4 Syllabus: The Ulpan teaching method was initiated soon after the creation of the state of Israel in 1948, using associative learning to teach Hebrew in Hebrew. eteacher s implements the Ulpan method to teach, using basic vocabulary revolving around Jewish holidays, traditions, modern day Israeli culture and current affairs. The classes focus on speaking, reading and writing. Throughout the course students learn the Hebrew alphabet (Aleph Bet), vowels, and acquire a vocabulary of roughly 500 words in Hebrew, enabling them to conduct a basic conversation in Modern Hebrew. Learning Hebrew in Hebrew The Hebrew Verb Please, Thank You, Excuse Me Numbers Unit Description This first class is designed to provide you with an introduction to studying over the Internet and to give us the chance to get to know one another; plus, you ll start learning how to introduce yourself in Hebrew and get a head start on learning the Hebrew Aleph Bet. In this unit, you ll start learning some of the introductory rules of Hebrew grammar and we ll get more into the skills involved with initiating a conversation. This unit will continue to expand your Hebrew vocabulary with the aim of strengthening your ability to converse. At the end of this unit, you should be able to conduct a basic Hebrew conversation. You ll also be taught how to answer typical questions that might arise in day to day interactions. By the end of this unit, you and your teacher will be engaged in your first interactive dialogue. In Hebrew, there are ten different personal pronouns. In this unit, you ll get to know all of them, along with their different uses. In Hebrew, every object is assigned a gender, either male or female. In this unit, you ll learn how to identify an object as either male or female and how to describe them in plural form. As always, we ll continue working on expanding your vocabulary. The only way to really reach a level where you are comfortable with Hebrew is to immerse yourself in it. This unit will provide you with the vocabulary words and terms we need so that all future classes will be conducted only in Hebrew. So say goodbye to English during our classes. It s all Hebrew from here! In Hebrew, unlike English and many other languages, verbs are organized into various categories. This unit will teach you how to identify the different verb categories. After this unit, you will be able to conjugate every verb in Hebrew and to pronounce them correctly. In this unit, you ll learn how to be polite in Hebrew and how to handle yourself in various situations that require politeness, like ordering a cup of coffee. Even better, we ll teach you how to apologize when you forget to pay for it. Unit Description This unit will familiarize you with how to say what time it is in Hebrew and how to plan your daily schedule based on the hours of the day. Here we will learn the words pertaining to existence of items and the special sentence structures that result from using these words. We ll have some fun practicing using some typical restaurant interactions. We ll sum up all the questioning words that we ve learned so far: Who, What, Where, Where From, Where to, When, Why. We ll head off for an evening at the movies in Hebrew. We ll learn how to count in Hebrew, and through dialogue, we ll get to know the days of the week. We ll get to know the terms that will allow us to identify and describe the members of our family. Here we ll learn the grammatical forms in Hebrew for the phrases I have and You can call me. This unit is largely grammatical in nature, covering possession issues and will allow for the inclusion and practice of all the vocabulary words that were learned to date. During this unit, we ll learn about the items and appliances we have in our homes and start getting acquainted with Hebrew adjectives and their uses (Yes, Hebrew can be a complex language!). In this unit we ll practice adapting words for the plural and singular because without perfecting this skill, Hebrew is likely to sound far less pleasant This unit will deal with some grammar issues of basic structural words that are unique to Hebrew but are critical in building sentences and conversing. In this unit we ll learn a selection of words that would be used at a Hebrewspeaking party.
