The potential HTI Tutor must complete this HTI application form and attach all relevant teaching certificates, qualifications as well as references. These must be scanned and ed or posted to HTI. Profile: Successful applicants will be required to commence their own personalised Tutor s profile. This profile contains background information of you as a TEFL tutor, your qualifications, experience, interests and hobbies and family. Images of your home, yourself, your family, the client s bedroom, bathroom and your local area must be included on this profile. High resolutions images will need to be provided to HTI during the recruitment process. Interview and Inspection of Your Home: This is the final step of the recruitment process where HTI Management will decide if you and your home are suitable for this programme. It gives you the opportunity to highlight your key skill areas in TEFL teaching and local amenities in your area. Further images may be taken at this time to enhance your profile. DUTIES: Successful Tutors will be required to carry out the following duties: QUALITY TUITION: Syllabus preparation: Based on information provided to you from HTI, including but not excluding the language level of the client, age, profession, interests and hobbies and General or Business English needs analysis, tutors are expected to prepare and design a syllabus to suit the client s language requirements for the duration of their stay. This syllabus must follow a certain format which is set out by HTI based on the Irish Department of Education and Skills and British Council recommendations.
Tuition Hours: Clients book 15, 20, 25 or 30 hours one-to-one lessons per week of their stay. Lessons should commence in the morning time between and A suggested timetable is give to HTI tutors and should be followed as closely as possible. With young learners tutors are allowed to be more flexible as it will depend on each own individual s learning and concentration levels. Business clients usually book 15 to 20 hours per week (4 to 5 hours per day) so you will find lessons taking place in the afternoons as well. Diagnostic Assessment: Following a diagnostic assessment on the first morning (reviewing the client s placement test, needs analysis and client s oral skills) the tutor must plan the client s personal objectives for the week. These must be recorded on a daily basis on the client s lesson plan sheet. Lesson planning: Tutors are required to prepare weekly lesson plans incorporating each aspect of language learning to cover the above mentioned syllabus- listening, reading, writing, speaking and grammar. Learners like to place a strong emphasis on spoken English. These lesson plans must be discussed with the client at the beginning of each week of study and may be altered once a diagnostic assessment takes place. They must be forwarded to HTI at the end of the client s stay with the client s signature. Resources: Tutors are expected to source their own language teaching materials for use in their lessons. Tutors will be guided and advised by HTI on standard texts, grammar materials and on-line language materials. Tutors will be invited to the HTI Tutors forum on-line where they are encouraged to express and share their own teaching resources and recommended teaching methodologies. On-going feedback: HTI Tutors must at all times keep HTI up to date with language improvements of HTI clients and will be requested to submit feedback at the end of week one and then again at the end of their stay. A HTI Representative will be in touch with the client in week 1 also to get some initial feedback from them. Course report: At the end of a client s stay the Tutor must provide HTI with a full course report of the client illustrating in full the syllabus covered, teaching resources used, progress made and recommendations for future study. The Tutor must include a copy of all signed lesson plans. Final examination: On the final day of tuition the Tutor must carry out a final level test, the result of which must be written on the HTI certificate of study and presented to the client. The Tutor must include this final result in the client s course report. QUALITY ACCOMMODATION: Full board accommodation must be provided to the client in a clean, warm, relaxing, safe and welcoming setting. Meals time are especially important and at all times meals must be eaten together with the family at the family table. This is something that is specifically requested by international clients choosing the HTI programme. Clients must be given a varied and balanced diet full of fresh vegetables, meat, chicken, fish, fruit, yoghurts, cheese, bread etc. Please note adult clients sometimes like to prepare a meal for their Tutors and family as a way of showing their appreciation for your service and it is welcomed by HTI if this request can be accommodated.
Client s own room: Tutors must provide clients with their own bright, clean, warm and comfortable bedroom equipped with sufficient wardrobe space, study area and clean linen, including towels. Clients should have access to washing facilities on a weekly basis and must also be supplied with clean bed linen and towels on a bi-weekly basis. Private bathroom: It is an advantage to Tutors especially those specialising in Business English to have a private bathroom available for the sole use of the client. Additional remuneration is given to Tutors when a client specifically requests a private bathroom. Sole international client: It is absolutely imperative that no other international client is staying at your house at the same time unless by special arrangement with Home Tuition Ireland i.e. parent or child accompanying the clients. The Home Tuition Programme is a total immersion programme and the client expects to have the Tutor s full attention during their stay. In some situations, 2 clients who know each other, and who are at the same level, may request to come together at the same time for the 2:1 programme. This will be discussed with you when it arises. Meal times: As mentioned above this is an important element of the programme and where at all possible meals should be conducted in a welcoming social setting for all meals of the day with other members of the family at the kitchen table. Internet: Clients will more than likely request access to the internet during their stay. In some instance clients will bring their own laptop. Tutors are asked to monitor the internet usage of junior clients and to agree a certain limited time they can use the internet so that it does not interfere with family life or keep the client isolated from the family. Household Insurance: Tutors must disclose that they have paying guests staying in their home to their house insurance company so that they can be covered under public liability in case of any accidents occurring. It is up to each individual insurance company what the additional premium would be to cover this. Garda Vetting: It is imperative that all adults over 18 living in your home have been Garda Vetted. Please inform HTI if you require a Garda Vetting form in order to complete this procedure. If you are waiting for your application to be processed a declaration must be signed that neither you, nor any other person in your household, have been convicted of any form of physical or emotional abuse towards another person and that nobody in your household holds a criminal conviction against the Child Care Act QUALITY IMMERSION: Activities and excursions-you must organise two activities and one full day excursion per week for the client. These excursions can include visits to local heritage sites like castles and museums but should also incorporate each individual client s interests. These must be discussed with the client and clearly marked on the client s weekly lesson plan. Family immersion: At all times the client must be fully integrated in to the day to day of family life- going shopping, helping with the preparation of meals, visiting friends and family, walking the dog etc. It can be in these informal settings that the client really relaxes and learns English in a fun way. Your guest cannot be expected to do any housework or child minding.
Supervision- For clients under 18, a responsible adult must always be present at all times when the client is in the house. The client must not be left alone in your home. Clients under the age of 16 are not allowed to leave the home unless accompanied by an adult. Clients aged 16 and over are allowed to leave the home to meet friends if parental consent has been given at the time of enrolment with. If the clients requests to do anything outside of what has been agreed with HTI you must inform HTI to seek parental consent from their parents. Car insurance: Tutors must disclose to their car insurance company if they are giving lifts to the client during their stay here. As with the household insurance it is up to each individual insurance company to determine if there is an additional premium or not. END OF COURSE: At the end of a client s stay the Tutor must furnish HTI with the client s signed lessons plan, course report, client s feedback, tutor s feedback and their invoice for payment of their services. Please read below for more details of payment: CODE OF CONDUCT: Code of Conduct of Client: The client is required to abide by the rules of the family home. If any problems arise such as alcohol or drug abuse must be informed immediately and disciplinary procedures such as expulsion from the home will follow. Parents of junior international clients are aware that if their child breaks this rule they will be sent home at the parent s expense. Inappropriate Behavior by Client: If the client is involved in any inappropriate behavior, must be informed immediately and action will be taken to remove the client from your home. Code of Conduct of Tutor and Family: Tutors and their family members are expected to behave in a professional manner at all times. They should remain kind, courteous and respectful at all time. The clients in your home are clients of HTI and have been recruited by language travel partners in their respective country. They come from a variety of cultures and religions which must be respected. An enormous amount of time and effort has been put into client recruitment and promotion of the programmes at industry level. HTI strives to be an industry leader with a very strong emphasis on quality, delivery and personal attention. Under no circumstances should Tutors discuss fees, make direct offers or enter into discussions with agents about future bookings. If a client requests to return to you in the future this can be arranged through HTI. Inappropriate Behavior by Tutor or Family Member: If it comes to the attention of HTI that a Tutor or family member have behaved inappropriately toward a HTI client the client will be removed from the home immediately and the relevant authorities will be notified. PAYMENT PROCEDURE: The rates as outlined on the HTI 2012 Rate Cards are based on a 7 night stay, arrival and departure on a Sunday. Clients book 7, 14, 21 or 28 day stays, the average being 14.
These rates are the gross amounts paid to each tutor. At the end of the tax year it is up to each tutor to file their own taxes. HTI is obliged to inform the Revenue Commissioner any tutors who earn in excess of the minimum tax free threshold, approximately The tutor must invoice HTI for the services they provide to HTI. This invoice must include the client s name, the total number of hours taught, the total number of weeks accommodation, activities, travel allowances for collection or drop off and check-in at the airport and any extras requested by HTI prior to arrival eg. private bathroom, accompanying adult. Payment will be made on the Friday AFTER the client departs granted that all documents and invoice have been received by HTI. Payment is made by on-line transfer. Please allow up to 3 working days for the transfer to appear on your account. CLIENT BOOKINGS: Tutors should be aware that high season for is July and August. However business clients can come at different times throughout the year and some junior clients come during the mid-term breaks. It is good to mention all times of the year that you are available to take a Home Tuition Ireland client whether it s February mid-term, Easter, summer, October mid-term, Christmas or other. HTI cannot guarantee each tutor that they will have a continuous supply of clients. When a client requests a certain location or certain type of tutor, HTI contacts suitable tutors to check their availability. HTI request that Tutors only commit if they are 100% certain that they will be able to provide the service for the dates requested. If available, HTI asks them to reserve their dates for at least 48 hours while presenting their profile to the potential client. Once confirmed by the client, HTI will re-contact the HTI Tutor who then must reserve those dates for the HTI client. If a HTI Tutor s circumstances change outside of their control, they must inform HTI at their earliest convenience especially if they are clients reserved to come to their home. Thank you for your time to reading through this Job Description. I wish you success with your application and I look forward to bringing you on board.
