1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Accountable to: Report to: Responsible for: Key working relationships: Managing Director Our Health Partnership (OHP) Board Chair of OHP Board Director of Operations, Head of Finance Chair, Managing Partners, Managing Director, Director of Operations, Partners and Practice Managers across OHP, colleagues in Clinical Commissioning Groups and NHS Locality Team Job Summary The Managing Director (MD) is the senior of three Officers of OHP and a member of the Board. The post holder is responsible for managing the Officer team and ensuring the OHP Board receives comprehensive management support. Key early tasks will be to oversee the establishment of OHP as a new organisation, including the implementation of a safe, appropriate and robust governance infrastructure. The Managing Director will lead on the development of a strategic plan for OHP, and be responsible for building effective working relationships with key stakeholders in the local health economy, including CrossCity CCG, NHS Trusts, and the local authority. The MD will be responsible for managing the reputation of OHP, and will oversee the Communications and media management functions. As a partnership, all Officers account to, and are (non-voting) members of, the OHP Board, which comprises 7 elected Managing Partners and 3 Officers. The managing Director will line manage to Director of Operations and Head of Finance. The post holder will be expected to provide high level advice and guidance to the Board in order that it can effectively carry out it s function, and to manage the agenda and meetings in a timely and effective manner. As a Board member, the Managing Director will hold corporate responsibility for decisions taken by the Board.

2 Main duties and responsibilities Development of the business plan The post holder will lead the development and implementation of the business plan, working with the Director of Operations and Head of Finance, to ensure the clinical, operational and financial sustainability of the organisation. This strategy will need to be aligned with the primary care strategy developed by the CCG. The MD should ensure that, as a very large GP partnership, OHP is able to influence strategic decisions in the locality in a constructive manner. Stakeholder and partners The MD will be responsible for building constructive links with key stakeholders, to include commissioners and NHS England, local authority, local NHS Trusts including community, mental health and acute, and other large GP organisations. Provision of information to the Board The MD will be responsible, with the Chair, for ensuring the Board agenda is appropriate and is fully supported by the provision of timely and accurate information to inform decision making. Strategic business development To develop and agree a growth and development strategy for OHP, to include both development of general practice, and the wider development towards a Multispecialty Community Provider and/or Accountable Care Organisation. Following this, to oversee the implementation of the strategy, ensuring that OHP has the resource and capability to progress as the Board determines. To research and source external funding for development initiatives, to support the steady growth of the organisation Communications and reputation management To advise the Chair and Board on these matters, and to handle day to day any issues arising. At all times the Chair must be kept appraised of issues arising and actions taken, in between Board meetings if necessary. In addition to reactive media management, to ensure OHP develops a sound and credible reputation and positions itself as a respected pioneers of GP service development in the NHS. This will involve thought leadership work at national and local levels. Organisational Development To manage the cycle of Board elections, and to ensure the continuous development of the OHP Board as a corporate body. To ensure the organisation stays true to it s founding principles of promoting high quality and effective general practice that is underpinned by a locally autonomous, partner-based approach.. To actively promote the OHP Mission and Values.

3 To be a key team member of the Officer Team with shared responsibility for the continuous and effective leadership and management of the organisation. Contribute to the maintenance of constructive and fruitful working relationships with all members of the Board and wider team, to foster a strong culture of partnership working. Personal Development The post holder will be aware of their development needs and take appropriate action to maintain levels of competence, capability and leadership capacity. A record of continuous professional development should be maintained Appraisal Annual appraisal will be by the Chair of the Board, who will seek input from all other Board colleagues. The process will include a review of the past year s performance, objective setting for the coming year and identification of development needs. Fit & Proper Person Requirements As an Officer of OHP you must comply with the NHS Fit and Proper Person requirements, as detailed by the Care Quality Commission. At each annual appraisal, you will be required to make a declaration to confirm you meet these requirements Other duties and responsibilities As a Director of OHP, you may be asked by the Board to undertake duties that have not been described here, if the need arises. This will be on an exceptional basis only

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Managing Director, Our Health Partnership Education and qualifications Experience and knowledge Skills and abilities Essential criteria Educated to degree level or equivalent Postgraduate qualification Evidence of continuing professional development Significant experience in financial management in a complex and challenging environment at Board level Demonstrable delivery of goals through leadership at high level Business planning and standard setting Proven ability to translate strategic goals into effective operational plans Good understanding of the healthcare context Proven ability to deliver agreed targets and standards Experience in media handling and reputation management Comprehensive understanding of the NHS financial and operating environment, and the particular issues facing a GP partnership Ability to lead and motivate administrative, managerial and clinical staff Desirable criteria Masters or higher degree Proven successful delivery in a public sector, healthcare or primary care setting Experience of managing in a start up organisation Senior level clinical leadership experience Experience as a Chief Executive or accountable officer Involvement in policy work at national level National profile in thought leadership Roles, positions or experience that will help build OHP s position in the local health system
