You will be responsible for individually completing various tasks throughout this scavenger hunt. THIS IS A MAJOR GRADE ASSIGNMENT DUE AT THE END OF CLASS ON 12/19!!! Questions & Internet Resources Directions For Questions: Write all answers on this document in the spaces provided. Use complete sentences for all answers! I. Where did we get these crazy creatures called humans? Go to Creation of the World. Scroll down to The Human Race. Answer the questions listed below: 1) Why did the gods create human beings? 2) What gifts did Prometheus give to the people?

2 3) How did Prometheus get into trouble? What was his punishment? 4) Personalize the story: If you were a god/goddess in Ancient Greece, what three gifts would you have given to humans? Why? (Answer this question in 5-7 sentences) II. Who are the enemies of Odysseus in The Odyssey? Go to List of Greek Mythological Characters. Go to the bottom of the screen and click the letter of the alphabet that you are going to need for each character. For example, when you look up Polyphemus, you are going to click on P. After you click on the letter, you will need to find the character in the list on the left side of the screen. Enemies that you need to look up are listed below. Click on Circe.) a. What was Circe best known for? b. What did Circe turn Odysseus s men into? c. What did Circe warn Odysseus and his men about? 6) Charybdis a. Describe who/what Charybdis is.

Go to Twelve Olympians. This is your opportunity to read about the original twelve gods and goddesses. Read these brief biographies and, once finished, complete the chart below. 5 Athena Apollo Hermes Artemis IV. Who are Orpheus and Eurydice? Time for a love story! Go to Orpheus and Eurydice's Love Story. Read it and then answer the following question: Pretend you are a writer. You now have it in your power to change the fate of Orpheus and Eurydice. As a writer, how would you change the events of this story? Rewrite the ending of the story as you would like to read it. Address each of the following questions as you write your ending: a) Would Orpheus still turn around? b) Would the two lovers survive? c) Would they die more painful deaths? d) Would they be separated in the afterlife?

6 V. Who Are the Heroes in Mythology? 1) What does the word hero mean to you? 2.) What types of characteristics does a hero have? 3.) Who is a hero to you and why? Now it is time to read about some heroes in mythology! Go to Hero Stories. Click on HEROES and then select HERCULES. Read the story of this magnificent hero, then answer the following question: 1) Pretend you are Hercules, and you have just completed the twelve labors you read about. Write a letter to Zeus to persuade him to forgive you for killing your children. You will need to convince him that you have earned your forgiveness by completing the twelve labors.
