6 TeachingBooks.net Original Author Programs Suggested Uses Subject Listing of Programs Suggested Uses of TeachingBooks Original Author Programs Filmed mostly in the authors homes or studios, each of the TeachingBooks author programs provides a unique understanding of the spirit and personality behind favorite books. This, in turn, helps teachers and families encourage students to read more and enjoy it! To inspire practical applications of these author programs across the curriculum, here are some implementation practices across the K 12 curriculum. Language Arts Use Learn about the craft of writing with tips directly from these professional, renowned writers. Library/Media Center Use Promote author studies by hosting a virtual author visit each month, and discuss the process for creating the book the students have read. Fine Arts Use Enable students to watch award-winning illustrators demonstrating their craft in their studios, while putting picture book art in the middle of these fine-arts activities. English Language Learning (or ESL) Use Encourage students to independently watch and re-watch authors reading their books. Videography, Multimedia Use Show students how to create video-biographies by breaking down the storyboard and template of a TeachingBooks Author Program movie. Staff Development Use Present an author or illustrator sharing their working process at a professional development meeting. Home Use Invite families to watch an author that the student is reading so that families can meet the author together to stimulate conversations about books.
