3 Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic features at a glance Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic gives you a simple yet powerful way to manage many of your smart devices. It gives your business the ability to include devices that aren t supplied by the company, for example a personal device brought into the business by an employee. With Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic, you can quickly and easily manage and keep these smart devices secure through a simple easy to use console. So your people can make the most of the devices for work and you can be confident that the company data and applications on them are secure. 4 Getting started Make sure you have: The latest version of one of the following internet browsers: 2. Input your user name and password. Note: You will have received a username and password via SMS text or Click Log In A smartphone or tablet with one the following operating systems: Your VSDM Basic user name and password. Log in to the Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic management console Vodafone Secure Device Manager (VSDM) Basic provides a central location (the VSDM Basic management console) for administrators to manage smart devices regardless of operating system, carrier, network or location. The VSDM Basic management console provides secure access to your employees' smartphones and tablets, allowing you to update security settings over the air From the VSDM Basic management console, administrators can manage deployed, smart mobile devices from anywhere in the world. To log in 1. Go to If this is the first time you have accessed VSDM Basic, you will also be asked to: Provide additional personal details, e.g. your security question (to recover your password). Accept the Vodafone Terms and Conditions. Forgotten username or password If you have forgotten your password or your username, then click on the Trouble Logging in link above the Login button, and then follow the instructions on the screen. 5 Adding devices Before you can manage devices through the management console, each device needs to be registered, enrolled and activated for mobile device management on the VSDM Basic management console. You are now in the device settings screen. iphones and ipads ios Set up Before you can register ios devices, you need to generate first an ios certificate. This only takes a few minutes but you will need an Apple ID and password. To communicate with your device, the portal requires a certificate from Apple. Click on the Generate new certificate button below in order to generate and upload a certificate. Follow steps 1 to 4 on the set up screen, detailed below in order to generate your Apple Certificate and begin using the security services for ios devices. 6 When you click on the Generate New Certificate button, a new window will open up - Step 1 of a 4 step sequence. Step 1 1. Click on the Download CSR for Apple button. 2. A pop-up screen will be displayed if you have a PC. 3. Input the destination field and click on OK. Step 2 You only need to complete Step 2 if you have not got an Apple ID. 7 2. Create your certificate by clicking on the Create a certificate button. Step 3 1. Sign in using your Apple ID. When presented with the terms and conditions pop-up window. Click Accept. Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic User Guide Page 7
8 Go back to the front screen to complete the process, inputting your Apple ID and clicking upload. Step 4 Upload 1. Browse your computer and locate your certificate 2. Click Upload Your certificate is now uploaded. The certificate will support all ios devices enrolled on VSDM Basic. You only have to complete this 4 Step process once. 9 Once you have completed Step 4, the APN certificate is generated and uploaded under ios settings. Add an iphone and ipad To add a device, go to the Home Screen, under the Manage tab To add the first ios device, click on Add Device. Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic User Guide Page 9
10 You MUST use the country dialing code e.g As a minimum, the mandatory fields (marked with a *) need to be completed before a device can be added. Activating Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic on an iphone or ipad device When the device is enrolled on to the VSDM Basic console by the administrator, you will receive the enrolment notification via SMS or . To register a device on VSDM Basic, you need to install and activate it on the device. The screens below show you the step by step process to follow when activating VSDM Basic on an iphone or ipad. Select your device Platform from the drop down list. Fill in the information relevant to the device. Select your communication preference, for or SMS text message. Then click Add Device button. Once you have selected Add Device, you will be presented with the Add Device pop up window. The new device will appear in the management console but is not activated. 11 Notification of activation on the Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic management console As soon as a device is activated with VSDM Basic, a confirmation message will appear on the management console confirming that the device is successfully enrolled. The device status will then change from Registered to Enrolled. If this is not the case, you might need to click on the Refresh Button in the upper left corner, next to Devices. 12 Android devices To add a device, go to the home screen by clicking on the Manage tab. You will be presented with the Add Device pop up window and asked to provide details of the device you want to add. You MUST use the country dialing code e.g To add the first Android device, click on Add Device. Select your device Platform from the drop down list. Fill in the information relevant to the device. 13 Activating Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic on an Android device Once the device has received the enrolment notification via SMS or , installing the profile and activating the device is a quick and simple process. The screens below show the step by step process to activate VSDM Basic on the device. Make sure you install the Airwatch client from Google Play first. It will have a status of registered. The device status will then change from Registered to Enrolled. Windows Phone devices To add a device, go to the home screen, under the Manage tab. If this is not the case, you might need to hit the Refresh Button in the upper left corner, next to Devices. To add the first Windows device, click on Add Device. You MUST use the country dialing code e.g. +44 Once the fields are completed and Add Device is selected, depending on the message type selected, an or SMS will be sent to the user s device. Note: When the Is Device Wi-Fi only box is ticked, the device can only receive an notification when connected to a recognised Wi-Fi enabled network. As a minimum, the mandatory fields (marked with a *) need to be completed before a device can be added. Select your device Platform from the drop down list. Select Windows Phone 8 for Windows Phone 8 or higher. For all others, select Windows Phone. Windows mobile devices are not supported. Select your communication preference, for or SMS text message. Then click Add Device button. The new device will now appear in the management console but it is not activated. It will have a status of Registered. 16 Activating Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic on a Windows Phone device Once the device has received the enrollment notification via SMS or , you have to install the profile and activate VSDM Basic on the device. The screens below show the step by step process to follow when activating VSDM Basic on the Windows 8 Phone device. When you log into VSDM you will be presented with your home page. 17 Note: The message you receive contains the host name and group id. Please make a note of this before you proceed with the activation. Notification of activation on the Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic management console As soon as a device is activated with VSDM Basic, a confirmation message will appear on the management console confirming that the device is successfully enrolled. The device status will then change from Registered to Enrolled. If this is not the case, you might need to hit the Refresh Button in the upper left corner, next to Devices. As you can see, the second user (Mac Max) has a status of REGISTERED meaning the confirmation message has been sent. Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic User Guide Page 17

Select your device platform from the drop down list. Select your communication preference for or SMS text message. Then click the Add Device button. You will receive a SMS text message. Click on the link in the message to start downloading and enrolling VSDM basic onto your device. It will have a status of registered. 22 Managing devices Once enrolled, this is what the management console will look like. Simply click on the Settings tab to display the device settings and system set up screen. 23 Managing devices continued Push an profile Click Save Settings. This will automatically send the profile to all devices currently on the platform. Setting up on an ANDROID device An Android device cannot push POP3 or IMAP. It can accept an exchange profile but will need the Nitrodesk Touchdown app (found on the Google App Store) to be loaded first before it can accept the pushed settings. Note: The Nitrodesk Touchdown app is a third party application. It is free for one month. For more information visit Please make sure you input the information under the correct type (Exchange / POP or IMAP). Your changes have now been saved. The icon on the management console will turn from Grey to Green as soon as the update is received by the device. Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic User Guide Page 23
24 Managing devices continued Push a Wi-Fi profile As a minimum, the mandatory fields (marked with a *) need to be completed. Enforce a passcode The user will have received a notification that they need to set a passcode. Click to display the Wi-Fi settings screen. Click Save Settings. This will automatically send the profile to all devices currently on the platform. It does not mean that the device is secure. Please check with your user to ensure they activate the settings when the notification was sent. Note: When using the management console, place your mouse over the question mark for more help. 25 Managing devices continued Activate GPS settings When you have finished inputting your requirements, remember to save settings. Please check with your user to ensure they activate GPS or location services on their device. When you have finished, remember to Save Settings. 26 Managing devices continued Add profiles If you have not selected the auto push function, you can send a Wi-Fi or passcode profile to a user s device by clicking on the relevant symbol next to the Enrolled status indicator. As soon as the profile setting is installed on the device, the symbols will turn green, as you can see with the and passcode setting below. Grey = not active Green = active Passcode Wi-Fi You will be asked to confirm whether you want to install or remove the profile settings, depending on whether the icon was grey (not active) or green (active). Note: This can take a few minutes and requires the device to have an active data connection. If you click on the icon and the colour does not change, you need to click the refresh button. 27 Managing devices continued Find, lock and wipe To manage the features of a device, you need to select the Options+ button on the management console. Wipe If you wipe the device, data will be deleted and the device will be set back to factory settings. The device will be wiped as soon as it has an active data connection. Depending on device type, you may be able to choose whether you want to wipe the SD card or the whole storage. You can now easily control and manage the VSDM Basic features on your mobile devices. 1. To wipe a device, select the Wipe tab at the top of the window. 2. Proceed to wipe the device by clicking on the Green Wipe button. Find If a GPS or location service on the device is activated, you can locate it on a map. It can take up to a few minutes until the GPS connection to the device is established. If the device cannot be found, please check that the end user has activated the GPS or location services. Lock If you lock the device, the user will be required to enter the predefined passcode to unlock it. The device will be locked as soon as it has an active data connection. You need to set the passcode on the device first or this function will not work. Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic User Guide Page 27
28 Managing devices continued 3. A pop up window will display the details of the device you are planning to remove. The device Wipe pop-up window will display the details of the KEY CODE you need to enter to continue. 3. Follow the instructions and enter the KEY CODE (e.g.1603) in the mandatory field (marked by an * ). 4. Click on Device Wipe to complete the action. Remove a device 1. Go to the device management console. 2. Select Edit Details next to the device you are planning to remove. 4. Check that this is the device you want to remove and click Remove Device. 5. 29 Managing devices continued How to manually update your device When you activated your device, the default setting 'Always' is set automatically on the device. Always the application downloads regular updates from the update server automatically to keep the virus definition database up to date (recommended). You can change your automatic update setting by choosing one of the other options available. a. In home network the application downloads updates from the update server automatically when you are using your own operator s network. b. Never the virus definitions are not updated automatically. We do not recommend that you disable automatic updates. Note: If you do disable automatic updates. or do not use real time scanning mode, you will need to update the application manually. 1. Make sure you are connected to the internet. In the main view, select update. 2. Select yes to check for the latest updates. 3. Select yes to download any new software update that is available. 4. When the download is complete, select install. Remove VSDM or VSDP from your device. Remove Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic (excepting Android) The standard way to remove Vodafone Secure Device Manager Basic from a device is for the administrator to first remove the device from the management console. This removes the device and allows you, as the user, to delete the application from your deivce. It is advisable to stop or disable the services within the application before removing it. To uninstall and remove the application from your smartphone or mobile device, follow these instructions: 1. Open the application and go to more. 2. Select about. 3. Tap uninstall. Remove Vodafone Secure Device Manager from an Android device First, in the VSDM Basic Management console, click on Edit device and then Remove device. Now the device is removed from the VSDM Basic Management console. To uninstall the application, the user has to Go to the Security Settings menu (very often under Settings/Security and look for a menu item Device Management. Here he has to uncheck the Vodafone Secure Device Manager application. Stop the running VSDM application on the device (this is normally done in the Settings/Applications/Vodafone Secure Device Manager menu) The user can now remove the client in the Settings/Applications/Vodafone Secure Device Manager menu like any other application. Remove Vodafone Secure Device Manager (excepting Android devices) 1. You need to enter your security code to uninstall the application. 2. You may need to open applications and stop running apps. Then the application can be removed from your device. 3. The product is deactivated in the device administrator list during the uninstall process. 4. If you cancel the process, you need to activate the app again to continue to use it. A hard reset of the device will remove the application. All information will be wiped, not just the VSDM Basic application. Remove device protection from your Android device You will require your Device Protection passcode to uninstall the application. If you forgot your passcode please contact your Vodafone support. You can uninstall the Device Protection application like each other application from Settings/Applications.
