1 West Kent and Ashford College Job Description Lecturer in Plumbing 1. Responsible to: Team Leader 2. Purpose of the Job: To work as a member of a team to deliver a co-ordinated, integrated learning programme ensuring that students receive a high quality learning experience and achieve success. 3. Main Duties and Responsibilities: To teach Plumbing to a range of students of all abilities and ages. To teach one or more Functional Skills across the area as required. To prepare and deliver lectures and other associated learning materials in a professional and competent manner. To prepare Lesson Plans and Schemes of Work. Assess student work against Awarding Body Criteria and track student achievement. To prepare and mark assessments, projects, tests and examinations & develop tracking systems in accordance with the requirements of the course. Work as a course internal verifier as required. If required to perform in the role of Course Team Leader for specific programmes. Liaise with Awarding Bodies, meet with Internal & External Verifiers, and respond to their requests and requirements. To complete activities for the validation of courses as required. To keep abreast of current development in the policies, procedures and syllabuses of the professional and examining bodies relevant to the appropriate disciplines; To keep up to date in current developments in the Plumbing area, including attendance at conferences and course development forums when possible. To use SMART targets in order to complete academic reviews and support a learner s E-ILP.To actively support and work within the tutorial system to enhance the learning, achievement, success and retention of students.

2 Other duties: To keep such registers and records as are required by the College To write student references (for employment/ucas purposes) To participate proactively in student recruitment activities, including interviewing, participation in open days, induction sessions etc. To carry out all relevant administrative tasks, including effective registration of students and keeping of student records To attend staff team meetings and contribute to the on-going success of the departments in which you work. To attend staff development programmes to update knowledge and skills and such courses as are deemed appropriate by the College management team Ensure that equality of opportunity is promoted in all aspects of the post holder s work. Ensure effective quality control and continuous improvement in all aspects of this post, in keeping with the College s existing and developing quality assurance systems. Be committed to professional self-development, through participation in in-service training, as necessary for the successful carrying out of the job. Comply with and promote College health and Safety policies and procedures and to undertake recommend Health and Safety training as and when necessary. To ensure that data quality and integrity is maintained and that data is processed in accordance with College policy, the Data Protection Act, the Freedom of Information Act, and other legislation. Carry out duties flexibly and with the initiative necessary. To promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young persons and vulnerable adults of those you come into contact with. To carry out such other duties appropriate to the job and individual skills and experience as may be required by the Department and College Management Team.

FACTORS CRITERIA MEANS OF ASSESSMENT Qualifications Essential Teaching Qualification, e.g. DTTLS, PGCE, Certificate of Education or equivalent, or the desire to achieve; Level 3 vocational qualification in Plumbing, Heating and Gas; Level 2 or above in English (Literacy) and Maths (Numeracy) eg Adult Literacy, GCSE A-C; Assessors award, or the desire to achieve; Desirable Internal verifier qualification;
