12 . 12 GIC AIT 15-Year History of JAXA s Capacity Building Activities in cooperation with GIC-AIT 1. For last 15 years starting from April 1995, JAXA has been entrusting a responsibility to the Geo- Informatics Center, Asian Institute of Technology (GIC-AIT) to carry out various training programs mainly focusing on RS and GIS development of the Asia-Pacific nations. Number of Trainees (JFY1995 ~ 2008) : More than 1200 from 27 countries 2. The contents of the training programs have sometimes changed by the needs of the times, and now we concentrate on the Mini-Projects which is a problem-solving type of training. 12

13 Scenes from JFY2007 Mini-Projects 13 13

14 JFY2008 Mini-Project Selection-Results 1. During April and June 2008, JAXA and GIC-AIT received 33 proposals from 62 organizations of 14 Asian countries through their websites. (Case of JFY2007: 28 proposals from 49 organizations of 13 Asian countries.) 2.In August 2008, JAXA finally selected 11 proposals as its 2008 Mini-Projects based on technical evaluation made by GIC-AIT. 3. The first stage of the JFY2008 Mini-Projects successfully completed at GIC-AIT (3 weeks from September 22 to Oct.10.) 14 14
