WORKSHOP Combining AutoCAD & Sketchup Model from a plan, present in 3d 1 Introduction The following is a step by step tutorial outlining an integrated approach to using AutoCAD plans to develop SketchUp models. Perspectives and other views can then be easily generated in the SketchUp model and exported for use back in AutoCAD or exported into Layout for presentation. As you proceed with this tutorial you will develop a workflow that will enable you to quickly develop models and maintain graphic consistency for all your presentations. Throughout this project you will review and learn the following: Exporting streamlined AutoCAD drawings, importing into SketchUp Organizing the SketchUp model, developing the model Story boarding for presentation, Styles, Layer control, Shadow settings Camera setup, Scenes, Exporting images from Sketchup Importing back into AutoCAD for presentation in layouts Publishing from AutoCAD Important Note: The objective of this presentation is to augment a preliminary 2D floor plan with some basic 3D perspectives. This will serve as a visualization tool for design and space planning considerations. Use the following screen shots as guides. You can adjust settings as needed. This outline is provided to assist you in the overall understanding of cross-application integration.

2 Model from a plan, present in 3d WORKSHOP AutoCAD & SketchUp Starting the Model Objective: Export base plan from AutoCAD and import into SketchUp. Use imported drawing as component for reference underlay. Develop walls, add doors, windows, and furnishings. Complete the model by applying materials The Office Space presentation will combine the Autocad 2D layouts and Sketchup perspective images. The illustrative floor plan will show the model as shaded with textures including furnishings and fixtures. The perspectives will include at least one shaded with textures view of each of the main rooms in the office for a minimum of six images. The final output will be a six sheet set in PDF format: 1) Floor plan 2) Furniture plan 3) Electrical plan 4) Lighting plan 5) Illustrative Floor plan and 6) Perspectives. The sheet size is 11x17 and the scale for the plans is 3/16 =1-0 WBLOCK: WBLOCK to select and save the drawing information into a separate AuoCAD file. This will preserve the original file and provide you with a streamlined file with minimal lines and layers. Choose the project folder as the destination folder and use a simple file name. In AutoCAD, setup your Office Space plan model by freezing unnecessary layers or using the furniture plan layout. From the layout model space use the command

WORKSHOP AutoCAD & Sketchup Model from a plan, present in 3d 3 Importing the Drawing into SketchUp Open a new file in SketchUp. Use FILE: import. Change the file type to DWG and browse for the file created in the previous step. Before opening, click on the options button. Check all the boxes and use Model units for the import. Once the import is complete click OK on the results box. Organize the Model: Open the layers palette and notice the layers that have been added to the model with the import. Select all the line work then right click over the selection and choose make component. Name the component plan reference and select replace selection with component. As a component, all the imported line work will remain as one object and not interfere with your model. You will now create a layer called $xref, select the component and use the drop down layer tool bar to place the component on the new layer. You are now ready to use the imported AutoCAD information as an underlay. You can control its visibility by turning off or on the & xref layer. Note by adding a symbol to the layer name you can keep it at the top of the layer list by clicking on the name tab of the layers palette to arrange the layers in descending order.

4 Model from a plan, present in 3d WORKSHOP AutoCAD & SketchUp Make the walls Make the wall layer current by selecting the radio button next to the layer name. Use the rectangle and pencil tools to trace the walls. Start by drawing a rectangle around the outside line of the exterior walls. Then use the pencil tool to trace the inside lines of all the walls. Make complete closed areas. Do not leave openings at doors or windows. Once you have traced all the walls, turn off the xref layer to see that all lines are closed. Use the push/pull tool to lift the walls. The floor will remain as the flat surface below as the walls are extruded up. As you pull up type 10 to set the wall height. Use numeric entries for accurate dimensions by simply typing- note how the VCB (value control box) at the bottom right of the screen displays the input.

WORKSHOP AutoCAD & Sketchup Model from a plan, present in 3d 5 Next add the windows Turn back on the xref layer, and set the display to x-ray. This will allow you to see the plan drawing information through the walls and act as an underlay as you draw. Next, navigate to an overhead view of the upper left corner of the office space. Make sure the wall layer is still current. Use the tape measure tool to click on the inside edge of the exterior wall, drag the mouse along the red axis- use shift to constrain the tape measure to the axis, then click on the intersection of the opening of the window in the plan drawing. This will establish one side of the window opening. Now click on the newly created guide line to set another one at the other side of the window opening in the same way as before. Establish the top of the window opening by clicking on the bottom edge of the wall and constraining the tape measure up along the blue axis, type 6-8. Now make the A-Glaz or window layer current. Open the components palette and select a window. Place the window on the wall at the bottom left intersection of your guides. Use the scale tool to resize your window to fit the desired dimensions. Use the middle grips to keep the scaling proportional and stretch to the guide lines.

6 Model from a plan, present in 3d WORKSHOP AutoCAD & SketchUp Since all windows are the same size and equally spaced you will array them along the wall. Start by selecting the window again and use the move tool. Press the control key and click on the bottom right corner of the window and drag to the other end of the wall to the same corner of the last window. Type /11 and this place eleven copies of the original window equally spaced between the two points selected. The windows are now set, but notice that you can not see through the wall as the windows only cut through one surface of the double surface walls. Turn off the A-Glaz or window layer, use the rectangle tool and draw a rectangle outlining the opening of the original window using the intersection of the guides. Double click on the surface to select it and the outline, select the move tool, press the control key, and copy the rectangle along the wall as you did the windows previously. Select the push/pull tool and click on the original rectangle pushing through to the other side to create the opening. Repeat this on the other rectangles. Turn back on the A-Glaz or window layer, remove the x-ray for display, and check that you can now see through the windows. Repeat these steps to add windows along the other exterior wall. Now add the doors Turn back on the xref layer, and set the display to x-ray. Next, navigate to an overhead view of one of the offices. Make sure the wall layer is current. Use the tape measure tool to click on the inside edge of the interior wall, drag the mouse along the red axis- use shift to constrain the tape measure to the axis, then click on the intersection of the opening of the door in the plan drawing. This will establish one side of the door opening. Now click on the newly created guide line to set another one at the other side of the door opening in the same

WORKSHOP AutoCAD & Sketchup Model from a plan, present in 3d 7 use the rectangle tool and draw a rectangle outlining the opening of the door using the intersection of the guides. Establish the top of the door opening by clicking on the bottom edge of the wall and constraining the tape measure up along the blue axis, type 6-8. desired dimensions. Use the middle grips to keep the scaling proportional and stretch to the guide lines. Since all doors are the same size but have different opening directions, you will select the newly inserted and modified door, press ctrl + c to copy, then ctrl + v to paste in the desired locations. To change the opening direction, select the door then right click over it and use flip along blue axis to flip the door to the opposite opening direction. Once a door is set notice that you can not see through the wall as the door only cuts through one surface of the double surface walls. Turn off the A-door or door layer, Turn back on the A-door or door layer, remove the x-ray for display, and check that you can now see through the door. Repeat these steps to add doors to the other rooms. Now make the A-door or door layer current. Open the components palette and select a door. Place the door on the wall at the bottom left intersection of your guides. Use the move tool to adjust the position and scale tool to resize your door to fit the

Open the components palette, go to Architecture, Interior_Furniture, and you will see folders for desks, seating, storage, and tables. position, rotation, and size of your components. Be sure that you drop the components directly onto the face of the floor by making sure that the cursor displays on face when inserting the components. Use the plan drawing as reference for the size and location of the different furniture types. Use the move/rotate/scale tools to adjust the Add color and materials to complete the model Change the appearance of the components by using the paint bucket to apply color and texture. If the material does not change immediately, you may have to edit the component by right clicking and choosing edit component before applying materials. Some components may have nested groups within components, and in that case you will have to go deeper into each component or group before you can select a surface and apply a texture to it. Change the appearance of the walls and floor to coordinate with the rest of the furniture. You may need to turn off the A-furn or furniture layer to preview your walls and floor. For now, we will omit the ceiling, and allow the sunlight above to light our interior space. Explore the display and shadow settings palettes to preview some of the preset styles with or without shadows and at different times of the day and year.

Model from a plan, present in 3d 9 WORKSHOP AutoCAD & Sketchup Preparing For Presentation Objective: Create perspective views of the model, save as scenes, then export as images for use in the AutoCAD layout presentation of the Office Space. VIEW: Remove axis and guide lines from the model view. This will remove clutter for easier viewing and navigation. Go to view and deselect guides and axis. the appearance of profiles and edges- don t be afraid to experiment. In model faces, choose from wire frame, black and white, shaded, shaded with textures, to monochromatic for the face display. Also, choose transparency to display the opacity of materials. Begin this part of the tutorial by going through all steps listed below first. This will prepare you for model setup, camera setup, and scene saving. STYLE PALETTE: The style palette controls the appearance of model edges, faces, backgrounds, watermarks, and model properties. STORY BOARDING: Plan a path through the model, noting key locations for perspective views. At this point if you have a print out of the plan, you can mark on the drawing possible locations where you would like to make a perspective. You want to try and see the floors, furniture, and walls in a balanced composition. Bear in mind what viewing height you will use and what the target height will be and note this on your printout- it will make the process of camera placement a lot easier. In model edges, use small values to control In backgrounds, set the background color to white and remove the sky and ground. To save a unique style, start by making changes to the display settings. Once you ve decided on the settings for edges, faces, and backgrounds go to the top of the palette and enter a new name such as draft-mode or presentation. Then click on create new style button. Switch to the select tab and

10 Model from a plan, present in 3d WORKSHOP AutoCAD & SketchUp look at the styles in the in the model tab and you should see your new named style listed. Create styles representing a draft and presentation view of the model. A draft view may be one in which transparency is off and faces are shaded in black and white. A presentation view will show transparency and faces shaded with textures. By having the two styles you can do all the setup in draft mode then switch to presentation, add shadows, then save the view as a scene. By working in draft mode you will use less system resources by not showing textures and transparency. For this model we are only using a few layers and do not have a lot of components or architecture. However, if we wanted more detail we might consider adding more layers and organizing the model so as to place things on certain layers and control the layer visibility to reduce the consumption of system resources. When setting up the scenes then, we need to make sure that all the necessary layers for the particular scene we are about to save are on. For example, we can create a number of furniture layers for each room, placing the respective furniture on the respective layer. Then as we set up for the conference room, for example, we can make sure that all other furniture layers are off except for the conference room furniture layer which holds the furniture we want to show for the conference room. As your models increase in complexity, organization will become critical. Layers and components are fundamental to good model organization and efficiency. SHADOW SETTINGS: The shadow settings palette will control the lighting for the model based on the time, date, and location of the model. For this presentation try using a mid day time and a summer date. For Light and Dark settings, use 100 for Light and 60 for Dark. Check Use sun for shading and check on on faces and off on ground. To see the shadows check display shadows. Keep in mind that using shadows (transparency) consumes system resources, so turn them off while navigating or setting your cameras. Turn the shadows on only when previewing for your final view before saving the scene. You can also change the settings to have different light effects or to represent different times of the day or year. If you save the scene, the settings for shadows will also be saved. This way, you can have multiple scenes with different shadow settings. LAYERS:

WORKSHOP AutoCAD & Sketchup Model from a plan, present in 3d 11 CAMERA SETUP: To save scenes you will need to position camera views, set layers, display settings, and shadow settings. Start by selecting a standard top view. Switch to your draft mode display setting, making sure shadows are off. your view, then let go. The view will change to show the new camera view. Notice in the VCB the eye height. Type in 5 and watch the view adjust. Go to CAMERA: field of view, type 55 or up to 75. Use the zoom tool to adjust the field of view. If you need to adjust, turn off shadows and switch to draft mode, and make your adjustments. Return to the presentation display style with shadows once you have finished adjusting your camera view. You are now ready to save your camera view as a scene. Use CAMERA: perspective to adjust the type of view. Use the position camera tool, then click-hold and drag from the place where you will be viewing to the target of Fine tune the view by using the look around tool. If you need to start over repeat the previous steps by starting again with a top view. Once you have settled on your camera view, switch to your presentation display setting, turn on shadows, and check your layers. SCENES Open the scene palette and fully expand the box. Make sure all boxes are checked, this

12 Model from a plan, present in 3d WORKSHOP AutoCAD & SketchUp way all your view, layer, display, and shadow settings will be saved with the scene. For each perspective you will setup a camera view, apply a display style, shadow setting, and layer setting. Once you are satisfied with the look of your perspective you will click on add scene. The scene will be saved with a generic name such as scene 1, scene 2, and so on. You can select the scene in the list, rename it, and also give it a description. For each perspective you will repeat the above steps until you have all the desired scenes. For this exercise you should have one overall plan view in parallel or perspective projection. Also, you will create at least six other views for each of the rooms in the Office Space. You will only need one view for both office 1 and 2. As you create scenes, you will see the scene tabs appear above the drawing area with the saved name. As you click on each scene, the drawing view will change to show you the scene as it was saved. Once you have created all your scenes you will ready to export them as images for inclusion in your presentation. Note: Scenes are important in keeping consistency when showing design development and when exporting views to keep the camera view consistent as well. EXPORTING Click on the first tab of the saved scenes above your sketch model window. Use FILE: Export, 2D graphic- this will bring up the export dialog box. Select an image file type to save in, such as PNG. You can use BMP, or TIF as well. Next click on options to open the options dialog box. Here you set the image size and select anti-alias rendering for smoothness. Since we are printing on tabloid size paper use at least 1500 width pixels, for lager sizes go larger. Keep in mind that this will increase the save time and file size. For the file name use the scene name or another short name to easily recognize the picture. Save to your project/images folders. Repeat the above steps as you select each of the scenes to be included in your presentation. Once you have exported all your images you can switch to AutoCAD and prepare for image import and layout. Note: You can also use Layout for presentations. In Layout you can import and edit the model views. Layout also provides you with a number of presentation templates. You can also publish your presentation in PDF format or to paper.

WORKSHOP AutoCAD & Sketchup Model from a plan, present in 3d 13 Layouts and Publishing For this exercise we will use AutoCAD to import the images and create layouts alongside our 2D layouts, and use publisher to produce both PDF files and hardcopy printouts. Open or switch to your AutoCAD Office Space drawing file. This is your original drawing file that contains all the model information for the architecture, furniture, electrical, and lighting presented in tabloid size layouts. We will be adding two new layouts by duplicating and renaming the seed layout. The images created in the previous step will then be imported in to the model space, then back in paper space they will be shown through view ports zoomed to each image. Importing In the Office Space drawing file, switch to model space and make layer 0 current. Use INSERT: Raster image to begin the the open button. Check the boxes for Specify on-screen for insertion point and scale. This will allow you to place the image with the cursor and stretch it on-screen. Click OK, then somewhere to side of the model line work click to place the image, then move the mouse to stretch the image. visible. Repeat these steps to import the remaining images. At this point it does not matter in which order you import the images. You will arrange and size them in the layouts using the view ports and zoom/pan tools. Once you have imported all the images, you will be ready to switch to paper space and create your layouts Layouts Switch from model space to paper space and select the seed layout. Remember this is your original tabloid size layout from which all other layouts were copied. Right click over the seed layout tab and choose move import. You will be prompted to select the image so browse to the project/images folders where you saved the images exported from Sketch- Up in the last step and select an image. The image dialog box will appear after clicking Since the images will not be shown to scale, just stretch it large enough that it becomes

14 Model from a plan, present in 3d WORKSHOP AutoCAD & SketchUp or copy. In the move or copy dialog box, Now turn on the view ports layer if it is not visible in the paper. Select the view port, right click and select display locked, no to unlock the view port. Adjust the view port to resize it within the paper leaving room for titles below. select the seed layout and check create a copy, then click OK. You will see a new tab seed layout (2) created next to the seed layout. This is an exact copy. 1/8 with Mtext to create a middle justified text block for your title. Show the project name, layout name, your name, and the school name. Select the new layout, then right click over the tab and select rename. Name it A5- Illustrative Floor Plan. This layout will show the top view perspective of the overall Office Space. Double click inside to active the model space and zoom extents to see the entire model. Zoom in on the top view perspective and use the zoom realtime and pan commands to get it centered in the view port. Double click outside of the viewport, crop the image by adjusting the view port again, and remove the information block from the bottom right corner. Use the following text sizes: 3/8, 1/4, and Repeat the above steps to create the A6- Perspectives layout. For this layout, however, you will use MVSETUP to create an array of view ports to use for each of the remaining perspectives.

WORKSHOP AutoCAD & Sketchup Model from a plan, present in 3d 15 In the newly created and rename A6-Perspectives layout, remove the information block and viewport. Type MVSETUP, then C and enter, then C and enter, then 3 and enter. You will then be prompted to define the bounding area for the array of view ports. Start in the bottom right and finish in the upper right. Keep in mind to leave room for the titles and space between the view ports and the paper margin. Once you define the bounding area you will need to specify the number of view ports in the X direction then in the Y direction- use 3 and 2. Next define the spacing in the X direction and the Y direction- use.125 and.35. This should give you enough room between the rows and columns of view ports. Double click inside each new viewport and use the zoom/pan tools to center each image within its respective viewport. Add the titles at the bottom- alternatively, you could copy paste the titles from the previous step and edit the text. Next add the captions for each view using 1/8 text. You are now ready to page setup and publish. Page setups Take one last look at all your layouts before doing the page setup. Make sure the layer settings for both the paper and model space are correct and that each layout is set to layout paper space. Be sure to freeze the viewport to hide the bounding box in the prints. Once you are sure everything is in the right place, continue with page setup. We will be creating two sets of output. One will be a hardcopy print out and the other will be a PDF set of files. To be sure the output is consistent it will be important to create a named page setup with all the correct settings. After previewing the initial settings, the page setup will be saved with a name. The settings will then be available and applicable to any layout. We will use the two saved page setups to then create two publishing lists. With publishing you will be able to create a list of file/layouts to print with a specific page setup. This list can then be saved for recall later. Publishing streamlines the document production process by reducing the chance of settings errors and makes printing of large document sets a fast and almost automatic process. Let s begin with the hardcopy page setup. Right click over any layout tab, select page
