2 Option 1: Worksheets Preparation: Make photocopies of the Quiz worksheet for each pair/group of students. Make photocopies of the Quiz answers and feedback worksheet to use for giving feedback to the students. Stages Introduction 5 10 mins Procedure 1. Ask students (in their groups) to brainstorm three things that they all do at home to protect the environment (e.g. turn off the lights when they leave the room). 2. Elicit their answers and write them up on the board 3. Tell the students they are going to do a quiz to find out how green they are. Quiz 15 + mins 1. Hand out copies of the quiz (preferably 1 per pair of students). 2. Read through the questions as a class pausing after each one to give students time to answer (Note: 1 student should put a tick and the other a cross as this will allow for more personalized feedback later). The teacher should help students where they are unclear about the questions. 3. Hand out the feedback sheet and let the students check their answers. 4. (Optional) After 5 minutes the teacher should go through the feedback sheet with the class to make sure they have understood. A good way to do this is the teacher reads out Quiz question 1 and then says yes (and students who answered yes raise their hands), the teacher then nominates a student to read the yes feedback. Repeat the process for the no section and then the rest of the questions. Extension 1. Students write a paragraph about what they ve learnt and are now personally going to do to help save the environment. Page 2

They don t hurt the environment, they are good for your skin, and they haven t been tested on animals. Many cleaning products have chemicals that harm the environment. They pollute rivers, and sometimes they are not very good for your skin. 10. Yummy! This food is good for you, and it hasn t travelled very far to get to you. If your food has travelled a long way to get to you, then you ve used a lot more energy! And it s probably not as fresh. 11. When TVs are on standby they are still using energy! You should switch all electrical things off. That s great! You know that electrical things still use energy when they are on standby. 12. If you open a window, switch off the heater or air-conditioner or you are wasting energy. That s right! You know that it doesn t make any sense to open a window when the heater or air-conditioner is on. 13. Great! Make sure you use energy saving light bulbs too, and you will save more energy. You are wasting energy if you leave the lights on in the house. Remember to switch them off when you leave a room. Page 5

6 Option 2: Computer and data projector Preparation: Insert the CD material and go to.. Stages Introduction 5 10 mins Procedure 1. Ask students (in their groups) to brainstorm three things that they all do at home to protect the environment (e.g. turn off the lights when they leave the room). 2. Elicit their answers and write them up on the board 3. Tell the students they are going to do a quiz to find out how green they are. Quiz 10 mins 1. Hand out copies of the quiz (preferably 1 per pair of students). 2. Project the image and then students take turns to come up and click on a question with the mouse. That student then reads the question aloud. The rest of the class identify it on their quiz sheet and answer. (Note: 1 student should put a tick and the other a cross as this will allow for more personalized feedback later). 3. Repeat this process (moving around the class) until all 13 questions have been answered. 4. Show the feedback section and let the students check their answers. 5. Elicit their answers and write them up on the board 3. Tell the students they are going to do a quiz to find out how green they are. Quiz 10 mins 1. Get students to open the webpage: 2. Ask the students, in pairs, to read the instructions and start the quiz. Tell them to choose Two players option. 3. Remind them to read the feedback on their answers Extension 1.
