1 2014 Annual Report Summary February 2015

2 Michael Patterson Regional Director Introduction ACUI Region VII celebrated its first year in In review, we have accomplished a lot and we have much to be proud about. The ACUI Regional Restructuring Task Force designed a common regional experience and structure that has mostly served us well. The Regional Leadership Team was filled with volunteers for the first time in September 2013 as a group of 14. We introduced Region VII for the first time at the former regional conferences later that fall and we met as a leadership team in person in January 2014 at Bloomsburg University. We have been running ever since. We developed a direction for the region by introducing core goals for the leadership team and region to follow. We continued to meet and met as a regional delegation for the first time in Orlando at the ACUI conference. We quickly developed spirit and pride in Region VII. We kept up the momentum by delivering three non-conference programs from June to October (college union tour and drive around, an online webinar and a drive-in workshop). Our first conference at the University at Buffalo was amazing with 266 delegates and a newly designed regional conference experience. Also created in this first year were new communication methods, an ongoing student connect program, a regional artifacts program, additional volunteer opportunities, and a whole new compilation of awards and scholarships to benefit our membership. This annual report is designed to not only summarize the accomplishments of the year, but to provide direction for the next. As a tool for volunteer transition, this will also document our regional history. Following are summaries from the Regional Leadership Team members that further explain each position s successes, challenges and future recommendations. Highlights of 2014 The Regional Leadership Team has developed regional goals to serve as a directive for the future. We have a total of 61 regional members in Association-wide and regional volunteer roles and another 14 serving in episodic roles with the region. Our application rates for all volunteer calls have been very high amongst the highest of all regions. Distributed 1 regional newsletter. Social media (Twitter and Facebook) followers are the highest of any region. We hosted a total of three in person programs and one online program in the first year of the region. Our regional conference had 266 registrants; generated more than $24,000 in revenue to support regional activities, services, and management. We hosted a regional conference expo with 11 vendors present which resulted in great positive feedback from all parties. We implemented new sponsorship packages to regional conference activities which resulted in $7,500 in sponsor dollars. Eight awards (four are named ) and three scholarships were created. This year we had 13 scholarship submissions and 26 award submissions. All were given, except one award. Our scholarship fund raised $5,115 at the regional conference to support future regional scholarships and activities.

3 We have secured the following regional conference sites: o 2015 Philadelphia, PA (Temple University) o 2016 Pittsburgh, PA (University of Pittsburgh) We acquired a regional ceremonial shovel and scissors that we can use to launch our regional artifacts program allowing Region VII to be present for individual campus celebrations such as grand openings and ground breakings. We have developed an on-going online student connection program that will be launched in early Established a short-term partnership with Collegiate Empowerment to co-deliver a student leadership workshop. Regional Director Goals for 2015 and Beyond Recruit new campuses to host regional activities, meetings, and the 2017 regional conference. In particularly campuses in the Central, Western, and Southern parts of the region. Structure the newly designed student involvement coordinator role successfully creating a purposeful experience for the student member of the team. Clarification and improve communication to members regarding recreation and student programs presented by the Association (non-regional activities). Support the 2015 Regional Conference Program Team to host a great second conference that fosters regional traditions from Buffalo, N.Y., and delivers unique conference experiences to this team. Identify if there is a need for new region-specific volunteer roles that serve Regional Leadership Team members effectively. If so, make sure there are designed volunteer descriptions and the relationship to Regional Leadership Team along with volunteer expectations are quickly defined. Distribute a regular and ongoing communication deliverable (format to be determined). Improve international connections within the region (i.e., potential cultural exchange, volunteer roles, membership of Quebec schools). Initiate conversations with corporate partnership and educational program Regional Leadership Team members to develop potential sponsorship opportunities beyond the regional conference. Continue to develop regional identity and pride. Identify ways to provide regional gear that supports regional scholarships, etc. Explore the expansion of regional scholarship offerings and even the possibility of developing an endowed regional scholarship. Identify and create at least one new online learning program that highlights regional needs and/or directly serves region VII. Continue representing regional needs to the ACUI Central Office and the Regional Director Team such as: o Regional Leadership Team structure and alignment of volunteer roles. o Improved direction for inclusivity, student involvement coordinator, and online learning positions. o Member schools interest in student program offerings such as poetry slam and recreation. o Balance the desire for a common structure region to region while advocating for the ability to develop a unique regional identity. o Others as discussed and emerging throughout the year.
