DCF Certificate License Number- CO1ES North 12 th Ave., Pensacola, Florida / Allison Sanchez, Director of Preschool Information Packet Dear Prospective parent, We are so glad you are considering St. Christopher s Children s center to meet your child s educational and developmental needs. SCCC has exceptional teachers and a staff well qualified and certified to teach your children. Several of our teachers have been recipients of the Appleseeds Award representing the best teachers in Escambia County. Our mission is to nurture children socially, intellectually, physically and spiritually in order that they may be prepared for their next school environment. Children at SCCC learn in one-on-one, small group and large group settings. Our preschool is equipped with up to date learning materials, toys and playground equipment. Daily, children work on listening, personal and social development, language and literacy, thinking, and math skills through guided play, group time, and social interaction. Activities include language arts, math, science, art, large motor (outside), dramatic play, blocks, and music. We would love to talk with you and answer any questions you might have about our preschool. Please call our Director Allison Sanchez at for further information, enrollment assistance or to schedule a visit. We look forward to sharing your child s early education with your family.
Tuition Rates A non- refundable $125 fall registration fee for each child is due annually during early registration. Registration after January will be adjusted to $62.50 for the remainder of that academic year. Summer registration fee is $25 per child. A $50 supply fee for each child is due annually on September 1st each year. Tuition is due the first of each month. Checks can be made to SCCC please include your child s name on the memo line. A receipt will be given for all payments. The center does not send a monthly statement; therefore it is the parent s responsibility to make the payment on time each month. A grace period of five days is extended each month. Payments made after the 5th of each month are subject to a $30 late fee. Families with more than one child attending SCCC will be given a 10% discount off the oldest child s tuition each month. No other long term discounts will be offered. Tuition will be the same every month regardless of the number of actual days in session. The tuition prices are set by dividing the operational expenses for the Center by 12 months and broken into monthly increments for your payment convenience. Tuition is never prorated for absences or holidays.
Enrollment Information Enrollment is open to all children one, two, three or four years of age. Birthdates and space availability are the determining factor as to which class the child is place. Our program begins with a younger One s room, where your child must be one years old to be eligible. Your child must be of age on or before September 1st of the school year to be eligible for any of the other classroom programs. This standard progresses the child along with the Escambia County School system. The Center does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, creed, national origin or disability. The first day of school all children must have on file in the director s office the following up to date, completed forms: Department of Children and Families Application for Enrollment DH 680 Florida Certificate of Immunization Form provide a new form when additional immunizations are received D3040 School Entry Health Exam valid for 2 years Completed SCCC enrollment packet (which includes, SCCC enrollment; Signed statement acknowledging receipt of Know Your Child Care Facility brochure CF/PI ; Signed Statement acknowledging receipt of Influenza Information (signed annually); authorization for food activity/ Permission form; discipline policy; and receipt of parent/student handbook (signed annually) Any child not in compliance after 30 days will not be able to return to the Center until the completed records are presented to the center. Compliance is mandated by the State. During the school year, our VPK and our Three Year old Class began using the state s new Gold Teaching Strategies. All four year olds (VPK) state wide began this program, and our three year olds are in the pilot program for their age group. The strategies are a combination of 36+ observations performed by trained teachers three times a year using not only observation, but also video and photo media. This (along with ASQ s) is used to assure your child is on his or her learning level in accordance with Florida State Standards. Because we are involved in these observations (the first ones being in October) children are only moved up to the next class at the beginning of the school year, or during the summer session. Supply List Materials for the classroom are purchased with the yearly $50 supply fee paid by the parents. Each child will be provided with all the instructional materials and supplies necessary for the school year. Parents need to provide the following: All Age Groups: 1 extra set of clothing (appropriate for the season) in case of spills or accidents, including underwear and socks & shoes One Year Old Children (NO Bottles) Packs of diapers and wipes as needed Sippy cup or cup with lid Two Year Old Children (NO Pacifiers) Packs of diaper/pull-ups and wipes as needed 3 pairs of training pants or underwear daily
Three Year Old Children Extra underpants Four Year Old Children (no sippy cups) Full Time Children label all items with child s name 1 thick nap mat and small blanket for nap time full size pillows and blankets do not fit in our storage spaces and are not acceptable 2 snacks & Lunch Calendar SCCC operates during the traditional school year mostly observing the Escambia County School District s calendar (we are closed for certain teacher planning days). However, we do offer a summer program in June and July. The Center is traditionally closed the first two weeks in August and two weeks at Christmas. The actual start date for the School year is not available at this time. Attendance Being on time to school is essential. Pre-school begins at 9 a.m. Students who are late miss valuable class time. Please make every effort to get your child to school on time. Regular attendance is important for your child s success and progress. Please avoid unnecessary absences. Specifically regarding Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK), the school year program consists of 540 hours of instructional time. St. Christopher s Children s Center s hours for VPK are 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday through Friday. VPK students are required to be present 80% of the year, with absences allowed up to 20% for the entire year. Monthly Newsletter Each month the classroom teacher will send home a newsletter and calendar to keep you up to date on classroom events and important dates to remember. They will also include information about what your child will be learning, theme, color shape, number, etc, so you can reinforce the concepts at home. Also, monthly information is posted outside your child s classroom and outside the Director s office. Daily Schedule Although your child s schedule varies somewhat day to day, a typical day s activities are below. Specific activities vary based on age appropriateness; all are posted weekly in each room. Activity Time: Activities specific to the weekly theme are presented along with basic activities such as puzzles, table manipulatives, dramatic play, blocks, etc. Group/Circle Time: Group times are child-centered participative sessions. The planned group activities include reading, music, movement, finger plays, and discussion, dramatization, games, and experience stories. Outdoor Time: The playground is an extension of the classroom. Children can participate in an activity of their own choosing. Inclement weather, special events or celebrations will occasionally affect the scheduling of outdoor time. Snacks and Meal Time: Staff sits with children while they are eating, encouraging and participating in quiet conversation. Rest Time: Full time children are given the opportunity to nap or rest each day.
DISCIPLINE POLICY Discipline is the ongoing process of helping children to develop inner controls and assume responsibility for their own actions. We accomplish this by setting, explaining and consistently enforcing clear and understandable rules, limits and consequences prior to and as part of any disciplinary action. Appropriate behavior is taught when children are NOT in a stressful situation. Then children can learn by role-playing acceptable alternatives to hitting, screaming, biting, scratching, etc. These lessons are given individually, at group time and throughout the year as needed. Whenever possible, children are allowed to experience the logical consequences of their actions. For example, when you throw a puzzle, you pick it up and find other work that can be handled more appropriately. As much as possible, teachers will use firm, positive statements or redirection of behavior. If necessary to help a child gain control, the teacher may remove him or her from the activity or group for a time not to exceed one minute per year of age. Children will have a reasonable opportunity to resolve their own conflicts, and to have input in adult resolving of conflicts. If a child s behavior (for example: temper tantrum) is disruptive to the classroom, the child will be taken out of the classroom until they calm down and if necessary, the parents will be notified to pick up the child. Parents will be notified of these situations either by phone call and/or incident report. Under no circumstances will children be punished for toilet accidents or accidental spills. Although disciple problems of children in preschool rarely warrant it, St. Christopher s Children s Center reserves the right to exclude from the program any child whose behavior seriously disrupts the program or is a danger to themselves or to others. When a child has a pattern of unacceptable behavior, teachers are required to document the behavior, and send a progress report home to the parents. After the second progress report, a meeting with parents will take place. If necessary, the meeting may include the Director. The only exception is extreme biting; more information is available in the parent/student handbook. If, in spite of all best efforts, the teachers/director determines that the situation has not shown enough improvement, enrollment will be terminated. According for Florida Administrative Code Child Care Chapter 65C (8)(b)regarding Child Discipline: all child care personnel must comply with the facility s written disciplinary policy. Such policies shall include standards that prohibit children from being subjected to discipline which is severe, humiliating, frightening, or associated with food, rest, or toileting. Spanking or any other form of physical punishment is prohibited by all child care personnel.
