3 Welcome Prof. Atanas Georgiev President of Bulgarian Orienteering Federation Dear Orienteering Friends, For me, as President of Bulgarian Orienteering Federation, and for all Bulgarian orienteers, it is an honor, pleasant obligation, and responsibility to organize for second time since the 1999 Junior World Orienteering Championships in Bulgaria. And this great event for the Orienteering world is going on in the year when the Bulgarian orienteers celebrate 60 years since the first O-race in our country. This time, the JWOC will be held near the capital Sofia, in Rila Mountain at the magnificent international tourist center and ski resort - Borovets. Bulgaria and all Bulgarian orienteers are proud to have co-founded the International Orienteering Federation in 1961, and to have contributed to the development of our favorite sport during these over 50 years. I believe that JWOC 2014 will become a feast for the orienteering world. I hope that conducting the international competition for the Cup of Bulgaria the week before the JWOC will contribute to that. I am convinced the competition will satisfy your high demands as you experience the beauty of Bulgarian nature. I hope to have the pleasure of greeting all young elite orienteers in 2014 with a warm "Welcome to Bulgaria!" We have given lots of sportsmen to our country and to the world and in the same time supporting the development of the youth sport. Samokov municipality supports the clubs and their sport facilities and gives everything to improve the sport conditions. Evidence of this is the hosts of European and World events in different types of sports ski, aerobics, taekwondo, wrestling, basketball, volleyball, athletics, motoring, motocross, etc. I wish all the organizers perfect conditions for holding the championship and all the competitors "Good luck and excellent achievements! 2

Punching and Time-keeping System The Sportident punching system will be used in all JWOC 2014 competitions. All competitors will receive SI cards from the organisers. Clothing There are no special regulations applying to runners concerning the type of clothing they choose to wear. But the organisers recommend use of long trousers for the Long distance, Middle distance and Relay races. It is forbidden to use shoes with spikes in the Sprint competition as well Sprint trainings. Anti-doping Code Doping is forbidden: think positive - test negative. All competitors shall follow the IOF Anti-Doping Code. 4

6 Location Borovets, the first and most famous Bulgarian mountain resort, is situated on the northern slopes of the Rila Mountain at an altitude of 1300 meters. The resort enjoys a perfect location right at the foot of Mount Musala (2925 m), the highest peak on the Balkans. Only 72 km away from Sofia and just 110 km away from Plovdiv, Borovets is easily accessible from all parts of Bulgaria. The third period will be one week before the JWOC event. Training camp accommodation will be located near the JWOC 2014 Event Centre. A complete package including accommodation, meals and training maps with control points will be offered. There will also be possibilities for training at other dates.
