Martin Winter, Chair ICCA AP Chapter thanked all members for attending the meeting which is held in-conjunction with the 49 th ICCA Congress in Hyderabad. b. The meeting invited Leigh Harry, outgoing ICCA President to address the delegates. Leigh in his speech mentioned that Europe is still the fastest growing region as far as the international meetings is concerned but he believes that if Asia Pacific members create industry grouping, we would be able to grow the industry in this region in a positive manner. He thanked Noor for the job well done for the region and welcomed Martin Winter to the ICCA Board of Directors, representing the Asia Pacific region. c. The Chair thanked Leigh for his enormous contribution to ICCA and in particular the Asia Pacific members. The meeting presented a gift to Leigh in appreciation of his contributions. d. The Chair then introduced Patrick Chen who was elected in August 2010 as the new Deputy Chair/Treasurer. Patrick and all the other executive committee members will serve the Chapter until May e. The Chair informed the meeting that another national committee was formed on 21 September 2010 which was the ICCA China Committee and he extended best wishes to the China PR members. 2. Confirmation of minutes ICCA AP Chapter Meeting at IMEX Frankfurt on 24 May 2010 The minutes of ICCA AP Chapter Meeting were passed without any objections. 3. Report on ICCA AP Chapter Fund as at 30 September 2010 Current account MYR 21, (EURO 4,227) Fixed deposit MYR 18, (EURO 3,737) Total MYR 40, (EURO 7,964) The meeting take note that the Chapter fund is allocated for the production costs of ICCA AP Chapter website (if the cost is more than the special budget allocated by the ICCA BOD). 4. ICCA Asia Pacific Update By Noor Ahmad Hamid, ICCA Regional Director Asia Pacific a. Noor updated the meeting on the latest number of ICCA members worldwide by region: Europe 572 Asia Pacific 167 North America 88 Africa/Middle East 72 Latin America 58 Total _957 b. 3 d. Update on ICCA Asia Pacific Regional Office: Ms. Margaret Lu has been appointed as Membership Development Executive effective 1 October e. Mr. Akapol Surasuchart, President of Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) talked about challenges they are facing caused by the political turmoil. He assured the delegates that TCEB together is working closely with their private sectors to ensure a safe environment for meeting in Thailand, in line with their campaign Believe in Thailand. One of the initiatives to bring back business to Thailand is through regional cooperation such as the IMTGT, where Thailand could become the gateway to other ASEAN countries. Akapol also indicated that the Thai Government is emphasising on MICE to revive their economy and they are working very hard to generate positive media reports. He also informed the meeting that the Thai Government is bidding for World Expo 2020, this is to illustrate that they are serious for business. Finally, Akapol thanked ICCA AP Chapter for giving him the opportunity to share with the delegates on the latest status of his destination. b. Ms. Monimita Sarkar, Co-Chairman Local Hosts Committee - India welcomed all delegates to the 49 th ICCA Congress in Hyderabad, India. She is pleased to 3

4 see a record attendance of 201 delegates from the Asia Pacific region to this Congress. She hoped that all delegates would be able to witness in particular the development of Hyderabad, with the new airport, infrastructures, new IT City Cyberabad and also state of the art convention center, HICC. India is experiencing pulsating economy which has taken the world by surprise and she hoped that more international meeting will come to India. Monimita also thanked ICCA AP Chapter for giving her the opportunity to speak at the meeting and she hoped everyone enjoyed the Congress and take time out to visit other parts of India. The Chair recorded his appreciation to Akapol and Monimita for their presentation at the ICCA AP Chapter meeting. 7. ICCA Members Pay Tribute to the Late Ghulam Naqsband The Chair requested the meeting to pay tribute to the passing of Ghulam Naqshband with a minute of silence. Ghulam was ICCA Honorary Member from Le Passage to India. He was doyen to the Indian meetings business, industry pioneer and great friend to ICCA, and he passed away on 5 March 2010 in New Delhi at the venerable age of 86, having been actively working on projects until the last. 8. Other Matters a. Capt. Swadesh Kumar, Shikar Travels, India Capt. Swadesh asked the meeting what initiatives were taken by the Chapter to address the young generations. The Chair responded that the ICCA Forum for Young Professionals held at AIME which is managed by Elizabeth Rich is one example of how ICCA reaches the younger generation. Through such educational programme, ICCA members were invited as speakers to share their experiences and contribute back to the Gen Y. He also hoped that national committees will continue to provide and generate educational programmes for the young people of their respective nations. b. Rohit Ahuja, Lavasa International Convention Centre, India Rohit enquired why ICCA is losing members in Indonesia and Japan. The Chair responded that one of the major reasons for resignation is the economic downturn. In this regard, ICCA AP Office is working on programmes to present ICCA in these destinations. As for Japan, an educational seminar is already planned for February While for Indonesia ICCA will be going in with the support of the Jakarta Convention & Exhibition Bureau. c. Capt. Swadesh Kumar, Shikar Travels, India Capt. Swadesh suggested that ICCA AP Chapter organised a Chapter activity that could bring all members together. The Chair responded that it is not easy to have an activity that could bring all the members together especially that the Asia Pacific is a large area. However, one of the initiatives by the Chapter which is the Client Supplier 4

5 Business Workshop which will be held in Taipei in March 2011 is expected to attract around participants who are focussed on business objectives. 9. Closing As there were no other matters arising, the Chair thanked all members who were present at this ICCA AP Chapter meeting in Hyderabad. He also extended his appreciation to his fellow executive committee members, Patrick Chen and Jason Yeh, and as well to Noor for providing support to the Chapter. The meeting take note that the next ICCA AP Chapter Meeting which will be held in-conjunction with IMEX Frankfurt is set for 21 st May Notice of meetings will be forwarded to all members accordingly.
