Warranty Card IMPORTANT: READ THESE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY PRIOR TO THE INSTALLATION. Decal Storage Recommendation All decals are to be provided storage facilities (bins, trays, racks, etc..) of suitable size and shape to avoid creasing or damaging parts during storage. Decals should be stored in a clean area free of excessive moisture and direct sunlight with ambient temperatures not exceeding 70º Fahrenheit and 50% relative humidity. Vehicle Preparation Temperature 1) Body surfaces receiving graphics must be between approximately 70 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not apply graphics when the body surface is outside this temperature range. 2) A body temperature of approximately 70 degrees Fahrenheit (or above) must be maintained for at least 6 hours following this application. Surface Preparation 1) The body surface must be smooth, clean, and free of pits or projections. 2) Thoroughly clean the areas that will receive graphics with a lint-free cloth dampened with a quality automotive-cleaning solvent such as Isopropyl Alcohol or hi-flash naptha. Do not use acetone. 3) Wipe all surfaces dry with a lint-free cloth. Installation Tools Required Utility Knife Spray type bottle Isopropyl alcohol Liquid Detergent (Dawn, Joy, etc...) Clean cloths (lint free) Roller Safety Pin or Needle Getting Started Prepare a 1% soap solution using approximately 2 drops of neutral dish-detergent (Dawn, Joy, or Dove brands) per gallon of water. Use a spray bottle mist to apply the solution to the body surface. Study all drawings to understand the layout and style of each graphic. Look at each graphic segment familiarizing yourself with the locations on the body surface. Approximate installation time: 2 1/2 hours. Water and Air-Pocket Removal If, after application, bubbles or air are left in the decal pierce them with a safety pin, needle, or tool with the same size piercing tip. Never use a razor blade or knife edge. Pierce the bubble on it s outer edge and force out the air from the opposite edge with the blade of the plastic squeegee. Repair Instructions A) REPAIR: Repair is required if the stripe or paint is damaged or if the stripe is mislocated. Strip removal may be facilitated using a heat gun to soften both the film and adhesive. The following repair procedures are recommended: B) If the stripe is ruined with no paint being removed, the surface should be wiped with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth to ensure a smooth and clean surface. Another stripe would then be applied according to the application procedure. C) If a section of paint is removed when stripe is pulled away, the area must be repaired prior to installing another stripe. Badge Removal Before starting application, there will be two PT Cruiser badges located on passenger s and driver s side door and possibly a Limited Edition badge on tail gate. These will need to be removed before installation begins. Remove badges by softening adhesive with a heat gun set to medium temperature. Heat till badge is pliable enough to pull off. Remove any remaining residue with Isopropyl Alcohol. Rev. B Page 3
4 BODY PANEL INSTALLATION Prior to installation of body panel components, please reference body panel parts layout (see Page 2). Passenger Side Front Door 1) Wipe the intended application surface with Isopropyl Alcohol before application of the graphic. Wipe surface dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use Acetone. 2) Identify passenger s side front door decal (Part #368.50) and pre-fit part before installing (Fig. 1). 3) Use keyhole and door handle as locators to position graphic (Fig. 1-A). Align top edge of decal parallel to upper body feature line. *Note: There will be a gap between top edge of decal and upper body feature line. This will be covered with trim component. 4) Thoroughly saturate the painted surface area receiving decal with wetting agent solution just prior to removing the liner from the decal. 5) Lay decal bottom side up. Carefully remove liner exposing adhesive backing. Remove liner by flicking the corner of the decal material with the ball of the thumb or finger away from the liner (always remove the liner from the decal, never the decal from the liner). 6) Keep decal taut, place on door aligning with key hole and door handle. Continue applying to front door. Keep decal parallel to upper body feature line. 7) Check placement of decal and make necessary adjustments. 8) Starting at the center of the decal, squeegee the part onto the paint surface removing all air bubbles and/or the wetting solution to assure a satisfactory bond. Do not use thumbs or fingers as adequate pressure cannot be applied or maintained to give proper adhesive wet out. 9) Wait 30 minutes and remove the carrier paper by pulling it back onto itself (180 degrees), exposing woodgrain finish. Re-squeege all edges to ensure proper decal bonding. Gently wipe area with a clean, dry cloth. Remove any air or water pockets (see Getting Started, page 3). 2) Identify passenger s side rear quarter decal (Part #368.58) and pre-fit part before installing. 3) Position decal approx. 1/2" from upper body feature line and approx. 1/2" behind the opening leading edge of passenger s side rear door (Fig. 1). 4) Repeat previous installation steps as necessary. 5) Wait 30 minutes and remove carrier. Using a bladed utility knife, trim around vinyl on gas lid door. (For best results, place blade flat against outer edge of lid and follow lower half perimeter) Fig. 1-B. Make sure edge of vinyl is applied firmly after cutting. 6) Roll remaining vinyl into gas lid opening. Passenger s Side Tail Gate 1) Wipe the intended application surface with Isopropyl Alcohol before application of the graphic. Wipe surface dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use Acetone. 2) Identify passenger s side tail gate decal (Part #368.60) and pre-fit part before installing. 3) Use existing tail gate emblem/handle as a locator to position graphic. Align top edge of decal parallel to upper body feature line (Fig. 2). *Note: There will be a gap around perimeter of RH/ LH tail gate decal panels. The most important element of this step is to focus on alignment to tail gate emblem/handle. 4) Repeat previous installation steps as necessary. Repeat as necessary for driver s side decals. Passenger s Side Rear Door 1) Wipe the intended application surface with Isopropyl Alcohol before application of the graphic. Wipe surface dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use Acetone. 2) Identify passenger s side rear door decal (Part #368.54) and pre-fit part before installing (Fig. 1). 3) Use door handle as locator to position graphic. *Note: Positioning and alignment will be the same as front door application (Fig. 1-A). 4) Repeat installation steps as in front door application. Passenger s Side Rear Quarter 1) Wipe the intended application surface with Isopropyl Alcohol before application of the graphic. Wipe surface dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use Acetone. Remove part from liner, exposing adhesive backing. 4) Align part to upper body feature line and rear edge of front door (Fig. 3). Once part is correctly positioned, apply by pressing firmly to vehicle surface removing all air or water pockets. If necessary, use roller to assist in part installation. If air or water pockets still remain, carefully pull up on edge of trim and force out air or water from opposite side. Gently wipe off excess water. 5) Identify passenger s side front quarter panel trim component. Remove part from liner exposing adhesive backing. 6) Align part to upper body feature line and rear edge of front quarter panel. Apply trim component same as passenger s side front door component (Fig. 3). *Note: Part can be adjusted to fix location up to 10 minutes after installing. Tail Gate Assembly 1) Be sure intended application surface is clean and free of debris. 2) Spray perimeter of tail gate area receiving trim component with wetting agent. 3) Identify tail gate assembly trim components. Remove Part D from liner, exposing adhesive backing. 4) Align top of part to upper body feature line. Center part on tail gate left to right and install starting at top center working outboard. Align sides evenly with edge of tail gate. Align bottom parallel with lower edge of tail gate (Fig. 4). *Note: Lower part of tail gate trim does not go to bottom of tail gate (Fig. 4). Locate Part E of tail gate trim assembly and install vertically using key hole as locator. Locate Part F of tail gate trim assembly and install beneath existing tail gate release handle/emblem. *Note: Top edge of Part E and bottom edge of Part F should butt to Part D. Repeat as necessary for driver s side trim components Passenger s Side Rear Door 1) Be sure intended application surface is clean and free of debris. 2) Spray entire door area receiving trim component with wetting agent. 3) Identify passenger s side rear door trim component (Part #368.52). 8 PT Woodie Exterior Graphic Care Today s finest pressure sensitive graphics have been professionally applied to your vehicle. These graphics require some maintenance and should be treated similarly to a painted surface. Do wash your graphics with plain soap and water or a car wash soap. Rinse thoroughly. Do keep high pressure nozzles at least 1 1/2 feet from the edge of the graphics. High pressure spray may cause the edge of the graphic to peel. Do test any cleaning solution on a small section of the decal before using. Don t power wash or drive thru wash until 7 days after installation. Don t use any aromatic solvents such as acetone, M.E.K., toluene, paint thinner, lacquer thinner on your graphics. Any solvent may soften or smear colors. Don t overcoat the graphics with clear paint. Don t let gasoline or other fuels drip or stay on graphics for any length of time. If a spill occurs, wipe off and rinse with water immediately. Don t paint over the graphics. Don t apply wax over graphics, especially if the wax contains any petroleum distillates. Wax that has dried between stripes can be removed by softening it with rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs. Be sure to rinse the area after cleaning. Care and caution should be taken when storing your vehicle. Vinyl graphics and other items such as dashboards, tires and flexible rubber products will have a shorter life expectancy when exposed to severe heat and sunlight. Protection of graphics from prolonged direct sunlight will ensure an extended life.
