1 Washington Korean Women s Society (WKWS) Scholarship Awards The Washington Korean Women's Society Cultural and Scholarship Fund, Inc. is a non-profit organization established in 1981 to promote communication and mutual understanding among Korean and American communities, and to advance the cultural, economic and educational development of its members and other selected groups. The Society's objectives are to promote, preserve and contribute to Korean culture in the United States; to provide scholarship aid to Koreans, Amerasians of Korean descent, and other ethnic groups of students; and to share the American experience with new members who are recent arrivals in the United States. Women of Korean descent or wives of Korean-Americans are eligible to be members. In addition to various cultural activities that WKWS participates in with the community, the Society has been providing scholarships to Amerasian students in Korea for the last 9 years. In more recent years, the organization has also expanded its scholarship program to include students in the DC Metropolitan area. The Washington Korean Women s Society (WKWS) is proud to announce the inclusion of Prince George s County Public Schools this year in its Scholarship Program. Seniors from Prince George s County Public Schools will be offered the opportunity to apply for the WKWS scholarships. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to seniors who will attend college in the fall of This is a one-time award which will be made to the recipients college directly.

2 Eligibility Requirements: Open to students of any ethnicity (U.S. Citizens only) Applicant must have at least a 3.0 Grade-point average on a 4.0 scale Applicant must submit transcript; an unofficial transcript is sufficient Applicant will provide documents that their family s combined income is less than $70,000 (i.e.; IRS Income Tax Return Form) Applicant will provide proof of acceptance at a college for the school year Applicant will submit a 300-word essay describing how he/she overcame a significant obstacle in life Scholarship applications will be submitted to the Prince George s County School Board Office for evaluation and selection. Prince George s County School Board Office will forward the selected student s information including the student s picture to WKWS. A complete listing of Winners will be published on WKWS web site and printed in the WKWS newsletter. Application must be typed.
