Plot Components Climax: the turning point, the most intense moment either mentally or in action Rising Action: the series of conflicts and crisis in the story that lead to the climax Falling

3 Plot: Conflict Conflict is the dramatic struggle between two forces in a story. Without conflict, there is no plot.

4 Types of Conflict The plot of most stories centers around conflict. There are two main kinds of conflict in stories. External- A struggle between a character and an outside force. Characters may face several types of outside forces. Internal- A struggle that takes place in a character s mind is called internal conflict.

6 Plot: Character vs. Character Conflict This type of conflict finds the main character in conflict with another character, human or not human.

17 Importance of Conflict Conflict is necessary to every story. In short stories, there is usually one major conflict. In longer stories, there can be several conflicts. Conflict adds excitement and suspense to a story. The conflict usually becomes clear in the beginning of a story. As the plot unfolds, the reader starts to wonder what will happen next and how the characters will handle the situation. Many readers enjoy trying to predict the final outcome. The excitement usually builds to the climax when something has happened to resolve the conflict.
