2 Welcome Dear Parents and Carers, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to you and your child from everyone at All Saints CE Primary School. We pride ourselves on being a caring school that strives to ensure that all our pupils are happy, supported and successful learners. Our Christian Values of Caring, Friendship and Respect are promoted across the school community and act as the basis of all our learning. Our fourth value, Achievement, makes clear that our expectations are high and, with the help, support and involvement of our parents, our pupils make good progress and have the best possible start to their education. 3 Our School All Saints CE Primary School is a one form entry Church of England school for children aged 4 to 11. We have places for 30 children in each year group. In a fantastic location close to woodlands, nature reserves and spectacular beaches, the school has spacious, bright classrooms, an ICT suite supported with wireless technology, a full size Hall and a well resourced library. The school has extensive grounds with a well marked playground, spacious play areas, an amphitheatre and a large sports field. We have raised beds for growing flowers and vegetables, which our Friends help maintain. All Saints has excellent links with Freshwater Early Years Centre, an outstanding pre-school located within the school grounds. This greatly supports transition of these pupils into our school and our own Early Years provision was also judged Outstanding in March At the end of Year 6, our children transfer to a range of secondary schools, all of whom we have close partnerships with. The governors and staff at All Saints are dedicated, caring and hardworking people. We know and value every child in our school. Our aim is to ensure that each child achieves their best through high quality teaching and support. We are proud that our results are continuing to improve and our Early Years results well above national average three years in a row. As a Christian school, we encourage our pupils to learn and play together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and friendship. We welcome those of all other faiths and of no particular faith. 4 Our Curriculum At All Saints we pride ourselves on an exciting, creative curriculum with an interactive, hands-on approach to teaching and learning. Children in the Reception Class follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. There is a strong emphasis on developing children s knowledge, confidence and social skills through a play-based approach to learning, which is judged to be an outstanding aspect of the school. In Key Stages 1 and 2, children are provided with a curriculum that is carefully planned to meet the needs of individuals. English and Maths have a very high profile as core subjects, plus Science and ICT. We teach some foundation subjects separately, such as PE, RE and French (in Key Stage 2), while others are taught through cross-curricular topics. These are carefully planned to engage, inspire and motivate all children and are aligned to the new National Curriculum expectations. They include a wide range of educational visits. Our teachers plan for a range of groups and abilities within all subjects. Our approach to teaching is varied, includes individual and group work as well as whole class teaching. We have an experienced team of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) who work with groups of children and support teachers in the delivery of the curriculum. We also employ a Behaviour Support Assistant, who works with children in small groups or on a 1:1 basis across the school and runs our Nurture Group provision. Our curriculum is also designed to ensure that there are plenty of opportunities to develop children s personal, social and emotional skills. We encourage our pupils to treat others with care, respect and consideration and we always praise and reward good behaviour. Through our unique Champion Leaners programme, we promote a positive I can attitude in everything that we do and teach the skills that enable our children to become confident, independent learners. 4

5 Our Christian Values Our school was founded by the Church in Christian values underpin our work. Our vision statement encapsulates what we stand for: A Christian school providing opportunities for all to achieve and succeed. Our values permeate the whole school. We seek to be a school which lives the values as everyday behaviour and attitudes. The school community seeks to be as a Christian family; caring, protecting respecting and valuing each other, creating opportunities for pupils to grow in their own faith and respecting and understanding other faiths and ways of life as well. We have chosen 3 Christian values which we feel encapsulate this; Our local vicar, Rev. Mark Whatson, visits regularly. Other members of the local clergy also lead whole school worship. We make regular visits to our local church, All Saints, for services throughout the Christian calendar, including Harvest, Christmas, Easter and for our annual Leavers Service. We also have foundation governors who are appointed by the Church of England. RESPECT CARING FRIENDSHIP Our last Church School inspection took place in April 2015 and we achieved Good outcomes in all areas. All Saints Primary School is A Christian school where all have the opportunity to achieve and succeed and that vision is at the heart of the school. The school has a very welcoming, caring ethos driven by the school s explicit Christian values. 5

6 Your Child s Progress Our fourth core value is Achievement; we strive to ensure all children make the best possible progress regardless of their different staring points and needs. Teachers make assessments about children s progress all the time as part of their planning for learning. Some assessments are informal and a natural part of the lesson. Sometimes the children take more formal tests. Together, this information help us to; ensure all children make appropriate progress; ACHIEVEMENT put in extra support for any child who is not doing as well as they should; ensure able children are stretched and challenged. Children s skills and knowledge are assessed towards the end of their Reception year and these assessments are used to complete their Early Years Foundation Stage Profile. I am extremely happy with my son s progress and the associated support he has at school. Please keep it up." Parents Survey Children s progress and learning targets are shared with parents and carers three times a year at consultation meetings and in their end of year report. However, parents and carers are encouraged to contact their child s teacher at any time to discuss their child s achievements, or if they have any concerns. Results of national tests are reported to each child s parent/carer and are published on the school website. We are assessing without levels following the latest government guidance. At the end of each year, your child s report will indicate if they are working below, towards, at, or above Age Related Expectations in Reading, Writing and Maths. This is a swiftly improving school. Disadvantaged children make good progress. OFSTED

7 Supporting Individual Children Inclusion and Special Educational Needs We provide a fully inclusive education for all children. We work with parents and carers to identify any child s special educational needs as early as possible. Class teachers work closely with Learning Support and Special Needs Assistants to ensure that lessons are accessible to children with learning difficulties and disabilities. Pupil Premium The school receives Pupil Premium funding to support children that are disadvantaged. This money enables us to fund members of staff to work with children one-to-one and in small groups; to run play therapy sessions; to pay for additional training and resources; and to pay for Educational Psychologist assessments. Child protection and safeguarding The school has a legal responsibility to work with other statutory agencies to ensure that our pupils are safe and secure. If there are any concerns over pupils health, safety and welfare, the school will do all it can to work in partnership and in the best interests of the child. Enrichment We are also proactive in identifying more able and talented pupils. All areas of the curriculum are differentiated to ensure pupils are challenged appropriately in every lesson, every day. We work with other schools and providers to provide enrichment activities to extend learners and give them the opportunity to work with subject specialists and in other educational settings. The school s work to keep pupils safe and free from harm is outstanding. Pupils say they are very well looked after and parents agree. OFSTED

8 Beyond the Classroom A key feature of our school is the wide range of activities we offer our children to enrich the curriculum. We encourage visitors to come to school to work with our children, talk about their experiences and increase pupils knowledge of the wider world. Regular performances and workshops led by authors, artists, dance specialists, theatre groups and musicians promote a creative, interactive and multi-cultural approach to learning. Pupils gain a great deal from educational visits and we plan a variety of these depending on the age of the pupils and topics being studied. Children in upper Key Stage 2 have the opportunity to go on a short residential visit focusing on outdoor and environmental activities. We offer children the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument, providing access to specialist music tuition. We actively encourage children to take part in sports activities for both enjoyment and competition. Our children receive the statutory two hours of quality sports activity every week. We are well resourced with specialist equipment and a large hall and field. All children benefit from lessons or clubs led by specialist sports teachers and coaches. We have the added advantage of access to the facilities at our local Sports Centre and use their pool for our swimming lessons in every year group. We were pleased to achieve the national Bronze Award for School Games in 2014, 2015 and After-school clubs run throughout the year. The clubs are in mixed age and mixed ability groups. Recent clubs have included athletics, cricket, choir, cheerleading, gymnastics, art, ICT and gardening. A Holiday Bible Club is run on site by the local church. 8

9 Working in Partnership Positive behaviour and attitudes We teach the importance of valuing everyone as an individual. We expect every member of our school community to show respect and care for each other and for their environment. We aim to create a caring ethos at playtimes so children feel safe and happy. We have a selection of activities and equipment to help children develop skills of cooperation and collaboration. Children are encouraged to take responsibility for each other and to look out for and include lonely children, take care of equipment and instigate and supervise games. We pride ourselves on our high standards of pupils behaviour and positive attitudes displayed by our children in all areas. In 2015, OFSTED judged behaviour as Good. Parental involvement Hearing your child read, discussing their day and supporting them to find a time and space for home learning is key to their success. In this way, parents and carers are able to support their children s learning outside of school and become active partners in their education. We are also happy to talk you though which methods and techniques we use as we know things may be different to when you were a pupil! Parents and carers are welcomed in to school on a regular basis through open days, information evenings, family assemblies, religious celebrations, special lunches, sporting events and productions. We know that children achieve more when their parents and carers are kept informed and we send home fortnightly Newsletters. Information is also shared through our website. Many parents and governors are also volunteers. Pupils enjoy school and behave well. OFSTED

10 A Community School Friends of All Saints Primary Our school has an active and hard-working Friends Association (FOASP) who organise regular social and fundraising events. All our parents and carers automatically become members of FOASP and any offers of help will be enthusiastically received. All Saints has a continuing programme of learning opportunities, providing adult access to parenting classes and support, ICT facilities and opportunities to learn alongside children.
