In this tutorial I'll explain how to draw 7 different types of dogs. It is great practice for muscle memory, line work, proportion and opening up your eyes to what you are really seeing from an artists viewpoint. the 7 dogs are: Golden Retriever, Basset Hound, Cocker Spaniel, Collie, English Bulldog, German Shepherd and Irish Setter. Hope you enjoy this tutorial.

3 Author: Step 1 Materials: 14 sheets of tracing paper 7 blank white index cards 3" x 5" Small Ruler Mechanical pencil 0.5mm lead Kneaded Eraser Please read step one fully, it is very important! For those who only wish to draw a certain dog, you will locate each dog as following: Golden Retriever - Step 2-18 Basset Hound - Step Cocker Spaniel - Step Collie - Step English bulldog - Step German Shepherd - Step Irish Setter - Step

4 Step 1. Take a 3x5 card and measure your distances as shown in accompanying picture.

5 Step 2 Draw in a rough shape of your dog.

6 Step 3 Draw in the grid for eyes, nose and mouth placement

7 Step 4 Now roughly draw in the eyes, nose and mouth into the grid.

8 Step 5 With a new sheet of paper covering your grid, draw in the eyes, nose and mouth.

9 Step 6 Now start drawing in the fur around left ear. Study the image for guidance.

10 Step 7 Keep drawing the fur around ear, image will guide you.

11 Step 8 Start drawing in the fur detail near left eye, use image to guide you.

12 Step 9 Keep filling in the fur on the left side of the face, image will guide you.

13 Step 10 Draw in the fur around the mouth and finish coloring nose in, image will guide you.

14 Step 11 Start drawing in the middle right of face, from mouth area to top of head. Image will guide you.

15 Step 12 Following drawing, add in more fur on right side of face.

16 Step 13 Start drawing in the right ear, image will guide you.

17 Step 14 Finish drawing on ear, image will guide you.

18 Step 15 Start drawing in the neck fur on left side of head, image will guide you.

19 Step 16 Draw in more neck fur, working your way to the right side of head. Image will guide you.

20 Step 17 Finish drawing in the neck fur, following image as guide.

21 Step 18 Your drawing should look like this. Congratulations, you did it!

22 Step 19 Take a new sheet of paper and draw in your rough drawing of dog head, using a 3x5 card, draw your measurements from finished drawing. Eyes, nose and mouth.

23 Step 20 Using you measurement card to draw in your grid on dog head, eyes, nose and mouth.

24 Step 21 Using grid, roughly draw in eyes, nose and mouth.

25 Step 22 With a new sheet of paper over grid, draw in eyes, nose and mouth.

26 Step 23 Start drawing in the fur, around left top of head, use image as guide.

27 Step 24 Continue to add fur to left ear and face, image will guide you.

28 Step 25 Draw in more fur on left ear, image will show you where to draw it in.

29 Step 26 Still fill in fur on the left rear, following image guide.

30 Step 27 Finish up drawing the fur on the left ear, using image as guide.

31 Step 28 Starting drawing in chin and filling in nose, image will guide you.

32 Step 29 Keep filling in fur on center of face, using image as your guide.

33 Step 30 Fill in the fur around the right eye, image will guide you.

34 Step 31 Fill in the fur on right side of face and right ear, using image to guide you.

35 Step 32 Finish drawing outside of ear, using image to guide you.

36 Step 33 Fill in some of the inner fur of the right ear, image will show you where.

37 Step 34 Finish the inner fur of right ear, image will guide you. You have just drawn a Basset Hound, well done!

38 Step 35 Now to draw the Cocker Spaniel, grab a new sheet of paper and a 3x5 card. lay out your measurements.

39 Step 36 Using your measurements, draw in your grid for eyes, nose and mouth.

40 Step 37 Roughly draw in the eyes, nose and mouth on grid.

41 Step 38 With a new sheet of paper and grid underneath it, draw the eyes, nose and mouth on the new paper.

42 Step 39 Start drawing the fur on left top of head, image will give you guidance.

43 Step 40 Draw in the left ear, using image to guide you.

44 Step 41 Draw in the curly fur into the left ear, use image as guide.

45 Step 42 Start drawing in the fur around the left eye and cheek, image will show you where.

46 Step 43 Start drawing in the fur on center and right side of face.

47 Step 44 Start filling in the hair around nose and mouth. image will guide you.

48 Step 45 Draw in the mouth and fur surrounding it, use image as guide.

49 Step 46 Draw in the neck, collar and part of right ear, image will show you where.

50 Step 47 finish up the right ear and you are done, image will guide you. Well done!

51 Step 48 Its now time to draw the Collie, get a new sheet of paper and 3x5 card, make your measurement guide for out grid in next step and do a rough draft of Collie head.

52 Step 49 Using your measurements, draw in the grid on the rough draft of Collie.

53 Step 50 Roughly draw in eyes, nose and mouth over grid.

54 Step 51 New sheet of paper placed over your grid, draw eyes, nos and mouth.

55 Step 52 Fill in the fur between the eyes and the nose, image will guide you.

56 Step 53 Draw in the surrounding facial fur, use image as a guide.

57 Step 54 Draw in the left top of head and left ear, image will guide you.

58 Step 55 Now start drawing in the ruff around the left side of head, image will guide you.

59 Step 56 Draw in the right ear, the ruff at the bottom of face and on right side, image will guide you.

60 Step 57 Draw in more of the ruff on the left side, image will guide you.

61 Step 58 Draw in the longer ruff on the left side, image will show you where.

62 Step 59 Draw in the longer ruff in the center and start it on the right side. Use image for guidance.

63 Step 60 Finish up the long ruff as image shows. You did it, you have now drawn a Collie!

64 Step 61 Now for the English Bulldog for my good friend Reaprevenge, a fellow Brit for him. Get a new sheet of paper and 3x5 card, make your measurements for the later grid. Make a rough outline of your bulldog.

65 Step 62 Using you measurement card. make the grid over your rough draft.

66 Step 63 Draw in the eyes, nose and mouth.

67 Step 64 With a new piece of paper covering your grid, draw in the eyes, nose and mouth.

68 Step 65 Start filling in fur around nose and eyes, image will guide you.

69 Step 66 Fill in the lines around the nose, covering the cheeks, image will guide you.

70 Step 67 Start drawing in the fur around the left eye. Image will guide you.

71 Step 68 Draw in the left ear, the crease on left side of forehead and top of head. image will give you guidance.

72 Step 69 Draw in the neck area and part of back on left side. Use image for guidance.

73 Step 70 Finish drawing in back, using image for reference.

74 Step 71 Draw in the right side of head and ear, image will show you where.

75 Step 72 Draw in the texture of the left side of the mouth, follow along with image.

76 Step 73 Draw in the texture on to the tongue, image will guide you.

77 Step 74 Draw in the texture for the right side of the mouth and start the middle neck, use image as your guide.

78 Step 75 Finish drawing in the neck on right side. YAY!!!! You did it! You drew a English Bulldog!

79 Step 76 Lets draw a German Shepherd now. Get a new sheet of paper and 3x5 card, make your measurements and make your rough draft of dog head.

80 Step 77 Draw you grid for eyes, nose and mouth using your measurement card.

81 Step 78 Draw a rough draft of eyes, nose and mouth in the grid.

82 Step 79 Place a new piece of paper over your grid and draw the eyes, nose and mouth.

83 Step 80 Draw in the fur lines around the left eye, image will show you where.

84 Step 81 Draw in the top of head and left ear, drawing will guide you.

85 Step 82 Draw in the fur on the left ear, image will show you where fur goes.

86 Step 83 Draw in more fur on left cheek and start filling in nose, image will guide you.

87 Step 84 Draw in the left side of the neck and the tongue, image will guide you.

88 Step 85 Shade in the tongue and lower part of nose, use image as guide.

89 Step 86 Shade in the right side of his mouth, use to guide you.

90 Step 87 Draw in hair on the forehead and around right eye.

91 Step 88 Draw in the right ear and side of face, use image as your guide.

92 Step 89 Draw the fur into the right ear, follow the image for guidance.

93 Step 90 Draw in the fur on the right cheek, image will guide you.

94 Step 91 Draw in the fur below the mouth area, image will show you where.

95 Step 92 Draw in the neck fur, working to the right side. Image will guide you.

96 Step 93 Finish the upper part of neck fur going to the right, image will show you where.

97 Step 94 Start drawing in the bottom ruff on the left side to middle, image will show you where.

98 Step 95 Finish up the ruff from middle to right, image will guide you. Well done, you have now drawn a German Shepherd!

99 Step 96 Take a new sheet of paper, give a rough shape of the head of an Irish Setter, then make your measurement card on the 3x5 card.

100 Step 97 Using your measurements, draw in you grid on you rough draft head.

101 Step 98 Roughly draw in the eyes, nose and mouth.

102 Step 99 Place a new piece of paper over the grid and draw in the eyes, nose and mouth.

103 Step 100 Draw in the texture around left eye, nose and fur on nose, image will show you where.

104 Step 101 Draw in the tongue and texture to lower mouth, image will guide you.

105 Step 102 Draw in lower jaw and neck fur on left side, follow the image provided for you.

106 Step 103 Draw in fur, working from left side of the neck, follow along with the image.

107 Step 104 Draw in the fur texture along cheek, right eye and forehead. image will guide you.

108 Step 105 Draw in the top of head, work your way down on left side of ear. Let image guide you.

109 Step 106 Finish up ear and add more texture to neck fur, working to the right, image will guide you.

110 Step 107 Finish up the fur on right side of the neck and you are all done. Way to go, You have just drawn a Irish Setter!!!
