YMCA DAY CAMP Best Summer Ever! The YMCA is the leading summer camp provider for children across the country. This year, summer fun is better than ever with new Special Interest Camp curricula to appeal to children of every age. By including Traditional YMCA Camp with weekly themes to add variety, you will have summer opportunities that will help your children stretch their imagination, gain self-confidence and learn new skills. What did our parents say about camp last year? I loved the fact that on the second day, the counselor was already calling the children by name. My boys had so much fun playing that they didn't want to come home. I loved the 3 day/week option!! Thank you for listening to parents last year! The experience made such a positive impression on my child that he was already planning to return to camp next summer, back in August. Last year, parents reported their children: Made new friends Tried new things Were well-supervised Become more physically active Increased self-confidence Were kept safe during the day DAY CAMP REGISTRATION: Kickoff Date: March 7, 2015 Register on Camp Kickoff Day and we ll waive the registration fee! ONE DAY ONLY ~ SAVE $40 YMCA Mission: To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. 4

Why the Y? Camp 2015 will be the BEST SUMMER EVER through our focus on Achievement, Belonging and Relationships! We will accomplish this by delivering five hours of enrichment/youth development programming each day. We teach character development through our Four Core Values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. We get campers moving through a variety of physical activities. We help our campers form new friendships through social and relationship-building activities. We have lots of space to move around for outdoor fun. Nearly all of our branches have pools for daily swimming and safe water fun. We address summer learning loss through enrichment activities. Special interest camps offer at least 3 hours of focused curriculum each day in the interest area. We offer a fun experience for everyone by welcoming children from all family types, income levels and special needs. Your Children Are Our #1 Priority DID YOU KNOW We offer a lower adult to child ratio than most other camps. We ensure 1 adult to 12 campers at all times! This year, our camp counselors are working to implement additional measures to ensure the safety of the campers, improve communication among staff, and make the drop off/pick up process even easier for YOU the parent! DID YOU KNOW All of our camp counselors complete an intensive 5-day training to ensure we provide the safest, most enjoyable summer experience for your children. DID YOU KNOW Last summer, our campers logged 506,970 minutes of reading over our 11 weeks of camp. That is nearly 8,500 hours of extra reading!!! 5

New this year We have partnered with the Lewis & Clark Council, Boy Scouts of America! The YMCA of Southwest Illinois is excited to partner with the Lewis & Clark Council, Boy Scouts of America for Summer Camp 2015 the Best Summer Ever! We are offering 5 weeks of Scouting Camp opportunities to choose from, with either a Mechanical Flight or Natural Flight theme. These camps are open to ALL boys and girls at each of our branches throughout the summer. Each week, these special interest camps will include a field trip to one of the Boy Scout camp locations, with activities like archery, shooting BBs and launching rockets! Field trip location schedule: June 4, 2015 Camp Joy Carlyle, Illinois June 11, 2015 Camp Warren Levis Godfrey, Illinois June 25, 2015 Camp Warren Levis Godfrey, Illinois July 16, 2015 Camp Vandeventer Waterloo, Illinois July 23, 2015 Camp Joy Carlyle, Illinois This partnership is a natural extension of the work that both the Y and the Boy Scouts of America do every day as values-based, youth development organizations. Similar to the YMCA s Core Values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, the Boy Scouts provide programs for young people that build character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. We believe this partnership will enable both of our organizations to have a larger impact on youth development within each of our communities. 6

For your benefit, camp will run from 8am-5pm! Parent surveys have shown that you want longer hours to enable you to work a full day. For the second year in a row, campers will have an additional 10 hours of Y camp per week! We also have a multi-day option available. In addition to the 5-day Summer Camp and Kinder Camp option, you now have the ability of selecting a 3-day camp week for both Traditional Day Camp and Kinder Camp. This option provides you with the flexibility you need when scheduling summer activities for your family. The 3 days chosen for attendance must be submitted to the camp director no later than the Tuesday of the week prior. These dates may not be changed after the payment due date for that week. Online registration is now available! We are excited to offer online registration for our summer camps for the second year in a row! Through your online account, you will be able to schedule automatic payments or make weekly payments, confirm registrations for specific weeks and view/print receipts and tax statements. (Please note: participants receiving financial assistance through CHASI or the YMCA will need to register in-house.) Thank you for spending your summer with us! To reward our loyal campers who come back to us week after week, we are offering a scheduled payment discount. This will allow for each child registering for the 5 day/week option to receive a $10 discount per week. This is eligible for campers who elect to have 5 or more weekly payments automatically drafted from a credit/debit card or checking account. While the discount is available whether registering online or in-house, it only applies if all 5 weeks are registered at one time. If the registration takes place online, the discount will not be added automatically. Staff will review the registration within 5 business days and apply discount at that time. This discount/offer cannot be combined with any other discounts/offers. 7

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: When/where is the Parent Orientation? A: Refer to branch specific pages for information regarding Parent Orientation dates, times and locations. At the orientation, you can expect to meet your child s counselors, learn information specific to your location, and ask any further questions you may have about camp. Parent Orientation is a great environment for you and your child to get to know your assigned counselor before camp begins. Q: What does my child need to bring to camp? A: Each day, your child should bring a lunch, 2 snacks, swimsuit, towel and water bottle. Kids should wear weather appropriate clothing and tennis shoes open-toed shoes are not allowed. It is recommended that you include an extra change of clothes, as camp activities are designed for fun and can get messy! Please label everything with your child s name so we can identify any items that may become misplaced throughout the day. Q: What does a typical camp day look like? A: The typical camp day will run from 8am-5pm. Campers will enjoy free time where they can choose their own activities from 8-9am and 4-5pm. Structured activities will begin around 9am with daily activities centered around the weekly theme. Campers will take part in a physical activity to rev up their energy and encourage a healthy lifestyle. Depending on the group, campers will eat lunch between 11:30am-12:30pm. After a break to settle their stomachs, campers will enjoy afternoon activities, including swimming. Please include enough food to ensure adequate sustenance to make it through hot days filled with lots of activity. Remember to pack a morning and afternoon snack! A: Permission slips will be provided each week when a field trip is scheduled. In addition, information regarding each week s activities will be shared in the camp newsletter via . To ensure you receive all proper communication, please verify we have your most current address. Q: Will my child have to pass a swim test to be able to swim in the pool without a lifejacket? A: In order to swim without a lifejacket, regardless of the child s age or size, he or she must pass a swim test. Tests will be offered for every child on their first day of attending camp each week. The test includes swimming above water (front or back stroke) the full length of the pool without touching the bottom or sides, tread water for 30 seconds upon arriving in the deep-end and swim to the end of the pool to exit unassisted. If a child does not pass the test, he or she must wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejacket for the rest of the week and must wait until the following week to test again. Campers may bring their own lifejackets, but they must be U.S. Coast Guard approved. This policy is in place for your child s safety and will not be waived. 9
