Strategic areas: general 20 different strategic areas in this call, one is Security and emergency management Strategic initiatives should address: research that, in the long term, has the prerequisites to be of the highest international quality, research that can contribute towards fulfilling major needs and solving important problems in society, research in areas that have a connection to the Swedish business sector.
Strategic areas: security Research and innovation in the area are strongly promoted by a broad collaboration between academia and industry, the state, local authorities, county councils and the Swedish emergency services. Research to enhance emergency management and bolster security should tackle a broad spectrum of risks, threats, crises and disasters. Further requirements of the research are that: it should be sufficiently broad so that its results can meet overall sector needs from private as well as public activities it should relate to the systemic and organisational level as well as the individual level it should be clearly set in a global context. ww.securitylink.liu.se

Vision The vision of SECURITY-LINK is to build on existing pure and applied research to create a world leading and nationally unexcelled research center on security, infrastructure protection and emergency management. This includes broad collaborations with industry, the state, local authorities, county councils and the Swedish emergency services, where SECURITY-LINK becomes the leading national actor in this arena. SECURITY-LINK will contribute to increased safety and security for Swedish society and its citizens.
Goals Scientific excellence Cross-disciplinary and application-oriented research projects Broad engagement of business and society Successful commercialization processes
Short term goals After a five-year period, we expect that the SECURITY-LINK research program and other center activities will have resulted in: A unique cross-disciplinary crisis management and security research environment (at least four thematic studies completed). An enlarged cross-disciplinary doctoral program (at least 10 new Ph.D. students in the Forum Securitatis graduate school). A stable basic research platform for a strong participation in European and U.S. DHS security related projects (at least three projects in each research area, and at least four projects reflecting the combined strength of SECURITY-LINK). A national meeting point for collaboration and contacts with a wide spectrum of public end users (annual workshops and research seminars attract most of the public and industrial stakeholders). A stable platform for industrial collaboration (at least 10 new industrial collaborative projects have been initiated). Improved collaboration between LiU, FOI, KTH and Chalmers through adjunct professorships and directors of research.
Effects We expect the collaboration in the center to result in: A unique cross-disciplinary crisis management and security research environment. An enlarged trans-disciplinary Ph.D. candidate education. A leading European actor in interdisciplinary research and innovation on integrated sociotechnical security solutions. A stable basic research platform for strong participation in European and DHS security related projects. A national meeting point for collaboration and contacts with a wide spectrum of industries and public end users. A stable platform for industrial collaboration. Improved collaboration between the consortium members organizations through adjunct professors, etc. A center focused on the safety and security needs of a modern, enlightened society in a dynamic world.
Effects
Funding Strategy Background: FOI good at getting external funding, academic partners good at publications Key idea to leverage security research: FOI: add time for researchers to write papers Academic partners: post-doc positions to foster new research leaders Joint positions Resources (post-doc positions) to facilitate for researchers to write proposals: pro-active initiatives, writing and strategic proof reading, project coordination (EU),
Funding priorities Research excellence in one of the SECURITY-LINK research areas with an outspoken interest to disseminate the results to others. Participation in cross-disciplinary and applied research projects (e.g., contributions to CARER). Interest in undergraduate and graduate education as well as training and exercises in the area (e.g., contributions to Forum Securitatis). Interest in collaboration with industry and commercialization of results, as well as collaboration with other relevant organizations. Interest in supporting end users, such as practitioners in emergency & crisis response and the domain of security.
Industrial and Public Stakeholder Ref Group Participate in foresight and demand articulation workshops providing overall guidance to research areas. Participate in end user groups for specific research projects or research areas where the new possibilities from research can be presented and relevant needs will be allowed to affect the planning of the research. Formulate joint projects with industrial funding. Participate in regular open seminars and in education activities such as the Forum Securitatis graduate school. Co-supervise students. Formulate joint EU and other project initiatives. Participate in the annual center workshop.
