1 ACOUSTICAL CEILINGS PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 STIPULATIONS A. The specifications sections General Conditions, Special Requirements, and General Requirements form a part of this section by this reference thereto and shall have the same force and effect as if printed herewith in full. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Extent of each type of acoustical ceiling is shown on the drawings. B. Type of acoustical ceilings specified in this section include the following: 1. Acoustical panel ceilings, exposed suspension system 1.3 SUBMITTALS A. Product Data: Submit manufacturers technical data for each type of acoustical ceiling unit and suspension system required. B. Samples of Initial Selection Purposes: Submit manufacturers standard size samples of acoustical units, but not less than 6" square, and of exposed ceiling suspension members including wall and special moldings. Provide samples showing full range of colors, textures and patterns available for each type of component required. C. Samples of Verification Purposes: Submit the following: 1. 12" square samples of each acoustical tile, type, pattern and color. 2. Set of 12" long samples of exposed runners and moldings for each color and system type required. D. Certificates: Submit certificates from manufacturers of acoustical ceiling units and suspension systems attesting that their products comply with specification requirements. 1.4 QUALITY CONTROL A. Fire Performance Characteristics: Provide acoustical ceiling components that are identical to those tested for the following fire performance characteristics, according to ASTM E119 test method by UL or other testing and inspecting agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction. Identify acoustical ceilings components with appropriate marking of applicable testing and inspecting agency. B. Surface Burning Characteristics: As follows, tested per ASTM E 84. C. Flame Spread: 25 or less Smoke Developed: 450 or less D. Coordination of Work: Coordinate layout and installation of acoustical ceiling units and suspension system components with other work supported by, or penetrating through, ceilings, Kitchen and Lounge Upgrades Section

2 including light fixtures, HVAC equipment, fire suppression system components (if any), and partition system (if any). E. Obtain all acoustical ceiling panels and supporting assemblies from one single source manufacturer. 1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A. Deliver acoustical ceiling units to project site in original, unopened packaged and store them in a fully enclosed space where they will be protected against damage from moisture, direct sunlight, surface contamination or other causes. B. Before installing acoustical ceiling units, permit them to reach room temperature and a stabilized moisture content. C. Handle acoustical ceiling units carefully to avoid chipping edges or damaging units in any way. 1.6 PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Space Enclosure: Do not install interior acoustical ceilings until space is enclosed and weatherproof, wet work in space is completed and nominally dry, work above ceilings is complete, and ambient conditions of temperature and humidity will be continuously maintained at values near those indicated for final occupancy. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 ACOUSTICAL CEILING UNITS, GENERAL A. Standard for Acoustical Ceiling Units: Provide manufacturers standard units of configuration indicated which are prepared for mounting method designated and which comply with FS SS-S- 118 requirements, including those indicated by reference to type, form, pattern, grade (NRC or NIC as applicable), light reflectance coefficient (LR), edge detail, and joint detail (if any). B. Sound Attenuation Performance: Provide acoustical ceiling units with ratings for ceiling sound transmission class (STC) of range indicated as determined according to AMA 1-II "Ceiling Sound Transmission Test by Two-Room Method" with ceilings continuous at partitions and supported by a metal suspension system of type appropriate for ceiling unit of configuration indicated (concealed for tile, exposed for panels). C. Color, Textures, and Patterns: provide products to match appearance characteristics indicated or, if not otherwise indicated, as selected by Professional from manufacturers standard colors, surface textures, and patterns available for acoustical ceiling units and exposed metal suspension system members of quality designated with hold-down clips and provide Fire Rated Ceiling tile, Fire rated Suspension System where indicated on the drawings. 2.2 ACOUSTICAL PANELS A. Locations and size and type of panels are shown on the drawings. B. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide one of the products indicated for each designation in the Acoustical Panel Ceiling Schedule at the end of Part 3. 3 2.3 FIRE RATED ASSEMBLIES A. Where fire rated ceiling assembly is called for, contractor shall veify that ceiling panels actually installed; comply with total assembly fire rating ( including floors, ceilings, structural support etc) per Underwriter Laboratories ( UL) fire rated assemblies. Submit UL number assembly with product intended to be used. 2.4 METAL SUSPENSION SYSTEMS, GENERAL A. Finishes and Colors: Provide manufacturers standard factory applied finish for type of system indicated. For exposed suspension members and accessories with painted white finish, B. Attachment Devices: Size for 5 times design load indicated in ASTM C 635, Table 1, Direct Hung. C. Concrete Inserts: Inserts formed from hot dipped galvanized sheet steel and designed for attachment to concrete forms and for embedment in concrete, with holes or loops for attachment at hanger wires. D. Hanger Wire: Galvanized carbon steel wire, ASTM A641, soft temper, prestretched, Class 1 coating, sized so that stress a 3 times hanger designload (ASTM C635, Table 1, Direct Hunt), will be less than yield stress of wire, but provide not less than 12 gage. E. Edge Moldings and Trim Metal or extruded plastic of types and profiles indicated or, if not indicated provide manufacturers standard molding for edges and penetrations of ceiling which fits with type of edge detail and suspension system indicated. Contractor shall use channel edge molding, angle edge molding is not permitted. F. For circular penetrations of ceiling, provide edge moldings fabricated to diameter required to fit penetration exactly. G. Hold Down Clips: Provide standard hold-down clips at locations indicated on the drawings. 2.5 EXPOSED METAL DIRECT HUNG SUSPENSION SYSTEMS A. Double Web Galvanized Steel Suspension System: Manufacturers standard system roll formed from prefinished cold rolled steel sheet with 15/16 wide exposed faces on structural members, other characteristics as follows: B. Duty: ASTM C635 Intermediate Duty ( Use same gauge metal for cross tees and mains) Space support wiring per manufacturer s recommendation for loading required but no less than spacing called out in Part 3 Execution section. ( wires shall be plumb and vertical unless noted otherwise). Provide additional support wires for support of mechanical devices and items laid in grid. C. Finish: Painted in color as selected by Professional, from manufacturers standard. D. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products of one of the following: 1. 4 PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 PREPARATION A. Coordination: Furnish layouts for inserts, clips, or other supports required to be installed by other trades for support of acoustical ceilings. B. Furnish concrete inserts and similar devices to other trades for installation well in advance of time needed for coordination of other work. C. Measure each ceiling area and establish layout of acoustical units to balance border widths at opposite edges of each ceiling. 3.2 INSTALLATION A. General: Install materials in accordance with manufacturers printed instructions, and to comply with governing regulations, fire resistance rating requirements as indicated, and CISCA standards applicable to work. B. Install tile with pattern running in one direction. C. Install suspension systems to comply with ASTM C 636, with hangers supported only from building structural members. Locate hangers not less than 6" from each end and spaced 4'-0" along each carrier or direct hung runner, unless otherwise indicated. Leveling to tolerance of 1/8" in 12'-0". D. Secure wire hangers by looping and wire tying, either directly to structures or to inserts, eye screws, or other devices which are secure and appropriate for substrate, and which will not deteriorate or fail with age or elevated temperatures. E. Install hangers plumb and free from contact with insulation or other objects within ceiling plenum which are not part of supporting structural or ceiling suspension system. Splay hangers only where required to miss obstructions and offset resulting horizontal force by bracing, countersplaying or other equally effective means. F. Install edge moldings of type indicated at perimeter of acoustical ceiling area and at locations where necessary to conceal edges of acoustical units. G. Screw attach moldings to substrate at intervals not over 16" o.c. and not more than 3" from ends, leveling with ceiling suspension system to tolerance of 1/8" in 12'-0". Miter corners accurately and connect securely. H. Install acoustical panels in coordination with suspension system, with edges concealed by support of suspension members. Scribe and cut panels to fit accurately at borders and at penetrations. 3.3 CLEANING A. Clean exposed surfaces of acoustical ceilings, including trim, edge moldings, and suspension members, comply with manufacturers instructions for cleaning and touch-up of minor finish damage. Remove and replace work which cannot be successfully cleaned and repaired to permanently eliminate evidence of damage. Kitchen and Lounge Upgrades Section
