning about different shops and what you can buy there Don Quijote- learning about the famous Spaniard of Don Quijote de la Mancha. En el zoo- learning how to talk about different animals and their characteristics, including the noises they make. San Fermin- Learning about the Spanish festival of bull running in Pamplona.
7 SPANISH YEAR: 5 (KS2) Introducciones- recapping the basics of sounds, numbers, dates, age, birthdays. En la clase- learning how to say what we have/don t have/need in the classroom. El deporte- learning how to say which sports you like and dislike and giving reasons why. La rutina diaria recap telling the time and talk about your daily rutine. En el colegio- learning how to talk about the lessons you like/dislike at school and being able to describe your school. Haciendo planes- learning how to discuss what you are doing in your free time and how to arrange to meet friends.
8 SPANISH YEAR: 6 (KS2) La comida- learning how to order different foods and drinks in a bar. De tapas- learning about Spanish foods and creating a tapas bar menu. De compras- learning vocabulary needed to shop for different gifts for Christmas. La ropa- learning how to say and describe clothes (in particular those of Spanish designer Agata Ruiz de la Prada) and create a catalogue to use in a role play set in a clothes shop. Las vacaciones- Learning about the Camino de Santiago and talking about making travel arrangements in Spain Mi casa learning to be able to describe your house and say what furniture is in each room. Las tareas domésticas saying what chores you do to help out at home.
9 SPANISH YEAR: 7 (KS3) Todo sobre mí- learning how to give basic details about yourself in Spanish including name, age, family members and pets. Descripciones- learning how to describe yourself and others, both physical descriptions and personalities. El tiempo libre- learning how to discuss what you do in your free time and make plans according to the weather. El instituto- learning how to tell the time and say the subjects you study to be able to describe your school timetable. La salud- learning to describe how you feel and how to ask for remedies if you feel unwell. Festivales- learning about the most common festivals in Spain and completing a project on one of them.
10 SPANISH YEAR: 8 (KS3) Dónde vivo- learning how to describe the area where you live and what your house is like. La rutina- learning how to describe your daily routine and describing the chores you do to help at home. Una vida sana- learning about what makes a healthy lifestyle and giving advice. Un viaje por Méjico learning about traditions and culture of Mexico. De vacaciones- learning how to talk about holidays past and present, including describing different accommodation and any problems experienced whilst on holiday. El medio ambiente- learning how to describe certain environmental issues and what you do and will do in the future to protect the environment. La música- learning about different musical styles and instruments from the Spanish speaking world.
