2 Quick Guide t Searching COS Pivt INITIAL STEPS: G t Click the Cnnect buttn Click n the wrd Funding near the tp left crner f the screen Select the Advanced Search ptin by clicking n wrds underneath the search bx Set Activity Lcatin. D nt include sub-entities r super entities Citizenship is preset t United States; select ther cuntries as apprpriate. Select Funding Types, e.g. research, travel Select Keywrd, then Brwse fr keywrds. Keywrd brwser presents a hierarchy f terms using flders. Open flders t see mre specific terms. Uncheck Explde Select apprpriate Requirements, e.g. Academic Institutin, Ph.D./M.D./Other Prfessinal FINAL STEP: Click Search T receive alerts f new pprtunities, sign int accunt, and save search. 4 Sharing Funding Opprtunities with Faculty Frequently Asked Questins 1. Hw d I share a funding pprtunity with thers? Yu can share funding pprtunities frm many pints within Pivt. Yu must be lgged in befre yu can share a funding pprtunity. Yu can share funding pprtunities frm yur Active r Tracked lists, frm the search results page, frm a funding pprtunity, and frm a lists. Lk fr links t share the pp t pen a share bx. Yu can start typing in the T field t see a list f pssible matching names, if the recipient s name is nt already ppulated in this field. Yu can type in the f a recipient if it is nt n the suggested list. If yu share with multiple peple, yu have the ptin t let all recipients see wh else received the funding pp, althugh this ptin is unchecked by default. 2. Can I share a funding pprtunity with smene utside my institutin? Yes. If yu share a funding pprtunity (r several) with smene utside yur institutin and they are als a Pivt subscriber, they will receive yur and will see the shared pprtunity in the Shared pps sectin f their hmepage. If the recipient is nt a Pivt subscriber, they will receive the and the link t view the funding pp(s) will be active fr them fr 2 weeks. 3. What is the Shared list n my hmepage? Opprtunities that yu have shared with thers in the last 60 days can be viewed by pprtunities shared r the peple with whm yu have shared funding pps. When viewing by pprtunity, yu can see the next deadline and the number f shares and if any f the recipients have added the funding pp t their Active r Tracked lists, r have dismissed the funding pp frm their Received list. In additin, the list can be viewed by the peple and yu can view all the funding pprtunities shared with the peple n the list. 5 Hmewrk Practice creating, saving and sending searches using yur Pivt accunt. Prepare t claim yur prfile! Prepare t see results! Create a Pivt Prfile When? ASAP because it takes tw weeks t prcess and we want t have it ready fr the next sessin. Why? A Pivt prfile that has been claimed, updated and managed can demnstrate hw Pivt can use yur wn data t generate funding pprtunities that are aligned t yur interests. If yu d nt Claim yur prfile, yu cannt update it. Attached is a handut that walks yu thrugh the prcess. Helpful Hints When updating yur prfile, 1) verify that yur webpages are crrect, and 2) uplad yur CV. Uplad yur CV using the Publicatins link that appears within the updating prcess. 6 Creating and Updating Yur Prfile One f the benefits f Pivt is that we have ver 3 millin faculty prfiles created and maintained by ur Editrial Team. This takes the creatin burden ff yu! We review prfiles n average every 12 t 18 mnths, hwever, if yu have pertinent infrmatin yu need added r changed in yur prfile, yu can make certain updates r additins n yur wn. These updates and additins will be immediately visible in Pivt. Yu can even attach certain types f files that Pivt will index and make searchable until the infrmatin is cnfirmed and added t yur prfile. Once yu lg in t Pivt, yu can click n yur name t see a drp dwn list f accunt ptins. If yu have a prfile linked t yur accunt, yu will see the ptin, Yur prfile. Click n this link t view yur prfile in full. If yu wish t update yur prfile, click n the Update prfile link. If yu d nt have a prfile linked t yur accunt, when yu click n yur name, yu will see the prmpt that yur name is nt linked, yu will see the Claim prfile link t either claim an existing prfile r create a prfile. Claiming an Existing Prfile Claiming an existing Pivt prfile is nt required in rder t use Pivt, hwever, there are certain benefits yu receive by ding s: Pivt Advisr: The Advisr makes funding pp recmmendatins fr yu based n yur prfile. These recmmendatins are autmatically available n yur Pivt Hmepage when yu have claimed yur prfile. If yu d nt claim r create a prfile, yu will nt see the Advisr recmmendatins n yur hmepage. Updating yur prfile. If yu d nt Claim yur prfile, yu cannt update it. Why make sure yur prfile is updated? Yur prfile is viewed by thusands f Pivt users wh may be lking fr ptential cllabratrs fr a research prject. Yu may be verlked because yur prfile is missing critical infrmatin. T claim an existing prfile: 1) Lg in t Pivt. 2) In the upper right-hand crner, yur name is displayed. Click n the arrw t display the ptins. If yu see a Claim prfile link, yu knw there is nt a prfile linked t yur Pivt accunt. Click the Claim prfile link. 2013, PrQuest, LLC All rights reserved 1

7 3) A list f ptential prfile matches (frm within yur institutin) may be displayed. If n matches ccur, yu can chse t lk fr ptential matches utside yur institutin by clicking n the apprpriate checkbx abve the results list. 4) If yu lcate yur prfile frm the results list, click the This is me buttn t the right f the prfile name. If n results display, click the Suggest a schlar link lcated t the left f the results list. 5) After clicking n the This is me buttn, a message will be displayed infrming yu that yu that a new windw will be pening t cmplete the prfile claim prcess. 6) Yu will then be asked t cnfirm whether r nt yu still have access t the address listed n yur Pivt prfile. 7) If yu cnfirm that yu still have access t the n yur prfile, yu will receive verificatin at that address that will link yur prfile t yur accunt and will grant yu access t update yur prfile. 8) If yu d nt have access t ne f the s displayed, select I n lnger have access t any f the abve addresses and hit the submit buttn and yur request t claim yur prfile will be sent t ur editrial team. A verificatin will be sent the address in yur Pivt accunt within 1 business day. This will link yur prfile t yur accunt and grants yu access t update yur prfile. Updating yur Pivt prfile: Pivt prvides the capability fr yu t update certain fields r areas f yur prfile. Updating yur prfile can increase the quality f the funding matches recmmended fr yu frm the Pivt Advisr. Yu can currently update the fllwing sectins f yur prfile: Name address(es) Webpages (with publicatins, CV r ther infrmatin) ORCID id (Nte: ORCID ids will nt be immediately visible in yur prfile. 8 Educatin Keywrds Languages Assciatins Hnrs Publicatins are updated thrugh ur linking prcess. Yu cannt currently update yur publicatins, hwever, yu can link t a publicatin page n yur website. Any publicatin r CV links yu add are indexed and searchable (as are webpages). Change submissins are immediately visible nce yu save them. T change r update yur Pivt prfile: 1) Lg in t yur Pivt accunt. 2) Click n yur name t display the ptins. 3) Click the Yur prfile link. Yu will be brught t yur Pivt prfile. 4) Click the Update yur prfile link t the far right f yur name. 5) Clicking the Cntinue buttn will take yu ut f Pivt and int ur prfile editing system. 6) Click the Edit buttn. 7) Yu will see varius buttns r icns that will allw yu t edit, add and re-rder infrmatin related t yur prfile. Click the edit buttn r edit icn t mdify the infrmatin in a specific sectin f yur prfile. Yu must click the Save r Add buttn fr each field after making changes, adding new infrmatin r remving 2013, PrQuest, LLC All rights reserved 3

9 infrmatin. Yu cannt mve t anther field until yu either save r cancel yur changes. 1) Click the Dne buttn at the tp t exit the edit view and review the changes yu have made. Yur submissins will be immediately viewable in Pivt. The prfile will be time-stamped with the date updated and the name f the persn wh edited the prfile. Pivt editrs will nt edit any prfile infrmatin (with the exceptin f the autmated publicatin linking) fr at least ne year when a prfile has been updated by a schlar r a Pivt Administratr. T create a Pivt prfile fr yurself (r fr smene else): 1) Click the Suggest a schlar link n any prfile search results page. 2) Enter the name f the persn yu wuld like a prfile created fr. 3) Once yu submit the name, yu will be shwn a list f prfiles that have already been created that may represent the persn yu wish t have added. 4) If yu find a prfile frm the list that represents the persn yu wish t have added, n further steps are required, since a prfile already exists. 5) If n prfiles are returned r nne f the prfiles frm the list represent the persn yu wish t have added, click the N match buttn. 2013, PrQuest, LLC All rights reserved 4

10 6) Yu will be brught t a new page where yu will be prmpted t enter sme infrmatin abut the persn yu wish t have added. Fill ut as much infrmatin as yu can, paying attentin t the required fields. 7) Click the Submit buttn when finished. 8) Once a prfile fr the persn has been created, yu will receive a cnfirmatin frm the Pivt Editrial Team. 2013, PrQuest, LLC All rights reserved 5
