3 USDOE Grant ( The EV Project) USDOE awarded a $99.8 million grant to etec to build and study a comprehensive charge infrastructure based on Nissan EVs. Work started October Five-state test market in major population areas Seattle, Portland/Salem/Eugene, OR; San Diego, Phoenix/Tucson and Nashville/Knoxville/Chattanooga 5,000 Nissan LEAF EVs 12,500 proposed level 2 chargers (220-volt with 4-6 hour charge) 250 proposed level 3 fast chargers (480-volt with 30 min. charge) Total project funds: $200 million (1:1 match w/partner investments & vehicles) Infrastructure can be used by all EVs (not limited to LEAF) Project Objectives Data collection (charging habits/locations, vehicle usage, battery level) Lessons learned (station usage, technical/install challenges) Grid interaction (impact on electrical system) Basis for nationwide charging infrastructure deployment strategy 3

4 Charging Infrastructure Deployment Plan 2010/11 Residential Roughly 1000 Level II chargers using USDOE grant funds, based on sale of Nissan LEAFs to consumers Other chargers from EV sales by other OEMs Business/Public (Roughly using USDOE grant funds) Retail Locations Public Locations Other EVSE installations outside of the USDOE grant, including Larger Employees DC Quick Charge stations Roughly 50 using USDOE grant funds USDOE Grant funds targeted at 4 metro regions in Oregon Portland, Salem, Corvallis, Eugene EV Trucks and Off-Road Uses will increase 4

5 Positioning Your Community or Business Become EV Ready Think about incentives and programs to encourage Electric Vehicles Assess your organizational needs for EVs in your fleet. Identify where the vehicles, home base would be, and identify other locations where these vehicles would need to charge as part of their daily use routine. Think about EVs and EVSE compatibility in all new construction and renovation project scopes to either include them during that process or facilitate implementation in the future. Actions If you are interested in free Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE), installed at your home or business with the purchase of a new Nissan Leaf Electric Vehicle register at If you are interested in hosting a public location for an EVSE and having some of the costs paid by The EV Project, sign up at and contact Dave Mayfield with etec at DMayfield@eTecEVs.com or call Resources Electrification Roadmap Report can be downloaded at Governor's Alternative Fuel Vehicle Infrastructure Working Group Final Report 5
