19 Policy Review and Coordination OCLC RDA Policy Statement In effect since RDA Day One, March 31, Catalogers WILL NOT be required to use RDA at any time in the foreseeable future.
20 RDA Discussion Paper Incorporating RDA Practices into WorldCat: A Discussion Paper Widely circulated for comments, February 15 through April 15, OCLC staff reviewed all users' suggestions and comments. Tried to determine which policies would work best both for the cataloging community and for library users. Attempted to balance the dual roles of WorldCat as a catalog and as a repository of bibliographic data. Deeply informed by the work of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging. Overwhelmingly positive and thoughtful comments were received. 20
21 OCLC RDA Policy Statement: GMDs General Material Designations (GMDs): Remain in non-rda records until March 31, Removed from records recataloged and recoded to RDA. Not included in any RDA record. $h [GMD]
22 OCLC RDA Policy Statement: Master Records Original Cataloging: New records may follow any recognized cataloging code, including RDA or AACR2. Copy Cataloging: Libraries may use existing records as they are or locally edit them as needed. Catalogers are not required to upgrade master records to change them from non-rda codes to RDA. RDA master records should not be changed to conform to an earlier cataloging code. 22
