8 Introduction Since Statistics Netherlands started collecting statistical information about the islands of the Caribbean Netherlands, four years ago, a lot has been accomplished. Compared with earlier editions of this brochure in 2012 and 2013, this edition encompasses many more subjects, expanding the 48 pages of the previous edition to more than 100 pages in this one. The main cause of the increased amount of available data is that new surveys have been carried out on the islands, such as the 2012 Caribbean Netherlands Labour Force Survey (LFS). The LFS resulted in information on the labour market, employment per sector of industry and unemployment. The 2013 Budget Survey aimed to get an insight into how households on the islands spend their money and thus adjust the calculation method for the consumer price index accordingly. In addition, the 2013 Omnibus Survey was held on all three islands. This survey comprised various themes, such as health and welfare, security, transport, and leisure. The 2014 brochure also includes data on other areas, such as incoming tourists via airports, international trade and gross domestic product (GDP) for Bonaire. 7
