1 Lexington, South Carolina VICE PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE FOUNDATION Position Announcement Lexington Medical Center invites applications for the position of Vice President and Executive Director of the Foundation. This new leader will take the Foundation and philanthropic program to new heights. The Vice President and Executive Director will work closely with a new President, experienced leadership team, outstanding physicians, committed foundation staff, supportive hospital staff, and a Foundation Board of Directors committed to furthering the mission and goals of Lexington Medical Center. The mission of the Lexington Medical Center Foundation is to ensure that quality health services and patient-centered care are available for the people of the Midlands through the development of philanthropic resources on a sustaining and endowment basis to support the Lexington Medical Center.

2 About Lexington Medical Center Lexington Medical Center (LMC) is a comprehensive health care system with locations throughout the Midlands of South Carolina. The main campus includes 414 beds in West Columbia and is anchored by a vast, countywide network of more than 300 physicians, 60 medical practices, six community-based medical and urgent care centers, an occupational health center, the largest extended care facility in the Carolinas, and an Alzheimer s care center. 3 The Hospital is in year three of its strategic plan. The plan has focused on enhancing and expanding the network of care, investing in clinical programs and services, leveraging and increasing financials, positioning as a preferred destination through program differentiation, becoming the quality and value leader in the region, and aligning structure and processes to support these goals. Situated in the rolling hills of central South Carolina, the Hospital serves a community that features a major state University (University of South Carolina), the State Capitol, numerous businesses, as well as considerable natural beauty and southern charm. Lexington Medical Center Leadership BOARD OF DIRECTORS The Lexington Medical Center is guided by a 21-member community-based Board of Directors including regional business, community, and LMC medical leaders. CURRENT CEO Mike Biediger has served as President and CEO of Lexington Medical Center since He previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from 1989 to The hospital s growth during his tenure has been remarkable. After a major expansion in the early 1990s, the hospital had 292 beds when Biediger took over as CEO. Now Lexington Medical Center consists of the 414-bed main complex in West Columbia, six medical and urgent care centers, an occupational health center, an extended care facility, an Alzheimer s care center and a network of more than 300 physicians and 60 medical practices. Among the most publicized changes at Lexington under Biediger was the expansion of heart health capacity. He led the contentious battle through courts and the state Certificate of Need process before the hospital opened its first open-heart surgery unit in Biediger is proud of the Hospital s unparalleled, compassionate employee culture uniquely devoted to patient care and welfare. This culture is evident from the first moments you walk into a Lexington Medical Center facility. 4 INCOMING CEO Tod Augsburger has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer since On June 29, 2015, the Lexington Medical Center Board of Director announced that Tod Augsburger would succeed Mike Biediger as CEO. Mr. Augsburger will become Lexington Medical Center s President & CEO on October 1. Mike Biediger will assist with the leadership transition through the end of the year. Mr. Augsburger has extensive experience in health care leadership in the Midlands and around the country. He has worked skillfully and successfully with many broad and diverse responsibilities across the health services district. Previously, Mr. Augsburger served in health care administration in Ohio. He is a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives and received the South Carolina Healthcare Executive of the Year award in 2003 from the South Carolina Hospital Association and the American College of Healthcare Executives. Mr. Augsburger s track record of success, breadth of experience and understanding of the hospital s values are the reasons why the board voted unanimously to promote him to this new role. Along with other strategic priorities going forward, the continued success and growth of the Foundation is a priority for the incoming President. The Midlands Region Quality of life in the region is excellent. A temperate year-round climate provides ample opportunities to pursue outdoor and sporting opportunities. Columbia is proximate to mountains and beaches. Many visitors come to the area to enjoy its pleasures, including hiking, boating, fishing, hunting, golfing, kayaking, biking, running, and much more. Many fine shopping, arts and entertainment, and culinary opportunities are present as well. 4 Lexington Medical Center Foundation Columbia is one of the fastest growing metro areas in the Southeast. It is home to state government, six major universities including the University of South Carolina (with over 30,000 students in their city center campus), and the nation's largest Army training facility. This is a vibrant economy serving a diverse region. Columbia is known for its strong business environment, family friendly communities, and a growing arts sector. Columbia is close to many wonderful cities and communities: it s a 1.5 hour drive to Charlotte, NC; 1.5 hours to Greenville, SC; 2 hours to Charleston, SC; 2.5 hours to Myrtle Beach, SC; and 3 hours to Atlanta, GA.

The public school districts in the area are renowned to be among the finest in the state, and many private school options exist as well. Reporting to the President/CEO of Lexington Medical Center, the Vice President and Executive Director of the Foundation serves as a member of the Administrative Team and provides leadership and direction for the Foundation and its programs. The Vice President and Executive Director will design and execute strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of annual, major gifts and planned gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations. It is expected that the VP/ED will be an effective mentor to Foundation staff, and will build sufficient development operation infrastructure to support a successful philanthropy program. The Foundation s annual employee campaign titled Lean on Me in 2015 has been an unrivaled success, raising in excess of $700,000 annually and significantly surpassing national participation rates. It speaks to the service and giving culture and the focus on providing a compassionate setting for health and healing. With annual gift totals of over $1 million per year on average, the Foundation is ready to take the next step forward in its support of Lexington Medical Center. Translating and projecting internal philanthropic success into a more dynamic external effort that meaningfully engages grateful patients and attracts community support will be a primary focus going forward.
