2 01 Effective app store marketing strategies for your mobile VoIP app These days it's not enough for your mobile VoIP app to be just present on various app stores. You can no longer afford to let your app sit and collect dust, in the hope that it will somehow be found by the masses. There are millions of apps in all the major app stores like Google Play, itunes, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry World etc. If you are a VoIP service provider who is interested to acquire new customers and grow your business, then customer acquisition through the app store visibility is a good marketing strategy. Since there are huge numbers of apps in every category, one needs to effectively perform the app store marketing in order to be viewed by the masses. Last year, Google Play attracted around 980 million users, who downloaded more than 2 billion apps. As of June 2014, more than 75 billion mobile apps had been downloaded from the Apple app store. According to Gartner, in 2014, total billion apps are downloaded from all major app stores. Hence by increasing your visibility in app stores, you can have access to a large target user group. So, in order to help you in increasing your customer base through app stores, here we have given some effective marketing strategies which you can follow for getting brand recognition and more visitors in your app store page. App store marketing activities for your VoIP business It can be classified in 3 broad categories: A B C Activities within app stores Activities outside app stores In-app activities & paid advertising

3 02 A Activities within app stores ASO ( App Store Optimization) is the process of improving the visibility of a mobile app in an app store. Just like Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is for websites, ASO is for mobile apps. Specifically, app store optimization includes the process of ranking highly in an app store's search results and top charts rankings. ASO marketers agree that ranking higher in search results will drive more downloads for an app. Having relevant keywords in the title of your VoIP dialer, can certainly improve the search rankings of your app for such keywords. There are tools like SensorTower, Google s AdWords, and App Store Optimization by MobileDevHQ that will help you to select the specific keywords. The steps outlined below will help you to optimize your mobile dialer in all the app stores. Overall app ratings: This is an important factor not only from an ASO perspective, but also from a conversion perspective. When 1200 people rate an app 5 out of 5, we assume it to be a great app. Hence ratings are the direct reflection of your mobile app s performance a great app will receive high ratings.

4 03 App reviews: Just like ratings, reviews will certainly help in conversions. The more favourable reviews your app receives from users, higher are the conversion rates. Also, make sure you pay attention to what people say. You should use the reviews as a feedback to continuously improve the performance of your app. App icon: The app icon is the first visual element that users see when they view an app in the app store listing. An icon should immediately convey what an app is all about, in the simplest manner possible. Complex icon designs can be difficult to distinguish on smaller devices and should be avoided.

5 04 Screenshots: Screenshots are also one of the first visual elements that users see when viewing an app. Each screenshot should convey a specific benefit of your app like how to install and get started with the VoIP dialer and supplemental text should be used, wherever possible, to clarify what each screenshot is all about. All available screenshot slots should be used to maximize visibility. App description: It is very similar to the Meta description tag on a website. Clearly and effectively explain what the app is, what it does, and its benefits. Again, since it s not an actual website, this content will be your primary leveraging mechanism to market your app.

6 05 Total app downloads: This certainly affects searcher psyche. The more downloads your mobile dialer has, the higher the chances someone else will download that as well. Apart from that it s also an important factor that search engine takes into account for app store ranking. B Activities outside app stores The website page: You need to have a website which is an extension of your app and shows what it s all about, how to use it, screenshots, and other details. Within the app s description, you should provide a link to your corporate website. The website also should be linked back to the app in the app store(s). Cross linking boosts the app s ASO value and also confirms that the app is authentic, not an imposter. Social media: Social media can benefit your app business in many ways it not only increases brand awareness, but also draws in the right audience for your app. Being able to clearly communicate with your user is vital for keeping your reviews within the app stores positive. All of your social media channels, if possible, should be customized and include a description of your app, company background, a website address, contact information, reviews, and other relevant content.

7 06 Blogs and forums: Place a blog on your website with relevant content that pertains to your app s users and post frequently in different forums. Whenever you post, tweet it out, add a link on Facebook, and it to your list of subscribers. Otherwise, it ll fall on deaf ears. Get featured on app review sites: A high percentage of downloads for new apps occur after those apps have been reviewed by app review sites or other earned media outlets (tech news, mainstream media etc). Identify the bloggers and the authors who are writing about your direct competitors and reach out to them for writing reviews about your mobile app. C In- app marketing & paid advertising Drive your ratings: Ratings drive apps further up in the rankings, allowing them to become more discoverable. The most common method for gaining further ratings is with the use of in-app pop-up which prompts the user to leave a rating. Sometime people forget to rate your app in the app store, so the pop up helps to get you instant ratings. Here it works as a reminder. Ask users to refer and get rewards: Instead of spending dollars on traditional advertising methods, try to reach out to consumers in unique ways. Tell your app users to invite people for downloading your app and give some reward for each referral. In this way you can increase the total number of app downloads and also make users aware about your app.
