1 STCW95 Superyacht Deck Crew Training weeks UK This course gives you the essential qualifications needed to enter the superyacht industry as deck crew. Working on a superyacht is an exciting, well paid, career option leading to travel and adventure opportunities worldwide. The course is split into four sections. Section 1. STCW 95 Basic Safety Training - a compulsory safety qualification for all crew on superyachts and other vessels over 24 metres. There are five elements to this five-day day shorebased course. Section 2. RYA Short Range Radio (GMDSS/ DSC) - a legal requirement so you can talk on the radio. This one-day course teaches you marine radio techniques and emergency procedures. Section 3. RYA Powerboat Level 2 - is a recommended course teaching how to drive the yacht's tenders, which can be quite large and which is a primary function of deck crew. This two-day course provides intensive training in the practical skills and theory knowledge needed by the small boat driver. Section 4. Superyacht Deck Crew Foundation - learn the skills required to be a deckhand. We teach you the basic tasks that will be required of you, including aspects of navigation and seamanship and an introduction to Radar operation. On completion of this course, you will have all the qualifications required to apply for a job as a deckhand on a superyacht.

2 Section 1. STCW95 Basic Safety Training - 5 days The International Maritime Organization (IMO) lays down standards for the training and certification of watchkeepers known as STCW 95. STCW 95 Basic Safety Training is a mandatory IMO entry level safety course for anyone who wishes to work on a vessel over 24m. Under the MCA large yacht code Superyachts are considered to be anything greater than 24m in length. On successful completion of the training you will be issued with the internationally recognised STCW 95 certification. You ll leave the course with a good understanding of safety and emergency procedures and be familiar with rescue and evacuation. You will have practised crisis scenarios, handled fire fighting equipment and launched a life raft. You will have a thorough understanding of how to perform as a professional mariner. 3 Section 2. RYA VHF Short Range Radio inc. GMDSS - 1 day Course Programme This one-day course teaches the basics of VHF radio operation, and radio etiquette. The radio network has undergone a great change with the implementation of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). You will learn about these procedures enabling you to make a DSC emergency call using a live set! When working on superyachts, your VHF radio is the best means of contact to your crew, other vessels and coast stations. A vital skill needed for any member of the Deck team. 4 Section 3. Flying Fish Superyacht Deck Crew Foundation - 6 days This six-day course is designed to introduce you to the skills required to work on a large superyacht. You will cover the roles and responsibilities of a deckhand and day-to-day life on board. With good deckhands so in demand, get ahead of the competition by learning the trade. Course syllabus Glass Reinforced Plastics (GRP) AM Learn the basics of how a boat is built Create a basic gel coat and fibreglass boat using a mould Understand the uses for gel coat, fibreglass, resins and the chemistry behind how they work PM Hands on experience of repairs to small craft Mixing bogs and their application Flow-coating and the need for sanding/polishing Ropework Sailing knots and their applications bowline, round turn and two half hitches, clove hitch, rat s tail stopper knot, rolling hitch, fisherman s bend and stopper knots Rope maintenance Coiling and throwing 3-strand splices Whipping

RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship A great introduction to navigation and safety awareness over two days. RYA National Powerboat Level 2 Certificate - 2 days The RYA National Powerboat Certificate Level 2 is the benchmark qualification for driving small powerboats and RIB s (Rigid Inflatable Boats.) It is approved by the MCA and is important if you re planning to work professionally in the Superyacht industry as you will be required to drive the tenders and support craft on board the yacht. The course includes safety, close quarter and high speed handling, man over board recovery, coming alongside, mooring and anchoring. The Solent provides an ideal training ground in which to develop your power boating skills with busy challenging tidal waterways.
