1 5 th Grade Classroom Procedures
2 Morning Procedures Greet teacher with a handshake, hug, hello, or highfive. Unpack all items. Take out your reading log and ALL homework. Place backpacks and lunch boxes in designated areas. Place your lunch money in your envelope in the folder, and make your lunch selection. Make sure your snack is with you. Sharpen 2 or 3 pencils for the day. Read the morning message and follow instructions. Listen to the morning show. You may work silently as you listen. DO NOT TALK.
3 Behavior Plan Use Lifelong Guidelines and LIFESKILLS Daily Consequences 1st Consequence: Warning 2nd Consequence: Conference 3rd Consequence: Phone Call 4th Consequence: Office
4 Gathering Procedures Wait until your Learning Club/Tribe is called. Push in your chair silently. Come to the gathering place with your learning club. Sit criss-cross, hands in your laps and wait silently. Wait for permission to talk.
5 Homework All homework assignments are to be copied into your assignment book daily. Always give your personal best when doing your homework. If you have a question about the assignment, call a classmate or me. Homework should be completed in pencil unless other directions are given. Homework is due the next day unless other directions are given. Homework will be graded, in some manner, daily and recorded as a part of your homework grade in each subject. Missed homework assignments will be completed in a timely manner. Late homework assignments will effect your grade.
6 Restroom Breaks Use the restroom before you come to class, while at lunch, or at an appropriate time. You may go to the restroom in the classroom if it is an emergency. Follow our school procedures for the restroom. Wash your hands. ALWAYS LEAVE THINGS BETTER THAN THE WAY YOU FOUND THEM!
7 Sharpening Pencils Come to school with your pencils sharpened. Sharpen pencils at school before the morning show begins. Pencils may be sharpened during independent work time only. If your pencils break, borrow one from one of the members of your learning club. Returned borrowed pencils with a sincere thank you.
8 Lining Up to Leave Our Room Wait until you are called to line up. Make sure your desk and the floor are spotless. Silently, push your chair under your table and listen for directions. Walk to the appropriate door when instructed and line up according to procedure. Use the life skills of responsibility and integrity while walking in the hall.
9 Related Arts Take all materials needed for the class. Use your PERSONAL BEST in related arts. Remember, you are representing our class family! Have all materials with you when you return to class.
10 Cafeteria Procedures When in line, stay on the second tile and remain silent. Walk through the line, and do not pass others. Be respectful to everyone. Use a three inch voice when speaking to the person on your right and/or left. Wait for your teacher to dismiss your side of the table. Check the table and floor for trash, then turn your trays in one at a time, and line up silently second tile, single file.
11 Recess Procedures Walk silently outside. Wait for the teacher to dismiss you. Use LIFESKILLS and Life long guidelines. If you have a problem, tell a teacher on duty. Line up silently, quickly, & appropriately in our area when recess is over. Follow line procedures at all times.
12 Hallway Procedures Walk silently on the right side of the hall. Second tile, single file. Keep your hands by your side. Keep your personal space. These procedures apply to all lines.
13 Interpersonal (Group) Work Stay with your group. Use an appropriate voice voice. Actively participate. Everyone has an important part. Remember there are no put-downs. Praise each other. Use active listening. Work to accomplish your group s goal, and pay attention to the time allotted for the activity. Ask 3 classmates if you need help before asking the teacher. When signaled, be ready to share with the class or move on.
14 Active Listening Listen with your eyes, hands, and heart. Take notes as instructed or when needed. If I write, you write.
15 Discarding Debris During breaks, interpersonal work, or intrapersonal work, walk to the trash can or the recycling bin. Do not make balls from the paper. Place debris in the trashcan or the recycling bin. If you see liter, help us keep our community clean and pick it up.
16 Intrapersonal (Independent) Work Work by yourself. Do not communicate with others by talking, gesturing, or writing notes. Keep your eyes on your work. Keep your hands to yourself. Remain seated unless you have permission to get up. If you need help, raise your hand. Continue working on something you can do, and I will get to you as soon as possible. If you finish early, check over your work. Then read, work on your writing, study, or use your LIFESKILLS and take the initiative to complete an anchor assignment. Wait for further instructions.
17 Your Binder and Materials Your binder must be at school EVERY DAY. Keep it neat with ALL papers secured inside. Stay organized by keeping subject areas in the correct folder or tab. I may periodically check notebooks for neatness and organization.
18 Direct Instruction: Have all materials ready and on your desk. Use active listening. Record information presented by the teacher in the appropriate binder section or area. If you cannot see, silently move so that you can see. Remember to take all materials with you.
19 Procedures for Turning in Friday Folders and Assessment Binders Friday folders and assessment binders are sent home each Friday, unless it is a short week. Friday folders should be signed and returned the next school day. The Reflections on Learning should be completed and signed the next school day.
20 End of Day Procedures Pack needed materials quickly. Actively listen to the announcements. Walk to your dismissal area in a silent, straight line so that we can practice safety in all areas.
21 Fire Drill Procedures Line up quickly and silently. Walk silently in a straight line to designated location. Remain silent in the line while teacher calls the roll. Listen for directions.
22 Audience Procedures Enter silently. Remain seated unless instructed otherwise. Use active listening sit still, do not fidget. Hold remarks and questions until the speaker asks for them. Do not raise your hand when someone is speaking. Show appreciation appropriately. Exit silently with your class.
23 Reading Counts Tests All Reading Counts tests must be taken in the classroom or in the media center.
24 Visitor Procedures Continue working. Remain seated. Raise your hand to speak. Make good choices. Use LIFESKILLS and Lifelong Guidelines.
25 Read Aloud Actively listen Sit properly No interruptions
26 Silent Writing We will have silent writing time everyday for 10 minutes. No talking. Remain in your seat. This is a time to write, not ask questions.
27 Science Lab Procedures Remember to take your lab notebook. Listen for important announcements and instructions. Follow all class procedures, even when with Mrs. Rowell. Remember, you represent our class-do it well!
28 Quiz-Quiz-Trade Find one partner. Ask and answer both of your questions. Trade cards. Raise your hand to find a new partner. Repeat the steps above.
29 Milling to Music Moving to the music (appropriately) When the music stops, find one partner closest to you.. Share. When the music starts again, find a new partner. Repeat the steps above.
30 Following Directions Underline, circle, or box in important details in the directions ahead of time. Read the directions at least twice before beginning the work. If we cannot write on the material given, we will use a Post-It note to make sure we understand the directions.
31 Rain Procedure Use the LIFESKILL of initiative and common sense with rain gear. As we WALK, we will be silent, safe, and expedient. We will be courteous to other classes as we pass. As we enter the building, we will wipe our feet and do our Personal Best not to squeek.
32 Using White Boards Gather materials quickly less than one minute: board, marker, tissue or sock. Wait for directions. Remember, we use the boards for learning, not for playing. Clean your board and put away ALL materials quickly less than one minute.
33 Speed Sharing Stay focused Be a good listener or sharer Give your attention to the sharer Present well Give specific feedback Have you thought about...?
34 ABC- It s Urgent! The teacher will set the timer for 5 minutes. One partner will write as many things about the given topic (using the letters of the alphabet) until their partner rolls a 6 on the die. The other person then begins to write while the first person was rolling. The process repeats. We will Mill to Music to add to our ABC charts.
