1 Recent Developments in Turkish Banking Sector İstanbul January, 2013
2 General View In the second half of 2012, a new bank joined to the sector, BRSA will likely give new banking licences, Total assets reached TL 1.3 trillion (USD 743 billion) as of November Number of branches and employees increases, The alternative channels (ATM, E-banking, mobile banking etc) are growing rapidly, NPL s increases, but their share in tota loans is 3 percent. Implementation of Basel II started, its effect on CAR is very limited. Reporting period of Basel III leverage ratio will start on January 2014 and maintenance period will start on April 2014 Basel III is expected to have a limited effect on Turkish banks. BAT applied to Ministry of Finance for an information exchange aggrement between Turkish and USA governments within FATCA. 1
