4 Section Three. This section is worth 30 marks. Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow. Oscar Romero was appointed head of the Roman Catholic Church in El Salvador at a time of great poverty and suffering for many people. He felt called by God to help the suffering of the poor and follow the example of Jesus who also worked with the poor. He encouraged protests against injustice and urged people to stand up for their rights. Oscar Romero used his position to tell the rest of the world about what was happening in his country. His sermons were often critical of the government of his country and gave comfort to those who were suffering because of the injustices in the country. On March 23 rd Oscar Romero used the radio station to broadcast his sermon and appeal to the government to stop the violence against the people of El Salvador. That day was the day he was shot dead by a gunman while celebrating the Eucharist. 1. Outline how the article above shows what is meant by vocation 2.
