9. General information on installation of the screen in the vehicle Ideal installation position The screen should be secured in the centre of the vehicle just behind the front seats to provide the vehicle occupants in the rear with the best possible view of the screen. When deciding on the best installation position, ensure that the screen is not a nuisance to the driver or does not obstruct his view either when open or closed. Check all applicable national regulations and laws. Requirements for attachment in the vehicle Dead weight / vibrations / shocks The weight of the screen unit (A) including the mounting plate (C) is 1,5 kg. To prevent severe vibrations affecting the screen under normal driving conditions and at the same time to ensure an unimpaired view, the screen must be secured to a frame part of the vehicle. Most vehicles have struts in the roof structure that usually run across the width of the vehicle. The roof structure is attached to these struts, which extend across the entire vehicle. These struts offer the most stable attachment for the screen unit (A). The mounting plate (C) supplied permits the screen to be attached to the struts in the roof structure. Subject to errors and technical changes 36 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad

If the struts are too far from the ideal installation location, an extension plate must be used to attach the mounting plate. Attachment points (at least 3 stable attachment points) The mounting plate or the extension plate must be secured to at least two points of the vehicle s strut structure. This prevents longitudinal movements or lateral rotational movements of the screen when using the screen or folding it down. The third attachment secures the mounting plate when folding down the screen. This attachment can be made directly to the roof panel by installing the plates included in the installation kit as well as the double-sided adhesive tape. The plastic threaded rod included in the installation kit makes it easier to align the plate. Vehicles with sunroof In vehicles equipped with a sunroof, the screen s mounting plate can usually be mounted directly on the struts to which the frame of the sunroof is also attached. In this case, an extension plate is only likely to be necessary for the third attachment to extend the mounting plate over the sunroof panel. It must be ensured that the attaching parts do not impair the movement of the sunroof or the sunroof panel. Subject to errors and technical changes 37 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad

Preparing the vehicle headlining Removing the vehicle headlining or installing the RSE system with suspended vehicle headlining There are two possibilities for installing the screen unit (A): Pulling down the vehicle headlining and cutting out two small holes for attachment and the necessary cables or Leaving the vehicle headlining in the vehicle and cutting out a large hole for the installation of the mounting plate. Cutting small cut-outs in the vehicle headlining The Rear Seat Entertainment system has been designed as an accessory that requires few conversion measures in the vehicle. If the vehicle headlining can be removed without damage and without great effort, only two small cut-outs need be cut in the vehicle headlining. If the Rear Seat Entertainment system is later removed from the vehicle, the covers (P) included in the installation kit can be used to hide the cut-outs. Cutting a large cut-out in the vehicle headlining If the vehicle headlining cannot be removed, a larger cut-out can also be cut in the headlining as an alternative. This may also be necessary if an interior light is located at the point at which you want to fit the screen unit (A). In this case, a cover is secured to the mounting plate (C) using plastic clips before the screen unit is fitted. Subject to errors and technical changes 38 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad

If the Rear Seat Entertainment system is to be removed, this large cover must not be removed. Only the attachment openings need be hidden using the small covers (P). The option for installation without removing the vehicle headlining will not be discussed in detail below. The mounting plate (C) is attached in the same way as described below. Subject to errors and technical changes 39 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad

10. Installation guide for the screen unit G Incorrect installation Incorrect installation may result in damage to the unit or to the vehicle. Specialist knowledge and skills are required to install the unit and its components. We strongly recommend that you have the unit installed by a specialist workshop Determining the ideal / best installation location First determine the best / ideal position for the installation of the screen based on your personal preference and the criteria described under General information on installation of the screen in the vehicle on page Locating support struts of the roof structure Before removing the vehicle headlining, try to determine whether a support strut is located at the desired installation position (or nearby). If the position of the support strut results in small changes to the viewing angle of the screen unit (A), you should check the effects before removing the vehicle headlining. Approximately measure the distance of the desired installation position from the A-pillars and from a sunroof, if fitted, etc. Subject to errors and technical changes 40 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad

10.3 Measuring distance of the vehicle headlining from the support struts / roof Installation Guide At the desired installation position, measure the distances between the vehicle headlining and the support strut as well as between the vehicle headlining and the roof panel. A fine needle may be used as an aid when measuring these distances. Insert the needle through the vehicle headlining and push it as far as the support strut or the roof panel and then measure the distance Removing the vehicle headlining If possible, remove the vehicle headlining completely and put it in a safe place. If it is not possible to remove the vehicle headlining completely because of wiring, for example, lower it far enough so that you can access the roof structure. Do not damage the vehicle headlining when installing the screen. Subject to errors and technical changes 41 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad

10.5 Determining the central axis of the vehicle Determine the central axis by measuring the width of the vehicle and mark its location so that the mounting plate (C) can be attached correctly Aligning mounting plate to the support struts of the vehicle The central axis of the mounting plate (C) is marked by a small notch. This notch must be aligned with the central axis marking in the vehicle (read the labels on the mounting plate). Determine the desired installation position of the screen unit on the central axis. The two elevated recesses are used (elevated part against the support strut) for subsequently screwing on the mounting plate Mark the position of the drill holes on the support strut Determining the distance between the mounting plate and the struts/roof Decide whether and, if so, which spacers are needed to maintain the distance measured as under 10.3 on page 41 from the vehicle s support strut to the vehicle headlining. Subject to errors and technical changes 42 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad

10.8 Determining the third attachment point (deciding whether an extension plate is needed) In vehicles without a sunroof, it is usually possible to attach the mounting plate (C) to a third point on the roof panel. If a sunroof or a sunroof panel requires a distance greater than the mounting plate, then the extension plate (E) should be fitted to the mounting plate in order to maintain the necessary length for the third attachment point. The third attachment point of the mounting plate (C) can be connected to the roof by using the double-sided adhesive tape included in the installation kit. Once affixed, the supplied double-sided adhesive tape can no longer be removed Specifying the cable routing to the connection box. In order to avoid short-circuits and malfunctions, install the cables so that they cannot be pinched, kinked, chafed or detached. Ensure that there is enough cable length to route the connection plug of the connecting cable through the vehicle headlining in order to connect it to the connection on the side of the screen housing. Subject to errors and technical changes 43 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad

10.10 Attaching mounting plate to support struts Drill the holes marked in 10.6 on page 42 in the support struts and secure the mounting plate (C) using at least two sheet metal screws. Ensure that the correct spacers, as determined in 10.7 on page 42, are now provided above the elevated recesses of the mounting plate. When drilling and then tightening the mounting plate, ensure that no undesirable damage is caused to the roof (e.g. excessively long screws) Attaching cutting template to the mounting plate and routing the connecting cable The connecting cable is connected on the passenger side of the screen unit (A). Guide the connecting cable (L) through the "J -shaped slot in the mounting plate. Allow the connecting cable to protrude through the cable duct in the bracket of the cutting template (H). Secure the bracket of the cutting template and the cable using two M6 hexagon socket screws (see figure). Ensure that both the left and the right bracket are positioned correctly. In addition, the M5 bolt must be secured using a nut and must protrude downwards beyond the bracket. These bolts are later used for precisely determining the first cut-outs in the vehicle headlining. Subject to errors and technical changes 44 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad

10.12 Securing mounting plate to the third attachment point (using extension plate if necessary) Secure the supplied extension plate, if necessary, using four M5 pan-head screws, washers and nuts. Use the plates supplied and secure the 8 mm plastic threaded rod using the washers and nuts supplied, which mutually lock one another. Secure the plate (F) to the roof using the supplied double-sided adhesive tape. The excess part of the plastic threaded rod can be cut off using strong pliers or a saw. Once stuck in place, the supplied double-sided adhesive tape can no longer be removed. Subject to errors and technical changes 45 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad

10.13 Routing cables and installing vehicle headlining In Secure the connecting cable (L) using adhesive tape. Ensure that no cables are in the area in which the vehicle headlining is secured, otherwise possibly-installed side airbags may be affected. Install the vehicle headlining. The order to avoid short-circuits and malfunctions, install the cables so that they cannot be pinched, kinked, chafed or detached. vehicle headlining may bend slightly due to the protruding bolts, which are needed for positioning the cutting template. Subject to errors and technical changes 46 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad

10.14 Locating mounting plate attachment points using the magnet Installation Guide Use the magnet (G) to locate the two M5 bolts if the vehicle headlining has already been installed in the vehicle again. Once you have found the bolts, transfer the outline of the magnet (approx mm) onto the vehicle headlining Cutting two small cut-outs in the vehicle headlining and securing cutting template Cut the vehicle headlining carefully at the two marked locations along the markings. Subject to errors and technical changes 47 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad

Secure the template (H) for the cut-out by pressing the cylindrical part of the cutting template through the vehicle headlining onto the small suspension attachments. Secure the templates using a threaded nut Cutting two cut-outs in the vehicle headlining Using the cutting template (H) cut out the larger cut-outs. Ensure that you remain in the area of the template. Remove the cutting template. To complete the cut-out, cut through the remaining segments. Remove the cut-out section of the vehicle headlining. Subject to errors and technical changes 48 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad

10.17 Removing the cutting template from the mounting plate and pull the connecting cable through the cut-outs Release the two M6 hexagon socket screws for the cutting template bracket and remove the bracket through the cut-outs in the vehicle headlining. Pull the connecting cable (L) through the cut-outs in the vehicle headlining Connecting the connecting cable plug to connection on screen and securing the screen unit to the mounting plate The screen unit (A) is suspended from the mounting plate by means of the securing tabs. The screen unit holds itself in place and your hands are free for securing the screen unit. Connect the bores in the screen unit to the mounting plate by pressing the securing tabs of the screen unit (A) through the slots in the mounting plate. Then push the screen unit forwards until the screen unit can be secured using four M4 screws. Connect the plug of the connecting cable (L) to the connection of the screen unit (A). Subject to errors and technical changes 49 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad

10.19 Attaching outer covers for the cut-outs Allow the side covers of the screen unit (B) to lock. Subject to errors and technical changes 50 Copyright by Becker GmbH, D Karlsbad
