1 Department of Horticulture Crop Science Principles of Plant Production Horticultural crops including classification, structure, growth development, reproduction, horticultural environment,horticultural technology, propagation, mineral nutrition, training pruning, growth regulation, horticultural production systems Horticulture, Floriculture Forestry This course deals with importance of fruit tree growing, classification of fruit tree crops, orchard establishment ( site selection, rootstocks, cultivars, planting systems, frost protection), flowering, fruit set, fruit drop fruit growth maturation, cultural practices (pruning training systems, fruit thinning, fertilizer application, irrigation, pest control), harvesting hling, use of plant growth regulators Floriculture Production maintenance of major secondary cut flowers, flowering foliage pot plants, bulbous plants, bedding plants, hanging baskets, trees, shrubs, hedges, other ornamentals, turf grass establishment maintenance Cut Flowers Production Forestry Science Introduction, influences of forestry science, dendrology forest trees classification. Forest ecology, ecological factors their influences on forest growth development. Afforestation Forest management. Role of forestry in sustainable development. Agro-forestry systems. Windbreak shelter belt plantings. Forest protection, measurement harvesting. Forests afforestation in Jordan. 1

2 Woody Plant Materials This module is designed to cover the soft lscape elements of woody materials. Vegetables Principles of production transplants production industry. Vegetable crops: Importance, classification, proper environmental conditions suitable for their growth, different cultural practices for production, flowering, fruiting, maturity, harvesting storage. Field Crops Theoretical practical information related to production of some cultivated plants common wild species in the local habitat, included also geographical distribution of medicinal aromatic plants related to environment its various factors, cultural practices required for economic production of these plants. Taxonomy, botanical classification, habitat, active constituents, plant parts used Herbaceous Ornamental Plants This course focuses on the use of herbaceous plants as an important design element. Topics include plant characteristics, cultural requirements, environmental factors, Vines Ground Cover This module emphasizes on identification, propagation, use of ground covers vines. Turf grass establishment maintenance will be covered. 2

3 Indoor Plants This module will cover the identification, cultural requirements growth habits of ornamental foliage flowering plants for indoor use. Genetics, Physiology Propagation Crop Physiology Control of crop physiological processes in relation to genetic, enzymatic, hormonal phytochrome systems. Crop water status, nutrition energy metabolism in relation to yield. Photosynthesis, transport, accumulation of photosynthesis. Use of plant growth regulators in agriculture. Crop growth development in relation to environment. Stresses their effects on crop growth, adaptations, acclimatization Plant Propagation General aspects of propagation, biology of propagation, environmental factors, principles of seed selection, techniques of propagation, vegetative propagation; selection management of clones, biology techniques of propagation by cuttings, grafting, budding, layering its natural modifications, specialized stems roots; principles of tissue culture, biotechnology micro propagation. Farm Machinery Introduction ;Simple machines their function; Methods for power transmission; Hydraulic system; Types of Farm Tractors their uses; Soil preparation equipment for planting crops; Spraying fertilizing equipment; Harvesting equipment for seed feed crops; Field capacity of a farm machine conditions for its selection. 3

4 (6) Design Principles of Lscape This module will cover an introduction to history theories of lscape design, the principles of lscape design, Design analysis, site planning, vehicular pedestrian circulation the layout of architectural horticultural elements Xeriscaping This course is designed to expose students to the importance of water savings in arid semiarid regions. This module will identify the principles of xeriscaping, familiarize students with mulches, irrigation choices, xeric designs options for aesthetic inclusions into your xeric lscape Hard Lscape Elements Develop an understing of commonly used lscape construction materials, including stone, concrete wood. Learn to incorporate design elements such as decks, patios, fences walkways into the lscape, furniture, light water elements will be covered Establishment Management of Lscape sites Site management, analysis, design, construction, including skill development in l topography, irrigation, drainage, vegetative composition. Seminars, Research, Training, Graduation Project Seminar in Lscaping Floriculture Training of the student on collecting proper information on specific subject on Area of specialization from different sources, presentation discussion. 4

5 Project on Design Establishment of Lscape Student must prepare graduation project under staff member s supervision. This project will be evaluated by staff committee in the department Practice in Lscaping Students will train on practices in lscaping at locations determined by the department Field Training in Horticulture Crop Science Training students to develop special skills in production of vegetables, fruit trees ornamentals. Students will practice all agricultural practices in plant production. (*) Minimum successful 95 credit hours. University elective courses Agriculture in Jordan This course deals with the development importance of agriculture in the world, Arab world in Jordan. The course also covers the agricultural environment in Jordan, elements of production, plant production in dry l irrigated areas, animal production, marketing of agricultural products, mechanization in agriculture, finally the different organization dealing with agricultural activities in Jordan. Agricultural development plans their effect on the agricultural sector in Jordan 5

6 Home Garden This course outlines the importance of the home garden its best utilization. It deals with the design layout of the home garden to include summer winter annual plants, bulbs, lawn, vegetable garden, fruit trees. It covers knowledge of cultural practices such as pruning, propagation, fertilization pest control, in addition to culturing maintenance of indoor house plants. 6
