ONCOLOGY EXERCISE CLASS SPINAL FITNESS PROGRAM BALANCE PROGRAM OSTEO- POROSIS PROGRAM : These classes are not focusing on one particular diagnosis. Physician clearance to participate in these classes may or may not be required. They are low intensity class with many modifications offered and additional cueing. These are self-pay classes. STRENGTH FOR LIFE a chair based exercise class TAI CHI : These classes are not focusing on one particular diagnosis. Physician clearance to participate in these classes may or may not be required. They are low to mid intensity classes with many modifications offered and additional cueing however, they require participants to get up and down from the floor, stepping or standing without a prop or chair. These are self-pay classes. RISE/SHINE CLASSES FUNCTIONAL FITNESS : These classes do not focus on a specific diagnosis. Physician clearance to participate may or may not be necessary. These classes are of mid to higher intensity. These are self-pay classes. CARDIO & CONDITIONING CLASS YOGA
3 Frequently Asked QUESTIONS York Hospital s Living Well Center is a medically based fitness center that provides education, exercise, wellness and support. Where is the Living Well Center located? We are located in York at 7 Long Sands Road approximately ½ mile from the main York Hospital campus. Who works at the Living Well Center? The Center is staffed by registered nurses, exercise physiologists, fitness trainers, certified diabetes educators, physical therapists, registered dietitians, yoga and tai chi instructors. What kind of exercise can I do there? The Living Well Center has programs available for individuals of all levels of health. Gym equipment is available including treadmills, stationary bikes, NuSteps, rowers, Nautilus equipment and weights. Also, group classes include osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis and oncology classes; low, medium and high level aerobics classes; functional fitness classes; chairbased strength, flexibility and balance classes, yoga, tai chi and more. Will I receive any exercise instruction or guidance? Yes! Each individual receives oneon-one education, support and goal setting. Depending on the exercise program you participate in, you will receive an individually tailored exercise program and an orientation to the equipment you will use during your exercise sessions. Do you have Cardiac or Pulmonary Rehabilitation? Yes, the Living Well Center houses York Hospital s Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation service and both cardiac and pulmonary rehab is available at the center. Call us to speak with our clinicians if your physician has recommended you participate in either of these programs. I m in physical therapy now but think I d like to join after my therapy is completed. What do I need to do? Let your therapist know that you d like to join the Living Well Center so they can help phase you into our facility. Your therapist and Living Well Center staff will work together to determine a safe plan for your future, independent exercise. Do I need to be sick or have a health problem to exercise at the Living Well Center? No! We are a wellness facility for people of all levels of health who are trying to lead the healthiest life they can live. Many of our members have no health issues and exercise with us purely because of the cleanliness of the facility, a feeling of social compatibility, our convenient location and the fact that as a hospitalbased facility, we have more clinical oversight than what is found at a traditional gym leading to a greater sense of safety during exercise. 4 LIVING WELL WITH DIABETES TUESDAY & THURSDAY :00 - :00 PM A program to address the specific fitness needs of individuals with Type II Diabetes. This program includes an initial assessment with a certified diabetes educator and a customized exercise program under the supervision of fitness professionals who offer instruction on proper techniques, and who monitor your blood sugar, heart rate and blood pressure while you exercise to ensure a safe environment. Exercise guidance will be provided in each session and education on how to enhance lifestyle modification efforts as well as a home exercise program will be offered.** If you have diabetes, exercise can benefit you! Exercise can: Help improve blood sugar control and blood lipids Increase your energy and endurance Help you lose weight and lower your blood pressure Improve your sleep patterns and your confidence **Participants should have a basic understanding of Diabetes self care and will need to bring their own blood sugar monitor and snacks as needed. We recommend you wear loose fitting clothing and comfortable, protective footwear. Cost to participate is $8/month.* *Reimbursed by most Wellness Benefit or Flexible Spending Plans. Check with your insurance carrier for details.
5 Living Well Center s GOT YOUR BACK Spinal Fitness program MONDAY & WEDNESDAY :00-:00 PM A 6-week class designed to address the specific needs of patients with back pain, stiffness and weakness. Under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist and a Fitness Instructor, this program combines education with group supervised exercise programs for participants who would benefit from spinal strengthening. For more information, contact: Emily Nedelsky, DPT ( ) or Tiffany Binette, Exercise Physiologist ( ). Cost to participate is $5 for 6 weeks. (This cost is reimbursable under most flexible spending plans)
6 BUILDING BETTER BONES Osteoporosis Class MONDAY & WEDNESDAY NOON - :00 PM A five-week class designed to address the specific needs of anyone at risk for - or diagnosed with - osteopenia or osteoporosis. Under the direction of a Licensed Physical Therapist and Exercise Physiologist, this program combines education with individualized exercise programs for participants. Prior to beginning the program, each participant will have an individual assessment to create a customized program. At the end of the 5 weeks, a post class assessment will be performed. For more information, contact Elisa Fraser, PT or Tiffany Binette, Exercise Physiologist. Cost to participate is $5 for 5 weeks. A signed medical release is required to participate. (This cost is reimbursable under most flexible spending plans)
7 Balance Program For more information: contact Tiffany or Patti at TWICE A WEEK FOR WEEKS $9.99 The Living Well Center offers a Balance Program for anyone who may be at risk for a fall*. Each class begins with 0-5 minutes of education, followed by 0 minutes of strengthening and balance work. Educational topics focus on which components affect your balance and safety and how to improve them. The educational program will focus on small movements, where learning the proper techniques for muscle strengthening will lead to increased awareness of your balance and posture. At the end of the program you will have a home exercise program and a greater level of confidence and knowledge of what affects your balance. *Our participants typically score 0- using the Tinetti Assessment Tool.
8 TAI CHI TUESDAY & THURSDAY 0:00 -:00 AM A gentle movement class often referred to as meditation in motion. Benefits include increased balance, improved focus and stress reduction. This class is suitable for just about everyone regardless of age or ability.
9 STRENGTH FOR LIFE WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY 0:00 -:00 AM This chair based exercise class works on strength, balance, and functional movements and incorporates both standing and seated balance and strength training. Participants should be able to sit/stand without assistance. Please ask the staff for guidance if you are not sure if this is the right class for you.
10 FUNCTIONAL FITNESS MONDAY & WEDNESDAY 9:00-9:5 AM Exercises will work on all aspects of strengthening focusing on your core and more! Strength building for all areas of the body related to real life demands. Come prepared to be both on your feet and on all fours..using weights, resistance bands, medicine balls and more! Please ask the staff for guidance if you are not sure if this class is right for you! FOCUS ON YOUR CORE & MORE!
11 RISE & SHINE TUESDAY & THURSDAY 6:5-7:00 AM A wake-up workout that will have you moving and get your metabolism and circulation going for the day! A variety of moves and modalities will be incorporated to get you fit and functional! Alternative options are given for participants with physical challenges however, must be able to get on/off the floor unassisted. A WAKE-UP WORKOUT!
12 YOGA THURSDAY 5:0-6:0 PM Classic yoga poses emphasizing proper body alignment, strength and flexibility. This is a multi-level class from beginners to more experienced practitioners. Everyone is supported to work at their own level.* *Alternative options are given for practitioners with physical challenges, but all participants must be able to get on/off the floor unassisted. 13 ZUMBA TUESDAY 6:00-7:00 PM This is a fun way to get some cardiovascular exercise while having a blast! Zumba is a great exercise that uses upbeat music and positive energy to get you up and moving! This dance-based class uses fairly simple movements to increase your heart rate while providing a full-body routine to give you a great workout! FUN FOR ALL AGES!
