1 Fourth Grade First Six Weeks Instructional Plan Week 1 Interpret bar graphs Describe the relationship between data such as ordered pairs in a table Acrostic poems - write to express, discover, record, develop, reflect on ideas, and to problem solve Editing skills - capitalize and punctuate correctly to clarify and enhance meaning such as capitalizing titles, using possessives, commas in a series, commas in direct address, and sentence punctuation Types of sentences - applies standard grammar and usage to communicate clearly and effectively in writing. Unit 13 spelling Realistic fiction - recognize the distinguishing features of genres, including biography, historical fiction, informational texts, and poetry; read regularly in instructional-level materials that are challenging but manageable Character analysis - analyze characters, including their traits, motivations, conflicts, points of view, relationships, and changes they undergo Setting/plot - recognize and analyze story plot, setting, and problem resolution Map skills - apply geographic tools, including grid systems, legends, symbols, scales, and compass roses, to construct and interpret maps Longitude/latitude - apply geographic tools, including grid systems, legends, symbols, scales, and compass roses, to construct and interpret maps Skill reading elevation maps Vocabulary - use social studies terminology correctly Skill Identifying primary and secondary sources - differentiate between, locate, and use primary and secondary sources such as computer software; interviews; biographies; oral, print, and visual material; and artifacts to acquire information about the United States and Texas Major Rivers: Water cycle - identify the Sun as the major source of energy for the Earth and understand its role in the growth of plants, in the creation of winds, and in the water cycle

Cursive - write legibly by selecting cursive or manuscript as appropriate Unit 14 spelling Realistic fiction - - recognize the distinguishing features of genres, including biography, historical fiction, informational texts, and poetry; read regularly in instructional-level materials that are challenging but manageable Texas regions - describe a variety of regions in Texas and the Western Hemisphere such as political, population, and economic regions that result from patterns of human activity Skill Reading a region map Map skills - apply geographic tools, including grid systems, legends, symbols, scales, and compass roses, to construct and interpret maps Vocabulary - use social studies terminology correctly Major Rivers: identify the Sun as the major source of energy for the Earth and understand its role in the growth of plants, in the creation of winds, and in the water cycle Water supply Water distribution Water use/conservation Water cycle
