1 Cumru Township Fire Department Training Objectives NON-SCBA Qualification (Policy 7.6) Firefighters riding CTFD apparatus in a NON-SCBA capacity will meet the following training objectives. As each objective is met, a command officer will sign his or her name in the appropriate area as evidence of the objective being satisfactorily met. It will be the volunteer fire fighters responsibility to meet the objectives by enrolling in the appropriate training classes and participating in departmental drills. This training record pertains to the following fire fighter: Name: (print) ID # Date Started: OBJECTIVE: I. Mandatory courses: (Evidence of course completion to personnel file). Date: Introduction to the Fire Service (to be completed within 1 year) Fire Ground Support (to be completed within 1 year) Exterior Fire Fighter (to be completed within 2 years) Hazardous Materials Operations (to be completed annually) First Aid/CPR/AED (to be completed annually) FEMA IS 100: Introduction to the Incident Command System (to be completed within 6 months) FEMA IS 700: The National Incident Management System (to be completed within 6 months) II. Recommended courses: (Evidence of course completion to personnel file). 2 III. The following objectives must be completed prior to riding apparatus to an emergency: Safety - Define safety procedures as they apply to emergency operations. The Specific areas to be defined are: Team concept, Portable tools and equipment, and riding on apparatus. Safety - Identify the five general items of personal protective clothing and their functions. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 6, pg ) Safety - Demonstrate the proper method for donning all protective clothing. Safety Properly perform a PPE inspection. Hose - Identify the sizes, types, amounts, and use of all hose carried on all apparatus in your primary station. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 15, pg ) Ladders - Identify the uses of ladders. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 12, pg ) Apparatus - Identify and explain the use of all portable equipment carried on the apparatus in your primary station, which may be used by a firefighter who is qualified to operate at the Non-SCBA level. 2 of 5
3 IV. The following objectives must be completed within two years of acceptance to probationary status: Hose - Demonstrate the use of nozzles, hose adapters, and hose appliances carried on all apparatus in your primary station. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 15, pg ) Hose - Demonstrate knowledge of the proper method for the following types of layouts: forward lay, reverse lay and Split Lay. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 15, pg ) Hose - Demonstrate the following hose loads: Flat, Horseshoe, Minute Man, and Triple Pack. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 15, pg ) Hose - Demonstrate connecting LDH hose to a hydrant using the hydrant assist valve carried on the engine assigned to your primary station and fully opening and closing the hydrant. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 14, pg. 805 & Chapter 15, pg ) Hose Demonstrate setting up an Engine to draft from a static source. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 14, pg ) Ladders - Identify each type of ladder on the apparatus at your primary station and define their use. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 12, pg ) Ladders - Identify the rules for safe handling of ladders, and demonstrate how to lift and carry ladders safely. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 12, pg ) 3 of 5
4 Ladders - Demonstrate how to place ladders for climbing. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 12, pg ) Ladders - Operating as an individual and as a member of a team, as appropriate, raise each type and size of ground ladder carried on the apparatus assigned to your primary station using correct flat raise and beam raise techniques for each ladder. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 12, pg ) Extinguisher - Describe portable fire extinguisher classifications, types & ratings. (Chapter 7, pg ) Extinguisher - Given several types of extinguishers, identify the appropriate extinguisher for the various classes of fire. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 7, pg ) Ropes Identify the parts of a rope and components of a knot. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 8, pg ) Ropes - Demonstrate tying a bowline, clove hitch, figure eight, half hitch, becket bend, overhand safety, figure eight on a bight, and a tracer eight. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 8, pg ) Ropes - Demonstrate hoisting the following: forcible entry tools, ground ladder, power saw, and electric fan. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 8, pg. pg ) 4 of 5
5 SCBA Demonstrate how to change an SCBA cylinder. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 6 pg ) SCBA Demonstrate how to properly fill an empty SCBA cylinder with both a portable and stationary fill station. (IFSTA v6, Chapter 6 pg ) V. Explain the Non-SCBA Fire Fighter s role in the following Cumru Township Fire Department Standard Operating Guidelines: Incident Management Riding Assignments One and Two Family Dwellings Commercial Properties Non-Hydrant Operations Water Supply Vehicle Fires Vehicle Extrication Hazardous Materials Carbon Monoxide Alarms Emergency Medical Services Fire Alarm Procedures VI.
