12 Insights of the questionnaire testing phase One difficulty of this type of assessment is having the questionnaires understood and filled in correctly by the suppliers. Furthermore, the lapse of time between sending out the questionnaires and receiving them back filled varied from around 20 days up to several months. The evaluation of questionnaires shows that for the same process, here the example of spinning mills, the results can vary greatly. 12

18 Conclusions This approach allows a thorough assessment of the environmental impacts of suppliers, who thereby receive an interesting feedback on their activities. The environmental performance can be used as a criterion in the choice of the supplier as well as in the design of the product. This can only be possible if a high data quality is ensured; hence a constant and detailed support must be provided to the company answering the questionnaires. The tool collects primary data along the textiles value chain basis for developing a World Textiles Database 18
