Abut Smart Energy GB Between nw and 2020, every British hme will have the pprtunity t upgrade t a new gas and electricity smart meter at n extra cst. This will transfrm the way we all buy and use energy and pave the way t a smarter, mre energy efficient future. Smart Energy GB is the vice f the smart meter rllut. It s ur task t help everyne in Great Britain understand smart meters, the natinal rllut and hw t use their new meters t get gas and electricity under cntrl. Abut Smart Energy GB in Cmmunities Smart Energy GB in Cmmunities is a prgramme delivered by a cnsrtium f charities dedicated t ensuring that n ne is left behind in the rllut f smart meters. Fuel pverty charities Natinal Energy Actin and Energy Actin Sctland, leading cmmunicatins charity Media Trust, and Charities Aid Fundatin are wrking with Smart Energy GB t help infrm and inspire peple abut smart meters and the psitive changes that they can bring. Smart Energy GB in Cmmunities is prviding a range f advice and supprt including: funding fr rganisatins delivering prjects and activities that engage their cmmunities with the smart meter campaign a reginal prgramme f supprt including training, events, briefings and resurces marketing and cmmunicatins training The rle f Charities Aid Fundatin CAF is respnsible fr managing the funding delivered thrugh the Smart Energy GB in Cmmunities prgramme. With 45 years experience in delivering strategic grant-making prgrammes, CAF is uniquely placed t manage this activity, prviding partners with grants t supprt cmmunities acrss Great Britain in their smart meter jurney. What is a smart meter? Smart meters replace the traditinal meters (including prepay meters) we currently have in ur hmes. Smart meters shw the amunt f energy used in near real time and hw much is being spent in punds and pence, ultimately putting cntrl back int the hands f the cnsumer. They send autmatic meter readings directly and securely t the energy supplier, resulting in accurate bills and an end t estimated and manual meter readings. 3 The smart meter rllut is an essential technlgy upgrade, unprecedented in its scale, t imprve Great Britain s energy infrastructure. Mre than three millin smart meters have already been installed, and between nw and 2020 every husehld in England, Sctland and Wales will be ffered ne at n additinal cst. What are the benefits f smart meters? 1. An end t estimated bills Smart meters mean that yur bills will be accurate, nt estimated. Yu will n lnger need t have manual meter readings, r be faced with trying t wrk ut yur bill frm yur wn readings. Once yu have a smart meter, yu ll get accurate bills frm yur energy supplier, just as yu d with yur telephne bill. 2. Smart meters can help save yu mney With every smart meter yu are ffered an in-hme display. This digital device shws exactly hw much energy yu re using as yu use it, and tells yu in punds and pence exactly what it s csting yu. This means yu can wrk ut which appliances are guzzling the mst energy. Or shw the kids the difference it makes when they remember t turn the lights ff. 3. Switching will becme easier In the future, switching between suppliers, r between credit and prepay, will becme quicker and easier, as yu will have access t the infrmatin yu need t get the best deal. Energy suppliers will als be able t respnd quicker if yu have a pwer cut. 4. A smarter future Smart meters are paving the way fr a mre energy efficient future. They make it easier fr us t see when and where we re using a lt f energy and might want t make changes. They re als a crucial step twards the develpment f the smart grid, a whle new way f running ur energy netwrk. They mean that ur energy suppliers will be better equipped t plan and manage Great Britain s electricity and gas, and better match supply and demand. 4 In 2016, we are targeting funding and supprt t the fllwing pririty grups: District heating custmers (district heating is a system where a cmmunal surce f heat is shared with ther prperties) Lack f prficiency in English (r Welsh in Wales) Lacking basic digital skills Learning disability Lw literacy Memry impairment N persnal internet access Off-gas grid custmers Prepay custmers Private tenants Severe r prfund deafness Scial husing tenants Funding available T help rganisatins spread the wrd abut smart meters, funding will be made available ver the next five years. This is fr rganisatins wrking with ne r mre f ur pririty grups t increase awareness, take up, and use f smart meters. Our pririty grups are likely t change as the smart meter rllut prgresses s d lk at the latest guidance fr mre infrmatin. We are lking t fund rganisatins wh can deliver results against ne r mre f these utcmes: 1. raising awareness f smart meters and understanding their key benefits 2. increasing interest in getting a smart meter installed 3. mtivating peple t use their smart meter 4. educating peple n hw t get the mst benefit frm using their smart meter Why get invlved? We knw lcal grups have a key rle and relatinship with peple in their cmmunity, s they may cme t them with questins abut smart meters. Receiving funding means that as well as using ur resurces t answer yur cmmunity s questins, yu can deliver activities that spread the wrd and ensure n ne misses ut n the smart meter rllut.
