2 Dear Parishioners. Peace be with you. Will we ever forget how our hearts were filled with love, peace, joy, hope, and promises fulfilled as we watched and listened to Pope Francis during his visit to our Country, our Church, and our Government in September 2015? While each of us probably has a special speech that touched our soul we all seemed to conclude that he was speaking to each of us personally when he said and you, what will you do? Lent provides us with a time to focus on our response to this question. In a small booklet based 0n the Joy of the Gospel, Francis says: I invite all of you who follow Jesus wherever you are, to spend time everyday renewing your personal relationship with Jesus, letting him touch your heart. We pray that the pre-lent and Lenten Events we have planned for our Parish will provide each of you with an event through which you can let Jesus touch you heart. God s Blessings be with you. The Parish Lenten Program Committee

4 ASH WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 10, 2016 Ashes provide a fitting entry into Lent. They remind us that we, like all other creatures, will return to the earth from which we came; they signify that we would do well to focus on Gospel values; they mark us with the sign of our crucified Lord so that we can re-commit ourselves to the way of the cross, that is, to the path of life. Author: Elizabeth Vanek Blessed Ashes will be distributed at: 6:30 AM Mass 8:30 AM Mass 10:30 AM Prayer Service for School + Parish 3:30 PM Prayer Service 7:00 PM Mass CONFESSION / STATIONS OF THE CROSS / EXPOSITION / BENEDICTION Confessions will be scheduled at 6:00 PM on Thursday Evenings: February 11 th, 19 th and 25 th March 3 rd, 10 th, and 17 th. 5 SMALL GROUP LENTEN PROGRAM A Retreat with Pope Francis Presented by Father Anthony Ciorra Via: Video Cassette Father Anthony Ciorra is a leading expert on Catholic spirituality. In this retreat you will enjoy six conferences that delve into the heart of Pope Francis s message. Each conference begins with Scripture, and you will then interpret the passages through the lens of the Pope s writings. life stories, and personal example. Francis s words and style embody his Gospel message so we can find profound meaning in everything he says and does. By joining Pope Francis, you will experience the God who rejoices over you, bringing you peace and a joyful renewal of faith. Thursday afternoons at 12:30 PM 1:45 PM in the father Walsh Center February 11, 18, 25 March 3, 10, 17, 2016 Facilitator: Sister Betty BOOK CLUB FOR LENT The Book Club will hold its Lenten Series in the home of Sharon Kukawski, a parishioner of St. Francis De Sales Parish. 7 SEEING GOD IN OTHERS The gospel invites us to see God in others and to reach out beyond ourselves to seek the good of others. This is an invitation that cannot be ignored or obscured! Pope Francis (Joy and Gospel) I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another. John 13:34 Prayer Sometimes, dear God, I feel that I have no room in my life for others. And yet Jesus clearly teaches that I should love others as he has loved me. Pope Francis tells me that the invitation to do good for others is essential for Jesus followers. Help me to understand and accept these teachings, that I might reach out beyond myself to think of others first. Amen ALMSGIVING If you are able to purchase an extra Food Gift Card please consider giving it to Sister Betty who, in turn, will send it to parishioners in need.
