1 School Field Trip Packet Thank you for choosing Omaha s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium and Lozier IMAX Theater for your school field trip. Please review and complete all parts of this packet prior to your arrival. A completed packet will expedite your entry process. What to do before your arrival: Complete the included School Field Trip Reservation Form which will serve as your billing form if needed. Get an accurate count of students and adult chaperones prior to check-in. Please have at least 1 adult chaperone for every 10 students. Prepare your payment. Collect memberships from students and chaperones participating in this field trip. (Photocopies are accepted for school groups only.) *Zoo memberships can not be used for IMAX school visits. Please provide us with a total number of students and chaperones using memberships. A lump sum payment will be taken for the remainder of your group. Please provide us with a total number of students and chaperones you are paying for. You MUST have payment collected and counted prior to your check-in. We accept cash, check or credit card. (VISA, Discover, American Express and MasterCard) or we can bill your school. You will receive a wristband for each adult in your group at the time of check-in. (Wristbands must be worn during entire Zoo visit.) Due to the high traffic experienced during the open hours of the Zoo and IMAX we will not accept individual payments from students or chaperones. Adults must accompany children during entire Zoo visit. Students and chaperones arriving separate from your group will be charged the FULL ADMISSION RATE for entry into the Zoo and IMAX. If you have any questions regarding the information in this packet please contact the Education Department at (402) page 1
2 Tips for a GREAT Visit: Making a Reservation ~ We offer discounted rates to school groups. To reserve your field trip, call (402) , or a downloadable reservation form to classes@omahazoo.com. Forms are available at A confirmation letter/reservation form will be mailed to you. Chaperones ~ For the safety and enjoyment of all visitors, school groups are asked to provide a sufficient number of chaperones to accompany students. One adult chaperone must be present for every ten students to be eligible for the school group rate. Chaperones are responsible for student conduct and must remain with students at all times. Make sure to allow plenty of time ~ It takes 4-6 hours to view the Zoo completely. Focus on sections of the Zoo that meet your educational objectives. Plan your lunch ~ Your group is welcome to use picnic areas that are located throughout the Zoo, although tables cannot be reserved. Concession stands are open from April 1 to October 31, weather permitting. The TreeTops Restaurant is open all year for lunch purchases. No sack lunches are permitted in this facility. Pick up your mess ~ Help us keep the Zoo aesthetically pleasing by using designated walkways and placing trash in appropriate containers. Dress appropriately for the weather ~ The Zoo is open year round: rain, snow or shine. Make sure your students are dressed appropriately. Only bring items that you can carry ~ There are no secure areas available for storage of lunches and coolers. We recommend that you leave everything in your vehicles until needed. Zoo Etiquette: Animals have special diets; do not tease them, throw things into their exhibit, or feed them. Glass and straws are not permitted on Zoo grounds. Please respect the plants and animals by staying on the walkways. Do not cross barriers, tap on exhibit glass, or climb fences and rocks. While on a volunteer or staff-guided program, the guide is counting on you to encourage proper behavior. Unchaperoned or unruly groups will be asked to leave the Zoo. Be attentive, observant and calm, especially while you are in the indoor exhibits. page 2
3 Zoo and Imax Check-In Procedures We are glad that you chose Omaha s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium & the Lozier IMAX Theater for your field trip! To ensure a smooth check-in, please follow these easy steps. Please review all paperwork that came with this packet. Step 1: Prior to arrival at the Zoo and IMAX Theater: Review Zoo and IMAX group procedures and guidelines with all teachers & chaperones attending with you. Go over the student guidelines with your students. Step 2: Step 3: Step 4: Step 1: Step 2: Step 3: Step 1: Complete the attached Reservation Form prior to your visit and include the exact number of people in your group. Collect money and Zoo passes from your students, teachers and chaperones that are to be included in your group. GROUP MUST PAY IN ONE PAYMENT. *Zoo memberships can not be used for IMAX school visits. Designate a meeting place for your group just in case someone would get separated from your group. Share this information with all students and chaperones. When you arrive at the Zoo: Take completed reservation form to the appropriate location. Visits to Zoo only: check in at Guest Services Office Visit to Zoo and IMAX : check in at IMAX Theater Present your Reservation Form to the Zoo cashier at Guest Services. Prior to collecting our payment the cashier will confirm the number of people in your group. You will be given wristbands for each Adult/Chaperone in your group. Wristbands will be issued based on exact quantity of chaperones/adults that you have paid for or presented their membership at the time of your group check in. Only chaperones/adults with a wristband will be admitted into the zoo with your group. After you have checked in: Return to your group and finalize the agenda for your group s visit. Issue a wristband to each chaperone/adult and instruct them to put them on their wrist prior to group approaching the admission gate. We hope this will expedite your entry into the zoo. We will provide a Zoo map for each adult in your group. If you are attending IMAX, please verify the time of your show with your chaperones before group splits up. Allow a minimum of 15 minutes before your show time. page 3 Have a great visit to Omaha s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium!
4 Zoo/IMAX School Group Procedures Supervision: All Teachers and Chaperones must stay with their groups at ALL times. Remember, you must have one (1) adult chaperone accompanying every 10 students. Chaperones are responsible for student conduct and behavior. To ensure that all Zoo guests have a pleasant visit, unruly groups will be asked to leave the Zoo. Parking: Please print the ZOO or IMAX sign on pages 5 and 6. Place them in the front window of your bus. Buses will park in the Rosenblatt Stadium lot located just west of the 10th Street Zoo entrance. Lunches: There are no indoor picnic facilities or lunch storage areas available at the Zoo. Please leave your lunch items on the bus, if possible. In the case of rain, sack lunches can be eaten in the Cat Complex, Hubbard Gorilla Valley, Desert Dome orientation area and the Giraffe Complex. Durham TreeTops Restaurant is open year round for lunch purchases. If your group is larger than 50 and you plan on eating in Durham TreeTops Restaurant, please coordinate your lunch needs with the Restaurant in advance by calling (402) SACK LUNCHES ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE RESTAURANT OR INSIDE THE IMAX THEATER. Student Etiquette: Our Zoo animals have special diets. Please do not feed or tease animals or throw things into their exhibits. For the safety of our animals, straws and balloons are not permitted on Zoo grounds. For safety reasons, roller shoes and skates are not permitted in the Zoo. Please respect our animals and plants by staying on the walkways. Do not cross barriers, tap on exhibit glass or climb fences or rocks. Be attentive, observant and calm, especially in the indoor exhibits. IMAX Etiquette: To ensure that all IMAX guests have a quality experience, we ask that chaperones sit mixed within the group and groups sit together in one area of the theater. Students must be chaperoned at all times while attending an IMAX film. Due to our need for seating for IMAX guests with special needs and for our senior audience, school groups are asked to not sit in the top two rows of the theater unless special seating is needed for your group. Check in at the IMAX Box Office upon arrival. Groups will not be seated until the ENTIRE group is present. Late arrivals for the IMAX Theater will not be seated after the show has started. No exceptions. Strollers, wagons and sack lunches are not allowed inside the IMAX Theater. Please be courteous to those around you by refraining from talking, throwing items and by remaining seated throughout the entire film. Please take any trash items with you as you leave the theater. page 4 We are glad that you chose Omaha s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium & the Lozier IMAX Theater for your field trip. To ensure a fun and safe trip, please review these guidelines with your students and chaperones, prior to your visit. Have a great visit to Omaha s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium and the Lozier IMAX Theater!
