4 COURSE DESCRIPTION nd Annual USC Contemporary Topics in Internal Medicine course is designed especially for internists, family physicians, generalist physicians and allied health of interactive lectures by USC faculty experts spanning a wide array of current and important topics. Lecture presenters use an anonymous electronic response system to allow immediate on case studies and challenging clinical questions in real time. Participants will be able to attain new, practical information and knowledge for integration into their clinical practices to improve patient care and patient outcomes. Furthermore, this program EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to: Apply current ACC/AHA cholesterol treatment guidelines to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events and assess when to condsider use of the new PCSK9 inhibitors. Review recent data suggesting the role of statins in malignancy prevention in patients with chronic liver disease. Discuss pre-operative screening tools to identify patients at risk for pulmonary complications. Assess and treat common dermatologic problems in primary care. nutrients and medications. Review the role of narrative medicine in improving clinical practice and self-care. Distinguish presenting symptoms, clinical evaluations, and apply therapeutic interventions for emerging infections. Recognize the implications of individual patients genetic analyses on the future paradigm of medical care. Appraise future approaches to cervical cancer screening. Apply the latest evidence for dressing and replacing testosterone in men. initiating antiretroviral therapy among patients with HIV and a CD4+ count >500. pylori. Use appropriate advanced imaging for shoulder pain.
