Preparation: Print the pattern for the stocking shape you will be using. Tape together. Cut out the stocking pattern, being sure to include the placement tabs. Print the templates for all of the designs for the stocking you will be using. Each design in the multihooped stocking project has its own template. Cut out the templates to the edge of the stocking shape, being sure to include the placement tabs. Print any needed appliqué patterns for your project. Photo 01. Cut out and label appliqué pieces for your project. You may wish to place the appliqué pieces for each design into their own plastic baggies to help you stay organized. Repeat the hooping and stitching process for the second design. Photo 11 & 12. Repeat this process for each design in the stocking. Photo 13 & 14. A Stocking for Everyone Stocking Instructions Photo 09 Photo 10 Photo 11 Assemble the Stocking: Once all designs in the stocking have been stitched, cut out the stocking front along the marked pattern line. Remove any temporary markings and press your stocking front. Cut out the stocking back out of the stocking back fabric, placing the stocking pattern right side DOWN onto the right side of the backing fabric. The stocking back must be the mirror image shape of the stocking front. *For the Christmas boot only: Stitch a piece of ribbon down the center of the boot, aligning it with the center edges of the boot appliqué pieces. Photos 15 & 16. Cut out 2 of the stocking pattern from the lining fabric, one with the pattern right side up and one with the pattern right side down. Photo 17. Photo 12 Photo 13 Photo 14 Photo 15 Photo 16 Photo 17 For the Standard and Sneaker Shape Stockings: Place the stocking front and stocking front lining right sides together and stitch along the top line, using a ¼" seam allowance. Photo 18 & 19. Place the stocking back and stocking back lining right Photo 18 sides together and stitch along the top line the same as stocking front. Press the seams to the outer layer. Photo 20. Lay the stocking back and lining out flat. Place the stocking front and lining unit right sides together with the stocking back and lining as shown. Photo 21. Sew around the entire stocking shape with a ¼" seam allowance, leaving a 4" Photo 21 Photo 22 opening along one side or bottom of the lining. Photo 22 & 23. Photo 19 Photo 20 Photo 23 Photo 24 For the Boot Shaped Stockings: Place the stocking front and stocking front lining right sides together and stitch along the top curved line, using a ¼" seam allowance. Start and stop ¼" from the edge of the stocking on both sides. Photo 24. Place the stocking back and stocking back lining right sides together and stitch along the top line the same as stocking front. It is a violation of Copyright law to make and distribute copies of instructions or artwork.
15 Grade the seam allowance along the curve. Turn the curved portion of the stocking to the right side, smoothing the curve with a point turner. Photo 25. Fold the curved portions of the stocking top to one side and then lay the stocking front and lining out flat as shown. Photo 26. Repeat for the stocking back and stocking back lining. Photo 25 Photo 26 Photo 27 Place the right sides of the stocking front and back together and the right sides of the stocking front and back lining together. Photo 27. Sew around the entire stocking shape with a ¼" seam allowance, leaving a 4" opening along one side of the lining. At the point where the curved shape meets the stocking sides, stop with the needle in the fabric and pivot slightly to stitch onto the next section. Stocking Instructions For All Stocking Types: Clip corners and grade the curves along the seam allowances. Turn the entire stocking set right side out. Use a chopstick or other turning tool to turn out all corners neatly. Photo 28. Sew the opening in the lining closed. Turn the lining into the stocking and press. Photo 29. To Add a Hanger: A stocking hanger can be added in a number of ways: o Tack a loop of ribbon to the stocking front with a button. o Tack a loop of ribbon or bias tape to the finished stocking with a zig zag or straight stitches. o Add a loop during the construction process, slipping the loop between the front and back of the stocking side and stitching it into the seam. Photos 30 & 31. Photo 28 Photo 30 Photo 29 Photo 31 To Add the Dimensional Details: Create the stitch n turn designs for the desired stocking using the stitch n turn directions. Photo 32 Tack the dimensional elements to the completed stocking with a hand stitch or a machine zig-zag stitch. Photos 32 & 33. Photo 33 It is a violation of Copyright law to make and distribute copies of instructions or artwork.
16 Stitch n Turn Instructions 1. Hoop a single layer of mesh cut-away stabilizer. 2. Spray the stabilizer lightly with temporary spray adhesive. 3. Stitch the first color, which is the Placement Guide. Use a thread color that blends with your fabric choice. 4. Place a piece of fabric right side up onto the mesh stabilizer, being sure to cover the Placement Guide. See Photo 1 Note: If using fabric with pile, lightly spray a piece of wash-away topping with temporary spray adhesive. Place the topping sprayed side down onto the fabric. 5. Attach the hoop to the machine and stitch the second color, which is the Basting Stitch to keep fabric in place. 6. Embroider all but the last color of the design. See Photo Remove the hoop from the machine, but DO NOT remove the fabric from the hoop. 8. Clip all jump threads. 9. Gently tear away excess wash-away topping. (Do not wet to remove at this time). 10. Place another piece of fabric right side down directly over the first piece. If desired, pin or tape at corners to secure. 11. Reattach the hoop to the machine and stitch the final color change (through both layers of fabric). Use a thread color that blends with your fabric color. For photography purposes we ve purposely used a contrasting thread. 12. Remove the hoop from the machine and the fabric from the hoop. 13. Using embroidery scissors, carefully cut out the stitch n turn project close to the stitching line. Cut around the stitches at the opening to create a tab. See Photo Clip curves and corners as needed. 15. Turn the project right side out. Use a chopstick to turn out corners and curves. 16. Stuff with polyester stuffing. Hint: To speed up the stuffing process cut the bottom off of a cone shaped cup (such as the ones from a water cooler) and use it as a funnel to insert the stuffing. See Photo Fold tabs in and slip stitch the slit closed with hand needle or insert a piece of fusible webbing and fuse closed. For Extra Fun: Add definition stitching with a sewing machine or by hand. Stitch ribbon bows or embellishments on your projects to dress them up. Please keep in mind the age of the person to be using them then plan (or omit) add-ons accordingly. A Stocking for Everyone NOTE: Some designs may contain a Ribbon Placement Guide. This is an optional feature that allows you to turn your designs into ornaments if you so wish. To create a hanging loop, after stitching the Ribbon Placement Guide, create a loop out of ¼" ribbon and place it within the guide with loop facing into the center of the project and tails of the ribbon facing out. Lightly spray ribbon with temporary spray adhesive to hold in place. Photo 3 Photo 4 NOTE: Design pictured is for instructional purposes and may not be included in this collection. Supplies: 2 pieces of fabric one inch larger (in all dimensions) than chosen design Mesh cut-away stabilizer Wash-away topping (if using fabric with pile such as Minkee or terrycloth) Temporary spray adhesive Embroidery thread Polyester bobbin thread Embroidery machine Polyester stuffing Hand needle or fusible webbing It is a violation of Copyright law to make and distribute copies of instructions or artwork.
