5 1 Cellular kit 1.1 Telit HE910 cellular modem The 3.75G HE910 mini PCIe data-card delivers 21 Mbps-down and 5.7 Mbps-up data rates on HSPA+ networks and is fully compatible with its EV-DO counterpart the DE910 mini PCIe providing connected device makers maximum range of options for North American cellular operator support. 1.2 Highlights Compatible with CompuLab fit-pc3i, fit-pc4 and IPC2 (models with WiFi) Telit HE910-D 3.75G Cellular Modem Mini PCIe form factor 3.75G cellular modem, Up to 21/5.7 Mbps UL/DL data rates UMTS HSPA+ bands: 800/850*, 900, AWS 1700, 1900, 2100 GSM GPRS EDGE bands: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 Penta Band ( MHz/ MHz) RP-SMA Omni 5dBi Antenna, Rx diversity 1.3 Kit content Compulab cellular kit contains the following items: Telit HE910-D 3.75G Cellular Modem Penta Band ( MHz/ MHz) RP-SMA Omni 5dBi Antenna Note: Compulab cellular kit does not include RF coaxial cables (U.FL to SMA) and based on WiFi cables installed in the systems, therefore it is compatible for models with WiFi module only. 6 2 Installation instructions In the following chapter provided the instructions of module installation and initial bring up. 2.1 Mini PCI Express module Opening the service door a. Unscrew marked Philips screw at the bottom to release service-door. b. Slide out service-door until it stops about 10 mm. c. Service-door is now detached. Lift edge of service-door to completely remove Service bay The service-bay provides easy access to hard-disk, RAM, and mini-pcie sockets including WLAN, cellular and other modules. CompuLab Ltd. 7 2.1.3 Mini PCI Express sockets The full-size mini PCIe is available for any use, like cellular modem. The half-size mini-pcie normally used for WLAN cards. If you remove the WLAN module make sure to isolate the ends of antenna cables with some tape to avoid short-circuit Antenna a. Both WLAN module and Cellular modem use two antennas for Rx diversity to improve RF signal reception and sensitivity, especially in RF inconvenient environments like urban and indoor spaces. b. RF coaxial cables in the system (U.FL IPEX MHF to SMA) serve both WLAN and Cellular carriers frequencies and match in terms of characteristics impedance and V.S.W.R. (voltage standing wave ratio). c. WLAN and Cellular coexistence Cellular antenna connection based on the existing RF cables (models with Wifi) so users will use one cable connected to the WLAN module and the other to the Cellular modem. WLAN and Cellular antennas are different therefore must be connected to the correct SMA connector on the back panel after reassembly Reassembly Re-assemble in reverse order. 8 3 Software Connection Setup 3.1 Windows 8 This chapter provides reference to Windows 8.1 settings. Windows 7 and Windows 10 use identical software configuration steps. 1. 11 3.2 Linux Mint The following instruction has been tested on Linux Mint Click on "Network Manager" applet 2. Click on "Network Connections" and then on "Add" button 3. Select "Mobile Broadband" entry and click on "Create" "Telit wireless solutions Telit Wireless" modem should be auto detected 4. Click on "Continue" and select country, provider and default data plan 5. Click on "Apply" button and then on "Save" 6.
