The VP is an integral member of Oxfam America s senior leadership team. As the organization concludes a successful $75 million campaign, the VP has a bold mandate:

2 Page 2 of 6 To provide vison and leadership for next-level growth To engage donors in a potent global movement designed to rectify systemic injustices and end poverty, hunger and climate degradation To empower donors to invest more deeply in program and policy results To realize the potential of Oxfam s global unification and new public engagement, digital and face-to-face fundraising initiatives To bring to life the value, accountability and impact of Oxfam s work. THE ORGANIZATION Oxfam saves lives, develops long-term solutions to poverty, and campaigns for social change. The organization was founded in 1942 by a group of Quaker intellectuals, social activists, and Oxford academics in response to the plight of refugees in Greece. Oxfam America was founded in 1970 in response to the humanitarian crisis created by the fight for independence in Bangladesh. Oxfam America is guided by a clear mission and principles. It does not accept U.S. government funding and instead builds broad-based independent support. Known for integrity and focus on the root causes of social injustice, hunger, poverty and climate change, Oxfam promotes a pragmatic understanding of how the world works how money flows and power is deployed and empowers people to drive change. In its strategic plan, Securing Rights at Scale, Oxfam America seeks to achieve rights-based results through effective field programs and by influencing public and private institutions to take those programs to scale. This work is organized into three goals: Fueling the development investment system, including directing funding to long-term development purposes. Promoting fair, sustainable agriculture and food systems. Reforming the global emergency response system. Oxfam America works fearlessly for transformative, systemic change. It has grown in size, influence and impact in its 46 years. Recent accomplishments include impacting the 2016 U.S. political narrative and Davos Conference with killer facts like 62 individuals hold as much wealth as 3.5 billion people. Oxfam s Behind the Brand campaign has challenged major corporations like Pepsi, Coca-Cola and M&M Mars to change their policies and practices in order to live up to their publicly espoused commitments to sustainability and human rights. Oxfam meets with global power brokers and governments to press for tax reform and transparent, as well as more inclusive and equitable, practices.

3 Page 3 of 6 Oxfam America is in a strong financial position, with ample reserves, and will complete a $75 million campaign, Unlocking the Power of People Against Poverty, this year. Smart investments in donor acquisition and fundraising innovation, made over a number of years, are paying off. Aggressive digital and public engagement strategies, along with a face-to-face street canvassing pilot, are promising current initiatives. During its fiscal year ending March 2015, Oxfam America raised a record $95 million in contributions, up from about $70 million. This was driven in part by large two large gifts and several multi-year gifts recognized in FY15. Oxfam America has 144,000 active donors, with an average gift of $206. Of the resources contributed by individuals, $30 million came via direct marketing. 4 Page 4 of 6 The VP of Development will be a dynamic leader with passion for Oxfam s global mission and a record of increasing revenue in relevant settings. The VP will inspire and energize staff, volunteers, partners and donors through vision, leadership and results. The VP will be a persuasive spokesperson on Oxfam s issues and case for support, and a catalyst for next-level innovation, accomplishment and growth. The VP will: 1. Lead Oxfam America resource growth. The VP will be a big-picture leader of vision, strategy and execution. The VP will have a track record of growing resources, and will define the next-level development objectives, strategies and plans. The VP will bring frontline and management experience across the development continuum, and will be a source of innovation, ideas and relationship strategies. 2. Be a compelling frontline representative. The VP will have a magnetic personality, frontline development experience and the ability to inspire donors and constituents of all kinds. The VP will engage the Oxfam Leadership Council and Board members, as well as individual, foundation, corporate and public/private partners and donors. A dynamic speaker and communicator, the VP will be a credible, effective and versatile storyteller and representative of Oxfam s mission and work. 3. Take Oxfam s development strategies to the next level. As Oxfam America engages with the full suite of Oxfam programs around the globe, the VP will broaden, diversify and deepen relationships with current and prospective American donors. In addition to increasing unrestricted support, the VP will deepen donors engagement with advocacy and program objectives. The VP will help Oxfam capitalize on the potential of its new public engagement, digital and face-to-face fundraising initiatives, and will enhance relationship-centered approaches. The VP will develop new, significant partnerships, gifts and grants, and will monetize Oxfam s assets, as well as innovate and pilot new approaches. 4. Be a great manager of people and the business. The VP will be an experienced, savvy team builder and leader of people, innovation, budgets and business processes. The VP will build, inspire and lead a passionate, high-performing team. She or he will be knowledgeable about leading-edge resource development processes, infrastructure and strategies that leverage fundraising best practices. The VP will be adept at stewardship, and at helping donors appreciate the value and results of their Oxfam giving. 5. Contribute to U.S. and global culture and success. The VP will be a

He or she will be a sought-after thought partner and source of ideas across Oxfam America and the international Oxfam organization. The VP will help transform the organization into a cohesive, effective and collaborative global entity with accountability and high standards. Alignment with Oxfam s mission, staff and board, donors and other key stakeholders. THE LOCATION The Vice President, Development is based at Oxfam America headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts. Boston is home to many Fortune 500 companies, including Staples, Athena Health, GE and EMC, and to many of America s top academic, science and healthcare institutions. The VP role requires domestic and international travel.
