1 Varsity Letter in Drama Criteria Points needed to obtain Varsity Letter = 100 points (in ONE year). *Points may not be carried over from one year to another. (Maximum) Point Breakdown Roles: Stage Manager 25 points Supporting Role 20 Points Ensemble Role 17 points Stage Crew 15 points Lights 15 points Sound 15 points Costume runner 15 points Note: If you are unsure which category your role fits under (i.e. Lead vs. Supporting), you may speak privately with Mrs. Verdi. Extras: Move In 5 points each each Set building 3 points each Attending Auditions 3 points each show Open House 5 points Cleaning/ organizing Pods, costumes, set or props 3 points Ushering /handing out programs 3 points Dance Captain (musical) 5 points Pay to Play paid by due date 2 points Other Qualifications: Students must maintain a C average or above in all of their classes. Deductions: Poor rehearsal behavior points deducted at director s discretion Unexcused absence 1 point deduction per absence Lack of effort/ preparation points deducted at director s discretion *Note: The points awarded are the Maximum offered in each category. If you are not meeting expectations, points will be deducted accordingly. Letter will be awarded at the Annual Drama Awards Banquet in the Spring.

2 Bishop Hartley Drama Members and Families, I am thrilled to announce that, for the first time in many years, students who participate in the Drama Department at Bishop Hartley will be eligible to receive a Varsity Letter in Drama. This is a very exciting opportunity for our Drama Members and the Department itself! As in any sport or activity where Varsity Lettering is offered, students will need to put forth many hours, hard work and dedication to achieve a Varsity Letter in Drama. A student will not simply receive a letter for participation. Only the most dedicated, deserving students will receive a Varsity Letter. Students desiring to receive a Varsity letter in Drama must accumulate 100 points by the end of the Drama Season. (Point criterion is provided on the following page.) Points will be awarded accordingly, based on the various roles (both acting and behind the scenes) and activities in which students can participate. (Sample point accruals are included later in this packet.) I believe it is important for Drama members to be active in the department the whole year even if they are involved in other activities. It may be possible, though extremely difficult, to letter in Drama if you do not participate in all three productions. By participate, I mean as an actor, stage manager OR crew. However, those who are unable to be in the cast or crew will have to work extra hard to accrue points outside of the rehearsal period (set building, move in, strike, cleaning days, etc.). I am aware that some individuals would prefer to remain behind the scenes as a crewmember or stage manager. Those students are also eligible to receive a letter in Drama, as ALL of the roles in the theatre are important! Also those who audition for a show and are not cast may choose to participate on crew. However, limited spots may be available, so make sure you contact me EARLY if this is something that interests you. I hope you are all excited for this opportunity! However, you may only audition if you are able/ willing to accept a role.) 5 Sample Point Accrual # 3 Janice Ian does the following things to receive points: Fall Play: One day set building 3 points Pod/ Set Organizing Day 3 points Passes out programs all three nights: 9 points (You can receive 3 points for auditioning even if you aren t cast!) (You don t have to be in the show or even on stage crew to help with move in, strike or set building!) Total Fall Points: 28 points Winter Play: Supporting Role 20 points 1 Day of Set Building 3 points Pay to Play turned in by due date 2 points Total Winter Points: 38 Points Spring Musical: Stage Crew 15 points 2 Days of set building 6 points Tear Down 5 points Pod/ Costume Organizing Day 3 points Total Spring Points: 34 Points YEAR TOTAL: 100 points this student would receive a Varsity Letter * As you can see, it is important to be involved in set building, move in and strike and other extra activities to earn points even if you are unable to participate in that show due to another activity or Sport.

To receive a letter, you must show complete dedication!
