3 1 Purpose This document specifies the rules for referencing Intermec Product Environmental Compliance (PEC) requirements. 2 Scope All Intermec product definition documents. 2.1 Notes in the Electronic Documentation System Any change in the wording of Environmental Compliance Requirements Notes used in the Revision History Documents (RHD) requires 1. Notification of the programmer responsible for Intermec s electronic documentation system 2. Appropriate revision of the Notes generated for the RHD 3 Intermec Corporate Policy 3.1 Purpose Intermec maintains reference documents defining the requirements of Intermec s product environmental compliance programs. These documents are listed as reference documents in Intermec Product Environmental Compliance Requirements. 3.2 Scope These reference documents were created, and will be maintained, for the express purpose of - 1. Serving as consistent and universal environmental compliance requirements references 2. Replacing explicit references to environmental directives, laws and regulations 3. Eliminating the need to revise product related documents when additional or amended environmental directives, laws and regulations are enacted All Intermec product definition documents of all product categories must use a standard Intermec compliance requirements reference unless the subject of such document does not require ANY environmental compliance. No other environmental compliance texts or references are to be used. 3.3 Referencing in Product Definition Documents Implementation Schedule The release date of Revision B is the official effectiveness date of these requirements, with the following provisions: 1. Environmental compliance requirements references in product related documents CREATED ON OR AFTER the effective date must conform to this specification 2. Environmental compliance requirements statements or references in product related documents CREATED PRIOR to the effective date are considered valid and do not have to be revised for the sole purpose of applying this procedure Document Number: Rev B Page 3 of 8

If a product related document must be revised for other reasons, nonconforming environmental compliance requirements statements or references contained in that document should be revised to conform to this specification Product Specifications Find the reference section appropriate for the principal compliance requirements of the product described in the document - Principal Compliance Requirements Standard Compliance required of all part numbers Mixed compliance requirements (compliant and non-compliant) in the same document Customer is Military Customers are Military and civilian See Section titled Standard Reference Modified Standard Reference Military Reference Modified Military Reference Proceed as follows 1. Apply provisions for the selected reference 2. Insert the following heading below the section Agency Approval - a. [#] Environmental Compliance Requirements Where # is the logical next main section number following the section Agency Approvals, at the SAME Outline Level as Agency Approvals 3. Insert selected reference in the paragraph below the above heading 4. Place the following information at the bottom of the section Referenced Forms - Referenced Forms, Documents, and Records: Number and name of the referenced Intermec compliance [Doc #] requirements document Component and Material Specifications, Source Control Drawings, Electrical Assembly Drawings, Product Control Drawings, Packaging Assembly Drawings, ECNs and RHDs Find the reference section appropriate for the principal compliance requirements of the product described in the document - Principal Compliance Requirements Standard Compliance required of all part numbers Mixed compliance requirements (compliant and non-compliant) in the same document Customer is Military Customers are Military and civilian See Section titled Standard Reference Modified Standard Reference Military Reference Modified Military Reference Document Number: Rev B Page 4 of 8

Remove all existing non-authorized references to, or texts of - a. Any environmental directives, laws and regulations b. Environmental compliance parts marking and/or packaging for shipping 2. Insert the following Standard Note for compliance with Intermec environmental compliance requirements: THIS PRODUCT MUST CONFORM TO ALL APPLICABLE INTERMEC ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS DEFINED IN DOC # INTERMEC PRODUCT ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS, MOST CURRENT REVISION. Do not include any other references to, or texts of- 1. Any environmental directives, laws and regulations 2. Environmental compliance parts marking and/or packaging for shipping Modified Standard Reference Application: Documents with mixed compliance requirement content. 1. Remove all existing non-authorized references to, or texts of - a. Any environmental directives, laws and regulations b. Environmental compliance parts marking and/or packaging for shipping 2. Modify the text THIS MATERIAL, PART OR ASSEMBLY of the Standard Note to clearly identify the compliant parts, part groups or assemblies. The remaining text of the Standard Note is to be used unchanged. 3. Insert the modified Standard Note for compliance with Intermec environmental compliance requirements. Environmental compliance parts marking and/or packaging for shipping Find the applicable referencing action: Application Documents of products for which the military customer does NOT require compliance with specific environmental regulations Documents of products for which the military customer DOES require compliance with SPECIFIC environmental regulations Referencing Action Do NOT enclose ANY reference to environmental compliance requirements Instead of the standard reference to , reference specific environmental compliance requirements Example for reference to specific environmental compliance requirements: THIS PRODUCT MUST CONFORM TO ALL APPLICABLE INTERMEC ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS DEFINED IN DOC # INTERMEC ROHS COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS, MOST CURRENT REVISION. Note: This deviation from the standard method of environmental compliance referencing is unavoidable because the supplier(s) of such products typically do not support compliance with environmental regulations outside of the ones required by the military customer. 7 If the environmental requirement is not covered in any of Intermec s PEC requirement documents, then such a document must be constructed, added to and referenced Modified Military Reference Find the applicable referencing action: Application Documents of products for which the military customer does NOT require compliance with specific environmental regulations Documents of products for which the military customer DOES require compliance with SPECIFIC environmental regulations Referencing Action Do NOT enclose ANY reference to environmental compliance requirements Instead of the standard reference to , reference specific environmental compliance requirements Example: THIS PRODUCT MUST CONFORM TO ALL APPLICABLE INTERMEC ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS DEFINED IN DOC # INTERMEC PRODUCT ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS, MOST CURRENT REVISION. THIS INCLUDES THE REQUIREMENT TO CONFORM TO DOC # INTERMEC ROHS COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS. Note: The additional reference is needed because it shows explicitly the requirement to conform to the environmental compliance requirements of the military customer. If the environmental requirement is not covered in any of Intermec s PEC requirement documents, then such a document must be constructed, added to and referenced.
