1 Scion tc TWM Performance Short Throw Shifter Installation Manual Please Note: It is preferable to park on a flat surface, as you will have to engage and disengage the hand brake and shift from gears to neutral. If you cannot do so and are obliged to install the short shifter on a slightly inclined surface, place wooden blocks in front or behind the wheels to prevent the car from moving while you are working. Estimated Installation Time: 75 Minutes Tools Required: Philips head screw driver Hammer Flat head screw driver Punch Ratchet Vice Ratchet extensions Cutting wheel 8 mm socket Shop light 10 mm socket Rags/towels 12 mm socket Safety goggles 13 mm socket Grease 5/32 Allen wrench Needle nose pliers

2 1. Remove shift knob by turning it counterclockwise. 2. Remove the liner that is at the bottom of the arm rest. 3. Take the two bolts out using a ratchet, extension and a 10 mm socket.

3 4. Working at the front of the center console, in the footwells, locate the plastic panel shown to the left. To remove it, simply pull on its rear top part and it should unclip. Then, lift up the rear part of the console and pull towards the rear of the car. Repeat for both sides and notice the driver s side panel is slightly larger. 5. Next to be removed is the plastic trim that starts in between the cup holders and the shift boot and goes all the way to the passengers side footwell. Start by pulling up on the rear section, from the center of the console and work your way forward and then right. From the picture to the left, notice where the clips are. This trim simply hinges about the right edge, so the right edge has to be worked on last to avoid breaking the trim or the clips. 6. Grab the handbrake boot and pull it up and over the handbrake handle.

4 7. Pull on the rear section of the cup holders and unclip it working towards the front of the car. Lift it and make sure the handbrake boot is not stuck on the handbrake handle. 8. The shift boot trim is quite hard to remove. The best way is to start on the rear right corner, then the rear left corner and make your way towards the front left corner. For the front right corner, slide one hand under the trim and push up. It s better to also place one hand over this part of the trim that will act as a stopper to avoid damaging the trims when it will unclip from its base. 9. Disconnect the two plugs as shown. The grey one has its release tab on the left and the black one is at the front. Simply push on the release tabs to disconnect them.

5 10. Take the shift boot trim out of the car and put it in a safe place. 11. Pull rearwards on the trim that is completely at the front. This trim also continues on the side, so use one hand on the front section and the other hand on the right side. 12. Disconnect the 12 V plug at the rear of this trim.

6 13. Using a Philips head screw driver or a ratchet coupled with an 8 mm socket, remove the two screws at the front. 14. Working next to the hand brake, there s a harness held by the center console. Use a flat head screw driver or needle nose plier to pull it out. 15. The center console is now free to be pulled out of the car. To do so, move the seats as far back as possible and lean them back. With one hand lightly pull on the front left side of the center console in the footwell area. With the other hand, pull on the center console towards the rear. Be careful when taking the console out of the car to not scratch the interior or damage the console. Put it in a safe place.

7 16. Working on the shifter assembly, disconnect all four (4) harnesses that are attached to the shifter assembly using a flat head screw driver. 17. Remove the 10 mm push nut that holds the shifter holder pin using a cutting wheel. Safety goggles are necessary to protect your eyes during this step. Use a protective blanket to avoid burning part of the dash or seats. If not equipped with a cutting wheel, you can achieve the same result with a short, sharp flat head screw driver and a hammer. Try to get the screw driver in between the assembly and the push nut in order to pry. 18. Using a punch and a hammer, push the pin out of the assembly.

8 19. Remove the side arm. 20. Notice how the spring is mounted on the assembly. In order to remove the shifter, the spring has to be taken off and the way it s mounted is very important. Note the mounting position and then remove the spring. 21. Disconnect the shifter from the main cable, spreading the two metal clips apart and then pushing down on the cable.

9 22. Remove the shifter holder by pulling up on the front part where the pin was and then sliding it forward. 23. Take the shifter out of the assembly 24. Working inside the car, the stock base bushings have to be changed for the supplied base bushings in the kit. Start by removing all four (4) bolts holding the shift assembly down using a ratchet, an extension and a 12 mm socket. These bolts will not be re-used, so keep them with the stock shifter along with the base bushings you are about to remove from the assembly.

10 25. Using a flat head screw driver, push the steel sleeve out of the grommet. Repeat for all four corners. 26. Using a flat head screw driver, push the grommet out, as shown on the picture to the left. Repeat for all four corners. 27. Install all four (4) TWM base bushings and make sure the smaller diameter of the new bushing is facing up. Make sure they are correctly seated.

11 28. Bolt the assembly to the car using the provided bolts and washers. Use a ratchet, an extension and 13 mm socket to do so. 29. You can now clip all 4 harnesses back to the shifter assembly. 30. Working on a workbench, remove the white clip that holds the spring inside the reverse lock handle.

12 31. Take the spring out. 32. Remove the reverse lock handle from the stock shifter. Keep only the shifter holder to use with the TWM short shifter. You can re-assemble the stock shifter with the reverse lock handle, spring and clip in case you want to revert back to stock. 33. Using the supplied Cup Removal Tool, a hammer, a punch and a vice, punch the shifter out of the cup. The help of an assistant is necessary to keep the shifter from falling on the ground.

13 34. Working with the TWM shifter, grease the lower attachment point. 35. Press the shifter into the cup removed on step Apply grease on the main pivot point of the TWM shifter.

14 37. Insert the shifter in the assembly and before seating it on the main pivot, clip the cable back onto the cup. It s easier to do so with the shifter one or two inches above its seat. The help of an assistant may be necessary for this step. 38. Install the shifter on its seat and insert the shifter holder in its position. 39. Re-install the spring as shown. First insert the spring on its pivot with both legs above the shifter and the stopper. Holding the shifter in its place, take the lower leg and pull it left, around the shifter side arm and finally under the shifter side arm, on the rubber stopper. The help of an assistant may be necessary for this step.

15 40. Install the plastic side arm and slide the pin into the plastic side arm, shifter assembly and shifter holder. The use of a hammer may be necessary. 41. Using a 12 mm socket and a hammer, insert one of the supplied push nut on the pin, as shown to the left. The help of an assistant is necessary to hold the other side of the pin from moving. 42. Apply grease on the shifter shaft. Be careful not to put grease inside the threaded hole.

16 43. Slide the TWM reverse lock handle onto the TWM shifter 44. Using a 5/32 Allen wrench, thread the supplied shoulder bolt into the shifter. Make sure the reverse lock handle is properly orientated. The head of the shoulder bolt should be on the drivers side. 45. Insert one of the supplied nylon bushing onto the shifter shaft and make sure it s seated at the bottom of the reverse lock handle. The flange of this bushing should be on top.

17 46. Insert the spring and the other nylon bushing onto the shifter, as shown to the left. 47. Secure this in place using the supplied e-clip. You can use your hands or needle nose pliers to do so. 48. Re-install everything reversing step 1 to 15. Thank you, for choosing
