3 WELCOME TO OUR School Dear Applicant, Thank you for your interest in the role of Class Teacher and Phase Leader at De Beauvoir Primary School. De Beauvoir is a two form entry school and nursery serving a diverse, vibrant and exciting community. It is situated in the west of the borough between Dalston and Shoreditch and has good transport links to all parts of London and Greater London. We want to appoint an excellent and highly motivated teacher to take on the role of a Phase Leader. We are seeking an individual who will be determined to raise attainment and improve outcomes, opportunities and enjoyment for young people and will have a proven track record of accelerating progress at year group or phase group level. The successful applicant will work alongside the Senior Leadership Team and play a critical role in setting the foundations for the children s learning within our school. You will have the support of a committed governing body that will consider your continued professional development as a fundamental obligation. We welcome and encourage visits to the school. For this crucial role we will be looking for the following: Qualification and experience Qualified Teacher Status. Evidence of recent professional development. Evidence of DBS clearance. Four years full time teaching experience. NPQML Leading from the Middle. Experience and skills High level of expertise in teaching and learning including end of phase assessment. A working knowledge of strategies and techniques for raising pupil attainment generally including different groups of pupils such as SEN. Active involvement in the development of school policies. Experience of a range of summative and formative assessment procedures. Experience of allocating and managing a budget. Experience of leading and managing within a school including curriculum leadership. Professional development Active involvement in recent and relevant CPD. Training in leadership and management issues and skills. Planning Knowledge and experience of school development planning. Strategic management skills. Data analysis Experience of target setting. Ability to analyse, interpret and act on test data. Teaching and learning An excellent classroom practitioner able to lead by example. Knowledge and experience of a range of teaching and learning styles which reflect structured sequences of learning to include cross curricular and skills focused learning. 7 class teacher and phase leader S JOB DESCRIPTION The post holder will have a 0.8 class teaching responsibility and and 0.2 non-contact time for PPA and management responsibilities in accordance with the duties listed below. Purpose of the job To carry out the duties of a school teacher as set out in the current School Teacher s Pay and Conditions Document having due regard to the National Curriculum, the school s mission statement, objectives and schemes of work and policies of the Governing Body. In the school, the post holder s key accountability will be for raising the standards of teaching, learning and attainment for all pupils in post holder s Phase Group. To share in the corporate responsibility for the wellbeing and discipline of all pupils. Raising standards of teaching, learning and attainment for all pupils within the post holder s phase group Creating an action plan for the post holder s Phase Group that identifies objectives, outcomes, targeted steps to be taken and to monitor/evaluate as appropriate. Ensuring that pupils within post holder s Phase Group meet and where appropriate exceed the expected rate of progress. Ensuring that all groups of pupils experience an inclusive educational programme that is personalised to their particular needs. Interpreting and analysing data both within the year and at end of year in order to inform practice within the team and to accelerate progress. Liaising with external support agencies and alternative providers. Striving to ensure that the overwhelming majority of parents are very pleased with the quality of provision. Striving to ensure that the partnership between home and school is robust and effective. This document is signed as having been negotiated, agreed and seen by the teacher and headteacher. It will be reviewed annually. Leading teaching and learning Seek to raise the performance profile of staff within the post holder s Phase Group. Carry out Appraisal for Teachers within the post holder s Phase Group. Monitor the quality of teaching and learning and share judgments with staff as appropriate. Identify key professional development needs and provide support for staff where appropriate in order to meet these needs. Model exemplary practice in class and throughout the post holder s Phase Group. Managing and leading the organisation Contribute significantly to the development and implementation of the school ethos, values and vision. Work alongside the senior leadership team to provide accurate self-evaluation of school s strengths and areas of development. Develop, implement and monitor procedures and policies to ensure that the post holder s Phase Group runs smoothly and efficiently. Be proactive in the area of school improvement. Lead and develop staff INSET when appropriate. Be an advocate for best practice in post holder s Phase Group within the Middle Leadership Team. Ensure that experience is providing pupils with the appropriate skills and knowledge to enable them to make at least expected progress throughout their time at school. Maintain a high level of contemporary subject knowledge and be well informed of the implications for best practice. Report to the School Governing Body as appropriate. Teaching Carry out a teaching commitment in line with Teaching Standards. Personal responsibilities To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post in a professional and supportive manner in keeping with the school ethos of respect and consideration. To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post in accordance with the school s Health and Safety Policy and relevant Health and Safety Guidance and Legislation.
